i would love to see a 700mb avi version as a trial run, incase there is anything that would be worth changing? but i will be certainly downloading a DVD edition if/when it becomes available.

Sorry sir but it will be gigabytes in size. It'll be upto Ripplin to put it up so I don't know if he'll put up multiple sized ones or the full res one I'll be sending him as a preview.

Well, I'd have to learn how to make different sizes first of all. I don't think I've done that before. :p It would probably be way faster/easier if you made a smaller version and stuck it in its own folder on the disc, or stick it on a separate CD, maybe?

I also kinda think that having a bunch of versions would sort of take away from the final, full menu/feature DVD, especially a high quality version. The one I'm being sent could be viewed as a test version for a pair of fresh eyes to see and comment on before the final, and I think it wouldn't be a bad idea if the one being distributed for now would be bare bones and smaller, like 700 MB or whatever. It would make the final version seem more...special. Know what I mean?

Get Handbrake (free, Windows/Mac/Linux) and load the full-size version in - it'll let you set a file size limit and everything.  I think you can render out an AVI, but I'm not 100% sure (I always use h.264 MP4 files, much better quality in smaller sizes).

It would be two channels, I would think, but it doesn't really matter for me, because I wouldn't be using the 700 MB version to give the once over and point things out if they should be tweaked. (if you want me to do that...or would I be only getting it from you to share with others?) The 700 MB version would be the one to give general distribution. I'd use the 5.1 for evaluation.

You can do 5.1 in a 700MB file, the problem there is you don't want to have the audio eat up too much of the bitrate.  But of course you already know that, which is why we're having this conversation anyway.

I'd suggest doing it first as a 5.1, and if it ends up looking shite, you can always re-do it as a 2.0 (or 2.1, but at that point the bass channel would be kind of unnecessary in my opinion).

Why not go for a 1.2GB x264 with 5.1 audio?

I don't think anyone still burns these on CDs, so the 700MB rule is pointless.

Well a 700mb avi is pretty much standard now. Also I don't want to release it publically at 100% quality due to the fact that no one will download the DVD version in December. I'll make it 2.1 because a lot of desktop owners generally have a L, a R and a sub. Ripplin you get the 100% for preview.

That's exactly what I was thinking, but didn't spell out so bluntly. ;) Maybe you could stick the 700 in a folder by itself on the disc you send me and I'll torrent that. Or would it even fit on the same disc? Whatever way you'd like to go is cool with me.

I'll try to go for the same disc, it really depends on how big the rendered product will be. I'm at the garbage/jedi arrive at genosis scenes right now.

Finished Obi-Wan's death scene re-edit and then the alternate take on Yoda and Dooku's fight. I'll resume tomorrow night after work or on sunday.

Ok guys I'm at the ending. I have a few options for how to finish it.

A) End it with the Clones Assembling (Original Score or New Score will work)

B) End it after the wedding (includes Clone Assembly) (Original Score or New Score)

C) End it with the Celebration following Option B (A New Score)

The problem will options B and C are the tones of those scenes don't work well with the clips before this "End montage" of sorts. I'm thinking of just going with A and if not I might go with B. Let me know what you guys think (Perferably today so I can finish the film tonight.)

I hope you're kidding haha. I think I'm going to go with option A or B. Back to work I go!

I vote for A, or else D: Celebration > (maybe Wedding >) Assembly. I think it has to end on a cliffhanger, given the nature of this edit (the assembly isn't a plot cliffhanger but it has the same effect in emotional terms). It'd be nice to keep the throne room celebration if possible, however.

Well once I narrow it down then I have to go through a series of different possible scores so then I'd have to release like 33 different possiblities per option. 100 options online is not very realistic. ;) I have about 20Gbs of music that I fish through.

No, I meant preview it for yourself and then decide which one to go with. Just thinking about it is one thing, but seeing and hearing it together is a lot different. You might feel kinda 'meh' about one you thought would work and be really happy with one you initially felt 'meh' about. Haha.

Wow, I played with the audio of option A and that one fits the best. B and C seem a little random to finish the film on subtlely. The original Star Wars films end big, I'm fading this out so option A worked the best.
