The 360 doesn't support h.264/AC3?  Really?  That's kinda stupid of them ...

thats why i stuck with my PS3. i got given a XBOX360 recently and i was very unimpressed by its media capabilities compared to the PS3. Unfortunately the 720p version of ESB:R will be only available in AVCHD (which people can easily convert without reencoding to a mkv). AVCHD is the way to go especially since Blu-Ray won the format war. It can be easily burned to a DL DVD, popped into a PS3 or bluray player and viewed on your TV in all its glory. Converting it to an XVID  for an XBOX would destroy the quality. x264 codec is far superior to XVID and you can have a smaller file and higher quality than XVID could ever hope to achieve. A 2 hour movie would need to be at least 4.5 GB using the XVID codec. why the hell people stream their movies off the PC to their XBOX 360 and have to worry about the file size and codec used is beyond me when you can easily plug your PC into your TV and watch the movie without having to convert.

Give up on the XBOX360 as a media player and get yourself a cheap PS3. you'll have a blu-ray player and very good media player all in one, or just get a DVI lead (to either HDMI or DVI whatever your TVs input is) and use your PC as a media player.
