That causes the question. Some other ships deserve a 3d duplicate in ESB:R? :)

My point is consistency.  Go one way or the other - touch-screens and holograms are fine as long as you don't go from that to a Boeing 737 cockpit in the same series.  It just doesn't make sense.  We need consistency between the two, and I think most people here prefer the look of the OT controls to the PT.  To paraphrase Ady himself, "The PT should be changed to match the OT, not the other way around."

Are we still arguing about the addition of holograms? If i remember correctly Adywan added some Holograms in ANH:R too, right? And of course it had nothing to do with 'making the OT more like the PT'. They were just appropriate in the scene. So guys, please drop the PT arguments in this case.

The consistency argument is a good one btw. Because we never see something like this (besides the holo chess) in the Falcon before. So yeah.  This is propably the only issue I can see.

But the point still remains: Holo tech is quite common place, and they propably wouldn't show it off "because its cool". They would only use it when they need it.

I'm not all against holograms, myself. But the Death Star plans were shown on a screen in ANH and ANH:R alike (although updated), so the way I see it, is that the OT has both holograms and displays, while leaning more toward displays, while the PT has both (as seen in TPM mostly) while leaning more toward holograms.

With that logic, I suppose it could go either way if someone decided to insert this idea into the Falcon GPS scene. I just prefer the idea of a display since the OT leans towards displays more, whether or not it feels outdated or not. And I still stand by my belief that a 2-3 second cutaway is less distracting than a hologram being shown throughout the entire scene.

And besides, the monitor screen is seen in every shot of the dashboard throughout the OT (though turned off). So it has to serve a purpose right? Having a hologram kinda makes that monitor seem like its there for nothing.

Okay, my 3rd, and probably last attempt at trying to get this to look right. I think each time is a little better at least, though a better image of the dashboard is still sorely lacking.

Ady, I have Maya, and can animate ships. If i could get a hold of a model thats maya friendly I could see what I could do.

It doesn't look like any are Maya friendly, but here is the link to the models over at SCI-FI3D

Why is the refinery hated? It was an original McQuarrie design, NOT something just cooked up for the SE.  It was something McQuarrie drew at the time of the OT.

^Who said it was hated? Lots here like it. I seem to remember Ady saying he liked it, too. Or at least sort of liked it.

In Post 8642 Ady says he's always hated it. Why? I don't know.

I never liked it just because when I first saw the SE it just seemed like it was thrown in there as an afterthought.  Plus it just looks ... strange ... it doesn't really fit with the Cloud City aesthetic, I guess.  I dunno.

And just because it's a McQuarrie design doesn't mean it's good - there are plenty of McQuarrie designs that I'm glad were left out of the movies.

i hated it because it looked so out of place in that shot. its so badly composited and the original pod car was so much better. It always stuck out like a sore thumb to me.

My mistake. Maybe I was thinking of someone else. :p Thanks for clarifying. (Edit: I see Adywan has replied now, too.)

Well, I kinda like the design of it, but I don't like the way that it pulls the eye away from Cloud City, which is where the focus should be. That was one SE element that I thought was kinda neat, but not so much the way it was implemented.

I really liked seeing the long 'stem' in this shot previously (which was a really great design element of the floating city), which has now been obscured by some of the new cloud pattern.

I have to agree. The long stem is iconic of Cloud City in my mind. Maybe the cloud movement will reveal more of it. I hope so, at least.

Then why didn't you try making it look "BETTER COMPOSITED" with all your skills? Why can't both the cloud car and the floating gas mine be there? I can focus on more  than one thing in a shot, as long as Cloud City itself looks bigger in the shot, perhaps making the mine smaller or more in the distance?

This is kinda funny, ask for screenshots since we wont get clips till the trialer comes out, and once we do we need clips to see how the shots will work in motion lol

Adywan, I remember requesting long ago that you consider replacing the SE shot with something that was 'reminiscent' of the original 'cloud-car' shot.

Personally, I was always more than happy to have a 're-used', or 'flipped' existing 'cloud-car' element placed into any new shot you came up with, if it meant getting a bit of faster 'movement' back into the shot again, as well as getting that 'engine roar' sound effect back too.  So I didn't expect it to necessarily be a reproduction of the GOUT version coming directly towards us.  In fact, I thought it was likely that one of the existing RECEDING 'cloud-car' elements would be used, which would have looked good too, I guess.

By the way, can anyone show a shot of the the one that flies in 'close-up' to us on one of the SE 'menu' screens, when you press 'play' on the 'Millennium Falcon landing' one?  I always wanted a good look at it, but it goes by so fast.

Anyway, these are one SE addition that I thought turned out well, so I wish Husker the best in matching the standard of them.

I REALLY like your mock-up there Sevb32, considering I always disliked the 'silent refinery' SE shot.  I guess knowing that the 'cloud-car' is back, makes everything okay for me.  The best of both worlds then.  Looks good.

The frames of the Cloud Car being any closer are too blurry to enjoy.

I made the gas mine refinery even smaller so it could still be there but to not take away from the city.

Hello All,

It has been awhile since I posted. I am just reading the "Secret History of Star Wars" book. If you haven't read it... read it. It is very fascinating.

Anyways, Has Ady mentioned what he is doing with the incestuous kiss between Luke and Leia? Lucas would never have written this if Leia was always supposed to be Luke's sister.

I appologise if it has been talked about already. I am lazy and don't feel like looking through 347 pages of info for it.

Not this again... it's JUST A KISS

There's nothing "incestuous" about a kiss, unless you equal kissing to having sex...

Ady will be keeping it (as far as I remember anyway)

Problem with that mock-up is you would still need to rebuild the mining platform cause the perspective is way off...
