Adywan, just watched the Colour Corrected AVCHD Empire Strikes Back. Awesome work mate. It looks so good now some things i've never noticed are going to show up. First of all, during the reveal of Luke hanging upside down in the Wampa cave, just as the camera finishes panning, in the top left corner behind an icy stalactite there is a vertical flicker of light which happens 2 or 3 times. It's pretty annoying. Any chance you'll clean this up for Revisited?

Going by the lack of 'engine glow', It seems that Adywan's present intention is to replicate the 'cloud-car' coming away from the city towards us, as it was in the GOUT. And I think this shows the GOUT element at the moment.   I reckon it would work just as well even if he decided to have one heading towards the city in this shot though,  as it would STILL juxtapose nicely with Luke's receding X-wing in the previous shot, and especially well with the receding 'cloud-car' of the new 'city fly-through' that follows this.  I'll love it either way.

 

sketchrob and vaderios, interesting that you look on the SE shot that way.  The perspective of the 'refinarery' has always seemed fine in the foreground for me personally, as the higher, distant city itself seems to be such a huge structure, and such an indeterminate distance away, that it's quite hard to tell if the perspective is off.  Although I didn't care for the removal of a 'cloud-car' in the shot, I wasn't distracted by the perspective issue.  It seems it's not going to be in the shot at this point anyway, but I'm not against it being included anymore, after seeing Sevb32's mock-up.  Having looked at the current movement of the SE shot and it's clouds, the new shot will be terrific in 'motion' I'm sure.

 

Davnes007, thanks very much for sticking that 'menu' shot up for me! Nice one.   Although the colouring doesn't match the existing footage, I was keen to see the detail on it.

Alright, here's my weekly comparison of the weekly preview:

I think with the right CG flyby, this shot will be perfect.  And I'm glad there's all-new real clouds, because once I noticed that the original matte was a flip shot of this:

I couldn't look at it the same way.

At least they recomposited the City so its not the EXACT same shot.  You have to give them that.

why the hell should i make it look better composited when i have said i prefer the way the shot was originally in the OUT?

as sketchrob pointed out making the refinery smaller and placing it lower in the frame, where it would need to go if it were to be include, throws out the whole perspective. In fact the perspective was out in the SE. i can't recomposite something that has a portion of it missing due to a badly composited blend into the clouds. The refinery is gone and will not return.

Nice shot.  So you brightened everything, flipped the City, moved it up, and added some more clouds above it.  You also moved the Car back and reversed it so it is coming from the City instead of flying around it.

Question: Should Cloud City cast a shadow on the clouds when seen from a particular angle?  Something to think about.

no it shouldn't . as you will see when the shot is moving the foreground clouds are quite a distance from the city. its hard to explain really so you'll just have to wait for the trailer to see what i mean. lol

In all the shots?  Of course, you can just make it so no clouds are near the city, like it projects some kind of Cloud Avoidence Field so that people wouldn't be constantly walking on balconies with knee-high railings in a thick layer of fog.  LOL

well i finally finished all the wampa cave shots today (minus the wampa of course). i've managed to fix the continuity errors of Luke's legs being spread apart one minute then together the next and the lightsabre is now partially buried to match the shots when he uses the force to retrieve it. again one minute its fully on show then the next shot its half buried.

Nice to hear about the progress on the Wampa cave scene. Were those errors hard to fix? I know you've done leg position fixes before, but I imagine some are much trickier than others.

I think the Cloud-Car flyby and leaving in the gas refinery would be ideal. It only makes sense that the refinery would be there, it is a Tibanna gas mine after all.

i have stated all the reasons why it won't be included, as have others. i'm not going to comment on this subject any more.

Ah, great!

I was wondering, what 'style' of Force Ghost is appearing in the 'Revisited' saga? In ROTJ, the force ghosts that appear there (Obi-Wan on Dagobah, Yoda, Obi-Wan and Anakin on Endor) are all quite consistent; overall blue glow/hue, a shimmering frame, and transparrent.

But in ESB, the Force Ghost design seemed inconsistent - on Hoth, Obi-Wan looked practically like his living self, but slightly transparrent, while on Endor he had a thick blue glowing line around his frame (similar to the blue atmosphere line around the planets).

I personally always thought that the ROTJ Force Ghost appearance was the definitive one - it was certainly the most consistent, and the most ghost-like to my eyes, as well.

How about seeing the gas mine in one of the other cloud city shots? Even smaller would be cool.
