I guess another good example would be how the Eastern Roman Empire cut off the Western half when it became apparent that the Nordic hordes were tearing it apart.  Rather than waste any more resources trying to garner it back, the Eastern Empire (with Constantinople as the capital) "cut their losses" and just let the vandals wipe out the Western half.

If the Republic was in much the same shape and Naboo was essentially in the "western half" of the Republic, would it be that much of a stretch to copy a page out of history and have the same thing happen (or as you, shanerjedi, suggest, adding in an element such as gold, oil, the "spice", cheap plastic toys, etc for the (trade) federation to want to take)?

If Naboo was renamed Alderaan to could further reflect the "sacking of Rome (the old capital)" whilst the new capital, Coruscant (Constantinople) remained the source of power of what was left of the old Republic/Empire.

Again, this is not a thing that HAS to be done, so much as if you are going to go this route, here is how you can do it.

Are you saying Naboo should be Alderaan?

Naboo is close environmentally-speaking to what Alderaan was to look like as depicted in McQuarrie's paintings and so on. But architecturally, it's very different. I'm not saying that's wrong, just different than what McQuarrie depicted.

As far aa a Naboo "secret". I was thinking the federation uses something more obvious like trading or riches as a ruse, when their real intent is to get ahold of that secret on behalf of the Sith. Of course, the "ruse" would be the reward for th neimoidians, but it would be something "trivial" like riches. The secret would be something more sinister.

Another idea, during Anakin and Palpatine's talk at the bubble-opera, how about the bubbles are replaced with giant, holographic figures?

They could even be used to reflect their conversation somewhat, with a hooded, red hologram Sith in conflict with a blue, Jedi hologram. Somehow, I think a hologram opera would make a little more sense than...whatever it was that was going on originally.

Just put together one of my ideas. I am not good at editing so do not judge me on that. There is stiff competition in this forum.

I thought new dialouge would make Count Dooku actually sound like a villain.

WOW! i cant believe how well those lines meshed together!

 

maybe he could announce some of them before the execution too? or perhaps just before the droids show up? the 'new power is risng bit was great, but 'to war' was a bit rushed. anyhow, it was such a cool mix of the two films!

 

now im thinking of what other Christopher lee-isms would fit.....

It's a good idea and those lines do work really well. BUT... everyone would automatically be like "Heeeeeey, thats from LOTR!!"

How about a closer feel to OT with removing many of the "revealing" elements of PT and dirty up a bit the cockpits?

See the comparison.

I took obvious pieces from x-wing, and zoomed the camera to match with the OT.

I see that now looks less Star wars-y ( more like an other scifi movie). I could add a black screen instead but i think is good to keep a balance between the two sagas.

I always thought christopher lee was scary enough. He was almost as good as dracula as gary oldman (shame the one with oldman had Keanu Reeves who sounded like he was stoned and then Wynona Ryder's clepto ass) Ahhhh it is a shame though Anthony Hopkins added another point to the good actor side of the cast.

^Yes, I agree. A good balance between older and newer. :)

I hadn't really been following this thread (just sort of...forgot! :p), but i've just had a quick look throuhg every page and WOW, I love all the mock-ups! Those ones vaderios did with TPM are stunning! It's almost like a different movie, as someone mentioned, even just doing a color change. Love Bingowing's stuff as usual, too.

That gun metal Grievous was really cool! :) The Maul/Grievous thing was interesting, to say the least. I like the idea of a black version, too.

Harry did a contest for the folks at AintItCool.com where someone could win a ShowWest ROTS sculpture if they could "re-write" the end duel between Anakin and Obi-Wan in a better way.  There are some really interesting ideas here.

great aging on cockpits vaderios. Actually gives them a sense of history and weight and makes them look less like mockups of cockpits for a film.

Coppola's Dracula was an obscene joke, to have the nerve to stick Stoker's name to that silly film (all be it with some nice bits) was the final nail in the coffin of his reputation. Hopkins was terrible, he acted like he was suffering from concussion, shame really because if you stuck a white handle bar moustache on him he could have been a not bad Dracula. Oldman tried his best with a terrible script (at least he got the accent right but he wasn't Dracula.

The let down of being promised a faithful adaptation of the very filmable novel only to watch that hideous concoction was worse than TPM.

how about jabba the hutt as a seperatist leader?

 

[assuming that the Hutt relationship to the galaxy is editted in TPM somehow (maybe theyre part of the federation, or better, the seperatists are in TPM)]

speaking of jedi starfighters, is there any way Obi's ship could be redesigned into something more, I dunno, DUNEish?  Or at least something more substantial than a space mini cooper?

In fact, would it be conceivable to have the Jedi starship cockpits lacking controls of ANY kind, short of a flight stick?  The impression I got since ANH was that the Jedi were tech-light - turn off the range finder and make your best (force inspired) guess....

whatever the design, it would be good to maybe see it implemented in both AOTC and ROTS, and maybe even TPM. the  PT kind of lacked consistent iconic ships, apart from the cool naboo chrome thing.

 

sounds silly, but id love it if the jedi, or someone, used the MF as a consistent ship somehow. it cold be cleaner and fancier, maybe with alternative plating, but it could give an alternative reaction in ANH when we think 'omg, that thing is still around!'

 

any thoughts to Jabba the Seperatist? it could make a nice PT-ROTJ link.

I have to say the jabba as a separatist idea could be cool, but how would you have him escape the execution in RotS?

maybe have El Sid contact him with a Job to do so he can get gone before vader arrives,

& on a "bringing it full circle" note, luke would finish off what his daddy started!

in fact why not take the Jabba/Han scene from ANH get rid of the Han Chewwie & the Falcon & put in Mustafar. Have him talking to Gunray (I think there is a clip of him walking more or less in the same way somewhere in ep 1) telling him & his kind where to shove it, & warning the separatists that if he ever sees any of them near his territory he will put a price on their heads so big that they will never be able to go near a civilized system ever again.

what do ye think is that doable?

i guess none of the PT elements are fixed really, so maybe not all the leaders would be executed. i was imagining that jabba would be an investor as oppose to a warlord. it would be good if he is in most of the scenes as a background character, and maybe even making the odd speech.

 

im not sure if the ANH footage would be worth the hassle, as its not that brilliant anyway. maybe a new CG jabba or a puppet would work?
