So you could add Ackbar's voice and that digi DS2 schematic and have Ackbar say something "Gold Leader, the DS is rotating to fire and destroy Endor".

Then have Lando go in and take out the DS2.

Yes! ROTJ desperately needs a "ticking timebomb" at the end like ANH had!

Author

It would also make Lando's death more poignant.

Is there any footage of pilot Wedge saying "May the Force be with you"?

It would be cool if he told Lando that right before Wedge leaves for the surface.

Hmmm...

It's a bit like my "Dead Man's Switch" idea that once the shield is down the Death Star is programmed to automatically blow up Endor.

Giving us that ticking time bomb as it turns to get into range.

The novel and the likely the shooting script had Palpatine order Jerjerrod to blow up Endor is the rebels managed to knock out the shield.  Infact, in the cut scene where Jerjerrod is about to fire, he orders that (iirc) section 138 of the Death Star shut down.  So the 1138 reference never made it into the film.

Well Vaderious, ROTJ is a remake of ANH in many ways. We cant do anything about that.

Well the first planet in the movie is tattooine (ANH too)

Their is a death star (ANH too)

Millennium Falcon greatly involved in the battle (ANH too)

so no matter what it is a rip off.

Their is probably more things too.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Jabba's Palace ala Cantina 2

Leia in disguise to rescue a prisoner ala ANH

The thing was Lucas took some of his original ideas for the first film(big ground battle with wookies, etc), tweaked them, and then redid some things from ANH, only bigger and "better".

I love ESB because it takes us to completely new places. ROTJ completes the circle so naturally some things reappear again.

Nothing wrong with that.

i could imagine a little bit similar to when the emperor orders the use of the superlaser,

COMMANDER   "my lord, the rebels have taken control of endor and destroyed the shield generator"

EMPEROR     "no matter Commander, destroy the moon"

luke could then get annoyed (maybe that could inspire his charge, maybe good for JasonN if he eliminates the leia sibling subplot)

a small problem though is that it would require alot or reorganising, as all the fighters wouldnt immediately be able to enter the death star shaft.

I have ABSOLUTELY no problem with luke and leia being brother and sister. removing that one little plot would destroy the saga. And take atleast a half hour out of the whole saga.

Has anyone considered a coda for the end of ROTJ? Like after the credits. Conan The Barbarian had a pretty cool one. Short and sweet.

oooh nooo, i wasnt suggesting taking that out at all, i just know that jasonN is. lukes final fling in his fight with in ROTJ is tied to leia, he may require alternative motive if that subtext is removed.

Luke and Leia being siblings doesnt kill things. But it does shrink the galaxy a little. The main reason to do it is closure. It's the last movie. Tie up all the loose ends, including another Skywalker.

Why leave it open if there no other SW films to tinker with?

Maybe have the coda where luke is off searching for the other and leave it open?

Like Conan. :D

i like the coda idea, like a closing crawl. i suggested somewhere else, that the film could end at the funeral pyre, with the pan upwards to to stars, being a reverse from the pan down after the crawl at the start.

maybe if tpm has a special pre-crawl prologue, or just something a bit different, a reverse of this could be played on in ROTJ.

No it doesn't.  It takes out exactly the following:

- Leia being born in Episode III
- Bail Organa's discussion about adopting Leia
- Yoda's "Sky ... wal ... k ... er" line as he dies (he can still say "There is another" in ESB and ROTJ)
- The "sister" part of Obi-Wan/Luke's ROTJ conversation (though I'm in favor of the removal of this conversation entirely, whether Luke and Leia are sisters or not
- Part (but NOT ALL) of Luke and Leia's conversation on Endor
- Vader's specific lines "SISter ... so, you have a twin SISter ... " which can easily be replaced and/or modified
- "Tell your sister ... " - the "You were right" line can stay
- "He's my brother"

Done.  That's it.  And taking out those parts would all be improvements.

The way I'm handling Luke's "final attack" on Vader is fairly close to how it was done in the original, but the context of Vader's words have changed due to Leia no longer being Luke's twin:

Vader: "Yes, your feelings are strong for them. Especially for... Princess/Highness/etc." (I'm still working on the audio editing of this scene and haven't decided which lines sound the best)

Vader: "So... your feelings have now betrayed her, too. If you will not turn to the Dark Side, then perhaps she will."

So in the edit, Vader's not offering to tempt Luke's sister to the Dark Side, but rather the person he cares for the most (who's not related by blood).

eah, that would be ideal. But can it be pulled off? And what do you do with the night conversation?

You know one thing that bugs me about Leia being told that Vader is Luke's father is that there's no subsequent reaction that Vader is HER father too.

Lucas really did crunch a trilogy into one movie.

EDIT:

So about making the ewoks more fierce:

What are they mad about? Why ally themselves with the rebels?

What if there's a little bit of dialogue by Logray when he stands up and talks. You could add subtitles where it suggests the imperials have been clearing the forests and subsequently destroying Ewok villages.

To tie into the 3PO is a god idea, it would be 3PO who would be regarded as their saviour in this troubled time.

I think this concept should also include the scene where 3PO 'makes' his throne levitate.  Before this, the Ewoks ignore his command to release Han, Luke and everybody else.  To me this seems like a strange behavior to have if they regard him as a god.  This scene should be a turning point in their motivation follow 3PO's command to join in battle with the humans.

On the subject of extra Wedge lines (for the BoE), it should be remembered that Denis Lawson (Wedge) did the abridged audiobook for Heir to the Empire, so it might be possible to crib some lines from there.

sluggo:

Yeah i wondered that too. He's a god to them and they still want to roast the heroes. Huh?

Maybe have Logray gesturing and put in subtitles where he says "no, these beings are the ones forcing us from our homes and destroying our forests" or something?

Then 3PO says he'll levitate then "he" does.

Oh yeah! I had that once and forgot all about it. Good thinking.

It's always bugged me that with all the Ewoks have seen recently they thought Threepio was a God (which is why I suggested that they already have a God that looks like Threepio scroll back for details) but they ignore what he says until he floats in a chair so why aren't they worshiping the Imperials?

They fly throught the forests, put a new moon in the sky, they shoot red lightning out of their guns, look like skeletons and ride metal chickens.

That's why I suggested that Artoo uses his holographic projector to cast frightening images over Threepio while he floats in the air  (really freak the furry fellas out).

CMaulPio

Alternatively cut the whole cannibal holocaust thing and have them set them free when he tells them to, if he's a God he shouldn't need to prove himself.

That sound like a cool Idea, and I lol'ed at the metal chicken part! I've been trying to keep up with this thread, but these ideas are coming out like the X-men (It will happen, see Nightcrawler 2025!) i will post some of my ideas soon.
