I highly dig that! :D
I really don't like seeing the screen. The reason you see so many screens in the PT is because Lucas now thinks we're all so stupid that we have to be shown everything or we won't get it. He made the PT for 5 year olds.
We learn everything we need to from what Han tells Leia in that scene. There's no need to cut to something new when the scene is between the characters. Despite what Lucas think, CG is not a character.
Call me a frickin' 5 year old then.

Disagree all you want, there just has to be a point where you realize that you've made your case and there's nothing more you can do as far as convincing Adywan to change his mind goes.
If you're still unhappy with it, you can make your own edit. Honestly, it's as simple as that. Adywan has said repeatedly that he's not going to do this, and that's his decision. Whether you agree with it or not, you should respect that, and not whine and bitch that you're not getting your way.

Ideas and alternatives can go on until infinity. Why not make an option in SW:Revisited to have Luke be in blue squadron and to have blue stripes on his X-Wing? It fits with the novel better this way, and would be a cool idea. As an alternative option of course. Another cool alternative option would be to replace the Rancor keeper with a lion tamer, complete with red outfit and bullwhip.
I like that alternative option of cloud city being a spinning top (seamless branching) if it can be done ;-P
And vaderios, can you do a mock up picture of that Pleeessseee!
Doubleofive I must say your new avatar has succesfully reinvented itself to show the new take on secret agents...hehehehe. way cool.
On Bespin....I say take away the merry-go-round-ish thing...it looks silly... it could have been a gas mine or a glorified Vegas for that matter, the thing is move the story to "neutral location" where they don't suspect to be jumped by Vader.
DuTwan said:Though the millenium falcon does have hologramatic displays for a game like chess, does that mean it has to have a hologram of bespin etc. Even TPM only had display screen, remember Obi Wan checkin out Tatooine?
Oh, I agree that it's kind of out of place, but this is Han Solo, the man who would modify the heck out of any scrap to fit to his likings. The scene is fine the way it is now, but if it was included, it wouldn't be too far-fetched that Han would have something like that in a ship he loves so much.

Vaderios: I say go crazy with that golden bikini Leia! hahahaha ;)
C3-PX: I sense callousness in you.
Back to merry-go-rounds outside Bespin......

It's not that we're all supporting things just because Ady says that's the way it will be; we're moving on because that's the way he said it will be. "Yes-men" typically work for those who won't hear other opinions, while Ady has proven time and time again that he does care what we think. What he doesn't care for is people harping on the same thing over and over again.
I love Davnes' hologram. I really do and I think that something like it would be great in the movie, even if it is unnecessary. Does it belong in Revisited? Apparently not. But anyone can work with Davnes to help him finish it up and people can insert into their own versions. It's a fan edit we're complaining about here. Ady has no more power than any of us to change the movie, he just already has his name out there.
Like others have said before me (including Adywan and Davnes), its time to move on everybody.
OFF TOPIC: Thanks for the kind remarks about my new avatar. I made it a while back and completely forgot about it until this morning. :-D

Sometimes it's good to take a step back and realize how far the fan edits have come in a few short years.
Seriously, I never thought we'd see half of the changes fans are doing this soon.
So celebrate and enjoy it all.
It will only get better.
Well I tried to change the subject 2 pages ago, but it went totally unnoticed among the holo debate :D

well to be honest Sevb32, that's exactly the age you seem to be acting over this damn display issue. And saying that you should become a yes man because people have actually respected my decision not to do anything to that scene, yet you still have to constantly go on about it and throw your toys out of the pram, just portrays a childish behaviour even more. I don't want to surround myself with yes-men and if i didn't want to take suggestions and criticisms then i would never have started the revisited threads in the first place. my mind has been changed about ideas several times but at least the majority of the members have enough about them to respect me when i say that my decision i final whether they like it or not.
this kind of petty stuff just clogs up the thread and can cause me to miss some posts because i get fed up of hearing the same things over and over again. From now on dicks will be put on my ignore list so i can concentrate on the important discussions going on in here (which i would say 99% always is).
Just please have a bit of maturity and let it rest. anyone that goes on the ignore list also goes from the credits. But this won't happen for just any small thing so don't worry about that.
Sumatra was 100% correct when he described the PT having to show everything to explain what's going on and i have said this myself. The PT talked down to its audience, alienating most fans older than pre-teen, but this is a discussion for another thread in a few years. lol
Jeyl said:I'd be much happier living with the holo display than the redone Rebel Transport that escapes from Hoth. That has all sorts of 'focus distracting' elements thrown into it that I'm surprised we even saw the Ion bolts at all.
ok well i'm going to reply to this one.
lets break it down shall we between the two scenes....
Hoth escpae.
the rebel transport and two x-wings escape from the planet, head directly towards a stardestroyer that just sits there and practically waits to get blasted so the rebels can escape. Now , adding a few lasers coming from the stardestroyer and having one of the xwings destroyed makes perfect sense and boosts the peril that the rebels are in. it isn't "focus distracting" as you say because there was no single focus in that scene.
Millennium Falcon holo /cutaway display.
Han and Leia in the falcons cockpit figuring out what their next move is. they are viewing an out of shot display as han scans through navigation charts and picks out bespin. here all we need to know is in the conversation and the focus should be on the interaction between Han and Leia.
Adding a cut away shot of the display - this splits the scene up and does ruin its flow. Plus there is no shots of the display at high enough res for this to work for a 720p release
Adding a holo diplay in front of the characters - your focus is taken away from the two main characters interaction. Viewers will pay more attention to what is being displayed than what they should be focusing on. And the arguments that it doesn't distract just doesn't ring true. if it isn't distracting then you aren't looking at the display which means it proves it doesn't need to be there in the first place.
now i can't explain all that any more clearer than i have so can that be the end of it now please.
please keep the suggestions, photo and video mock-ups coming. i'm not stubborn headed and do listen and look at ever one. for instance just recently it was suggested that when Luke approaches Bespin that it should be later in the day because the sun is setting shortly after. Now i had spent 5 days working on the new moving matte shot of Luke's approach and had just finished it and i loved it until i saw this suggestion. i've now gone back and had to change most of the elements and start from scratch because i like this idea. luckily i could reuse all the tracking work i had originally done and have now completed it (minus the xwing which needs to have a new element added) but the finished shot is 1000% better than it originally was.
Always good news Adyman!

The mock up image of Cloud City as a top is already there, jump back of few pages. It's lovely isn't it? Makes me long for a version of ESB that I doubt I shall ever see... sigh.

I respect Adywan's decision on the Falcon display, and I could go either way on the issue.
But I'd like to point out that in ANH (non-adywan version), we get a pretty pointless display of the gunner station screens during the Tie fighter attack. In ROTJ, we get to see the screens with text on them as Vader's shuttle approaches the DS II.
Granted, ESB has the best acting in the entire trilogy (and saga, needless to say). So it would be a shame to lose any of that great acting.
But I'm sure, if Adywan wanted to, he could find a way to include a shot of the Falcon's screen (he could always BUILD a panel), and just lengethen the scene, so that we don't lose any footage of the actors.
You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

Wow, how 'bout that?! Any chance we could see the original scene somehow? If not now, then maybe as a DVD extra? Or in a making-of documentary-type situation? :)

Ah, gotcha. Since you said that right after commenting on the top, I thought that is what you were talking about.

See? Good things that improve the overall film can come out of the last 100 or so pages of this thread! :P

Thats all I was really trying to do. All the time I see mockups being done here, and I LOVE seeing new ideas, or new spins on existing ideas. And honestly, even pre-97 SE I was always curious about what the Falcon's monitor looked like, so seeing a mockup of what it would be like has always been something I wanted to see.
So, being inspired by the various mockups in this thread and others, I took the opportunity and time to take a shot at doing one of my own. However I ended up going back to it and trying to make it better, hence the 4 attempts at trying to get my idea visualized.
Did I expect Ady to fall in love with it? No, not really. But if he had ended up liking it, that would have been cool. If not Ady, I figure maybe another editor may be inspired by it later on. I'm not doing my own fan edit, I just wanted to SHARE an idea with the fan community.
I didn't think a big debate would happen cause of it, with a bit of anger going back and forth. That was not my intention. I just wanted to see if I could do a mockup at all. I'm somewhat new to editing programs, and I think its a fun profession.
So, apologies to everyone for my part in this. I just wanted to show what I imagined the monitor might be like.
Okay, now that I got that out of my system, topic dropped.
