Another idea for the Hoth battle:
everything for the most part seems to be rather 2- dimensional in that you see stuff coming from the left or the right.  Would it be possible to show snow speeders flying towards us and away from us as they are flying around the AT-ATs?  Maybe not so much 30 or so all over the place, but say in a scene similar to the one you posted (with Luke zipping up to the AT-AT underbelly) show snow speeders flying underneath the AT-ATs either heading towards us or going underneath and away from us to give some extra depth and scale?

Okay, now see the background here?  That is what I was complaining about that new shot Ady created: notice how the mountains and the snow plain look like there is some distance between them up above.  I know everyone disagrees with me but the Ady shot looks like 3 models on a set.

 

well for one this is a painting and its viewpoint is a high angle so you can see more of the ground that's beyond the path of the AT-AT. in my shot its a very low angle which you can't see the full scope of the ground behind the snow mound that is in front of the closest AT-AT. Plus in my new shot the background, including the snow ground is taken from a photograph so how you think that adding a real element makes the new shot look less realistic than the original which has a foreground and background painted matte is beyond me.

If there is a camera shake for this AT-AT falling then there should be one for the AT-AT Luke asissts take down.

I dont mind that the Rebels manage to take out those AT-ATs because  they still look omminent and domineering and the fact that the Empire actually invades the Rebels base and MF just gets away  keeps the suspense up. Well not as much anymore as weve seen it a million times but you get what I mean.

also i have had a few people asking me what format the 720p version of ESB:R will be. well it will only be 720p DL-AVCHD for PS3 & blu-ray players & possibly a mkv. i will not be doing a compatible format for XBOX360's and especially a HD-DVD version. HD-DVD is dead guys, please get over it. you should have brought a PS3 (lol). i was recently given a XBOX360 elite and as a games console i quite like it but as a media player it is crap.

I know I've mentioned this before, but it would be really great if you could encode an .mkv of ANH:R, just so we can have it at the highest quality currently available and at 23.97fps. Obviously in Standard Def, but it would be better quality than the NTSC DVD9 currently doing the rounds (higher res for a start since i know you editied it in PAL res) and not have the problems of NTSC 3:2 pulldown or PAL speed-up.

Just a consideration if you're away and fancy leaving your PC encoding for a weekend or something ;)

i have stated already that the original video file for ANH:R no longer exists and that a mkv version would be pointless as it wouldn't be any better quality than someone could produce by using the DVD-9 as a source.

MKV=standard DVD, right?

And as far as camera shake, I see where Ady is going with this.  Essentially, it should only be added if the "camera" was "attached" to the object that is shaking.

No MKV is just a different format. It will be the exact same quality as the 720P DL-AVCHD....right Adywan?

Fair play, must have missed you saying that somewhere else. I'll keep trying to hunt down the PAL DVD9 so I can make the best quality x264 encode of ANH:R as possible.

Also (aimed towards the other comments about MKV), an MKV is a video container, like an AVI. It doesn't dictate the actually encoded format of the video, but the standard in the HD Rip scene is for the video to be compressed to x264 when in an MKV container, but it can contain any MPEG4 video file like DivX, XviD, H264 etc.

So, is there going to be a standard DVD version of ESB:R as well as the AVCHD/Bluray?  I haven't gotten around to making the BD plunge yet, and don't know that I will any time soon, and my minimal amount of gaming is all on the computer, so buying a PS3 is even more of a waste for me.
