Talking to a pal of mine who's a drum-circle playing hippie type amature music producer brought me to this idea.

Do you suppose the happy "Endor Battle" song, or "Yub Nub" might be more palatable if they were brought down a notch in pitch, and accompanied by a slightly more serious, tribal style drum track? Not like a techo-remix or anything, but just an occasional drum flourish.

My pal is slightly unreliable, but he was going to attempt it with the Endor Battle music. If he does it, I'll post it.

Perhaps the original ending music would be more palatable if any allusion to it being an Ewok tune was removed.

During the celebration the Ewoks could play a very basic tribal tune with no vocal (but the same rhythmic structure) and then the orchestra and the choir could fade in.

One of the problems with the "Yub Nub" song (especially the film version which is very different from the album version) is the attempt at poetic beauty backfires into comedy.

What is attempted was to have the Ewoks sing their celebration song and the orchestra and choir (presumably representing the Galaxy and the audience take over) but it comes across as the Ewoks suddenly developing amazing choral skills (the Ewoks become Welsh).

If the Ewok singing was removed that effect might come across better but it would need someone skilled in music editing to try it.

7)Get rid of Vader's dialogue " No I will deal with them myself." Just have him stop at "No".

I would even remove "No". We don't need to know what Vader is thinking at this point. We, as the audience, should be wondering (just as Luke is) what Vader is thinking. We then find out that he goes to the emperor to tell him whats going on.

I was thinking about the Sail Barge explosion and how it could be made to look more like a maritme disaster.

Here's the bang we know so well :

Barge Boom 1

But it might look more Titanic if the loss of power and the force of the explosion made it tip up into the pit (a bit like a sinking ship):

Barge Boom 2

I tried to do a mock up of it snapping in half but I can't find enough photographic material to pull it off.

Ahhh angel I too get kinda tired of constant star wars. I am a huge fan but I dont need to bleed it out. It is almost like some music. I'll listen to one single song a whole week then I will hate it. Star Wars is kinda the same. Yesterday I tried to watch ROTJ but I got kinda sick lol. I kept pointing out shit that needed fixing. I did however watch the OUT on my pc and I added the invert colors filter to it and I found alot of stuff I had never seen before. Their were stars all over the place that were hidden. I know something that could make Jar Jar Binks more awesome. Give him a more Jamaican accent but one more like hermes from futurama. He will be more appealing and less gay. Completely over dub his gungan ass.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

I threw together something that you might like...I think

After Effects would have been better to use, but I'm still a beginner with that.

I was trying to evoke this famous painting of the Titanic :

Titanic

and mix it with the snapping in half we now know that happened.

To get it to work would require more model shots (the barge seems to be the least photographed model in the Star Wars universe screengrabs aren't much help and the physical set (which was beautiful is always photographed cluttered up by other people, models and the like).

It needs to tip back into the pit (with a nice groaning noise) with the nose pointing up and then snap in the middle and then explode.

It would be nice to see it fall from a different angle (like the truck flip in The Dark Knight).

I don't think it's doable with stills despite Davnes always watchable efforts.

Thats why we must not have AT-ATs in Endor battle...

-Angel

The Multi-Troop Transports made easy work of trees in TPM so I don't see it as too much of a problem.

Maybe they could have a tree felling craft like the one that was very useful (and then suddenly not needed) in KOTCS.

Or perhaps some foot blades could solve the problem, if cars can have snow tires I can't see why an AT-AT wouldn't have forest feet or some kind of terrain modification (though clearly, the ankle joints would need to be modified in this mockup):

AT-AT forest feet

These are the same sort of feet that squashed a two man aircraft in ESB so between stomping and cutting and blasting they could have a good chance of clearing a path (it might help if there were some small ramming devices out the side to make sure trees didn't fall the wrong way).

Air support (something mysteriously absent from this battle).could clear paths as well.

1st of all Titanic 97 years gone last week RIP (we irish have a special place in our heart for the little ship)

2nd of all the titanic snapped in half due to her sheer size, the barge is tiny in comparison the explosions would have to be well placed & timed to be able to pull off that shot

I always thought the barge explosion was one of the good things in ROTJ. I dunno I guess its not good enough for some people. LOL

The explosion is caused by the barge gun firing at the deck at close range so predicting the effect would require a full knowledge of how the gun worked and what was where in a craft we don't know about, it was certainly a heavy ship (not as heavy as the Titanic by any means) but it could sink that way if we wanted it to.

The explosion in the film as it stands is very boring, not very convincing and doesn't carry over the visual metaphor of it being a sailing ship in a sea of sand.

The sequence was meant to evoke pirate movies but for once George was a little too subtle with his evocation.

Maybe the cannons blasts could act like Thermite and have the ship melt to a degree!

It could weaken the supporting structures  so when the repulsor drives malfunction they can't support the weight of the upward pointing end.

It seemed to be a very large long distance cannon so firing it at short range (I'd imagine) might have a Thermite like effect (hot metal squirting out of the window slats...that sort of thing).

Only two things can save the Battle of Endor.

We add Colonial Vipers from the original BSG flying around.

And we add a "Star Tours" shuttle following Lando and Wedge into the DS.

Honestly, without these additions, the film will never be worth a damn.
