Adding any sort of display is getting too close to PT territory (where every detail seems to have to either be explained or shown) for me. Its obvious they are looking at the display but do we need to see it? i say not. The focus is supposed to be on the interaction between Han & Leia. Adding a display of any kind for this scene would be a case of "adding it just because you can".
Oh Ady... pleaasse reconsider. I love the mock-up. It works so great, with the reflection on their faces, etc.
And about the Falcon=Junk argument: Holograms seem to be a very common tech in the SW universe. I dont have to remind you that they are playing frakking holographic chess (!!!) one movie earlier. It's not unreasonable to assume that the Falcon has a system for this (consider the improvements for smuggling, if you have a 3d display ;) ...And you could also have it flicker a little to make it a bit more 'vintage'.
Also: Please, dont be unfair and compare such an idea to the mess that the is the PT. This has nothing to do with the PT and enriches the scene IMHO. Its not like "Hey lets add another pointless special effect to make it look cooler". It shows us what they are looking at, without needing to cut away and gives a very natural feel to their interaction. It's like it has always been there, just invisible. I know it's propably difficult to convince you, just wanted to point that out.
PS: I am all against a cutaway! A cutaway would definetly destroy this scene, but the hologram works beautifully.
