I always thought B-movies were movies that were cheesy and made kids. Following strict logic and laws of physics weren't what the movie were about. Like power rangers or spider-man. After looking up B-movies, I guess this isn't an accurate description of "B-movies". But even George Lucas said star wars "are just b-movies" and that was his excuse for a lot of the arguments with people who questioned his descisions making the movies.

Did you just call Spider-Man a b-movie?

Huh, that is odd Lucas would call them B-movies. What time frame was this statement made? Before or after the prequels?

B-movies were the training wheels for film makers and actors. They were extremely low budget. A lot of them depicted silly sci-fi events, and were therefore targeted at kids. Today's equal of the B-movie would probably be the sci-fi channel original movie, or other made for TV movies.

George was influenced by B-movies and sci-fi serials when making Star Wars, so I imagine that is what he meant. Nothing wrong with that, B-movies do have a bit of a charm to them, which is what George was going for (and succeeded) with Star Wars. And you might even be able to shove the first Star Wars film into the B-Movie category, but the other five films are anything but.
