How is it coming on that Hoth Hanger, vaderios?
Desidious said:Hi, Mr. Adywan, as you can see I've never posted in this forum but I visit this tread quite often so as many other people I'm anxiously waiting the release of Episode V Revisited. First of all, I'd like to congratulate you for your terrific work with Episode IV, to me it IS the definitive version of the classic.
Recently I watched Yoda's second sneak peek, where he's digitally enhanced... I'm very impressed. Having said that, I still have two suggestions... the first is that he needs to blink more; I mean, those little details you've added really make the difference between a nice puppet and a believable character but the pace needs to be faster; and second, he also needs to look forward or at least not looking squint.
Thanks for your work, Mr. Adywan, every single fan around the world now owes you one.

Yeah! A member of 501st here!
A good link between editors and 501st, if ady's edits need additional footage made from fans

Actually i stopped. Ady said that he will make a model prop to change the matte so mine matte isnt for use.
It will not take a public release until someone wants it to their edit.

Hello there (form Scotland), nice to see you pop out of the shadows (I'm sure you aren't as indolent as your Sith title implies).
The more 501st guys on here the better, especially if someone wanted to assemble an entire legion of the Emperor's best troops for shooting elements for some project or another.
Did the mechanised AT-AT guy in Brazil get back to anyone (I wonder if he's tried doing an AT-ST)?

Hit the first post in the thread. Ady updates it with all links and pics every time he posts something along the way.

Thanks man.
"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Hello to everyone!
I've been a long-time lurker on this boards and I've checked how various fan-edits progressed, but this is the first time I post.
I watched Adywan's ANH edit when it was released (and I've finally found the DVD9 version, which I'm downloading now) and it was great! I admit, I don't like all the changes, but it was a very professional edit and the color correction was great!
Here's a few questions/suggestions about TESB edit. By the way, let me say, I watched the trailers and they are superb. The ion cannon was spot-on.
Will there be a Purist version? Will there be an x264 HD version (I would have really liked to see ANH:Revisited in x264)? Is there any chance of a scene with some Snowtroopers deploying from an AT-AT? To me this was badly lacking from the "battle choreography" of TESB, which otherwise seems to be the most millitary sensible of the two trilogies.
Ady, have you tried contacting any Star Wars scale modelers, for example those at starshipmodeler.net ? They make excellent scale replicas of Star Wars vehicles (I myself am a scale modeller, although far from good) and I'm sure they could help if you decide to add ships and vehicles to either TESB or ROTJ. While I greatly admire CGI for things like blaster effects, lightsabers, "damage" shots, etc. but miniatures simply feel more real and "captivating" on screen.
IIRC one modeler had an ongoing project of reworking the Nebulon-B to look a little more sensible, up-armored and up-gunned etc.
Again, thanks for this great edits! Not only are they outstanding, but you've sure paved the way for some very serious reworks in the future!
Best regards, and sorry for the typos (English isn't my native language)!
Welcome aboard
As for a Purist version, Adywan said some pages ago that there won't be any, there's no need for it. There was a Purist version of AHN because there were some controversial changes, and the case is different for ESB.
And as for the deployment of troopers in the snow I'm not sure there will be any either.
There will be no Purist version of ESB (which won't have very many "controversial" changes anyway in my opinion) or ROTJ (which might anger some, because there's going to be a LOT of changes to ROTJ).
Since he's doing ESB in 720p, my bet is that there will be an H.264 HD release. ANH was done in standard-def, and a lot of the changes in there would have to be completely redone to make an HD release, and Ady has said he won't be doing that.
So, the 720p ESB Revisited will fit on a Dual layer disc? and a newer dvd player can pass that 720p signale uncompressed over HDMI. Or would it be best to burn it to blueray for use in a blueray player.

Judging by Ady's other HD releases, you'll be able to burn it onto a standard DVD9 but will need a Blu-Ray player to play it. So you won't need Blu-Ray media or a Blu-Ray burner but you will need a Blu-ray player to view it on your TV.

Welcome.
There will be no Purist version although ESB won't feature many controversial changes
There will be a 720p AVCHD release for Empire but not for ANH, ANH was done in standard def
Ady will be building his own scale models just for this project including a new Wampa and the inside of the SLug's mouth.
While the resolution quality may not hold up well in close up if scaled down into the background and mixed in with atmospheric effects perhaps this model might help with both ESB and ROTJ.

That's very cool, maybe adywan could get a hold of him for ROTJ:R.
The person your searching for simply does not exist
He may have rendered it in lower quality to speed up processing time and YouTube's typical resolution. For a real project, there's probably a higher detail mode that would take longer to render but give better results.

This one is more relavent to the battle of Hoth:

And this one has a killer beat you can dance to:
Those looked good. Maybe he had to tone down the quality for youtube. If the quality can be improved, we could paint the right skin on them, put in the proper sound effects and throw them in an action sequence and they'd be perfect.

So will Wednesdays be the day for Ady's weekly "Select" still from ESB:R? We got our first one on Wednesday.
Mondays actually work better for my schedule.
Preview is in May right? Not far away....peace...

Ha! I'm sure he'll keep that in mind. ;)
And gavin, you're absolutely right. The 13th already?! This month is flying by.
I don't think the AT-ST animations are quite there yet...they really need to step with their feet closer to the balance point. At the moment, they tend to step with their feet directly below their "hips".
Have you seen the fan film 'IMPS - The Relentless'? the AT-ST CGI graphics are flawless.

so ady, 2010 is the absolute confirmed release of ESBR? or is that just a goal you're making for yourself? i'm getting to excited to wait!
2010 is the goal i have set but there may still be a slim chance of the Xmas 2009 release. the main factor against this happening at the moment is money. building these sets and everything else is costing a lot more than i had originally anticipated. I desperately need the Fine Molds Millennium Falcon before i can begin to build the hangar set because of getting the scale right. The same goes with the asteroid canyon scene. but with the only Fine Molds models i can find are on Ebay and are about £200, a quarter of that is just shipping to the Uk, its just a case of saving up as much as i can and preying there is still one available when i get the cash. Then there is the problem of building these huge sets but living in a 1 bedroom flat and still being able to live in this place with these huge sets in my front room. That's going to be fun. Its all going to have to be done one set at a time. Then there is the depressing thought that as soon as that one set is complete and filmed it will all have to be smashed up and disposed of so i can move onto the next one. I'm not looking forward to that.
Tobar said:Hey Ady, I was just glancing at the excellent comparisons you have in the first post when I noticed something:
Were these just temporary starfields?
starfields is one thing that has never bothered me. the last thing you should be looking at in a space sequence is the stars. i never wanted to use generated starfields and instead wanted to use original starfields from the stare was movies . you will get repeated starfields because there is only so much area i can grab and combine to use to create a very hi res starfield that can be used for panning shots and fast movement. Its the same starfield i used for ANH:R and no one commented on that so i'm not too bothered by repeated star clusters. lol

Still i like the sky has a bit more blue to popup
-Angel
the thing is that the sky was never blue in the original. the 2004 set was completely blue in that shot so when i did the colour correction i gave the land mass and the sky a bit of definition. But ,even though its hard to notice in that scene, its actually snowing when Luke chats to Han so it should have that cloudy and misty feel to that shot.

Welcome to the forum Desidious and Burdokva.
When adding any emotives to a puppets face there is a danger of adding too much. subtle will always look more natural. i have studied the actors in the scenes with Yoda to see how often they blink and if you watch the scenes you will see that you hardly catch a blink by them so it seems right that you would only catch a few with Yoda now and then. Also i have tried to add some eye movement but this just ended up looking really fake so i have decided against that.

No, it will be every Thursday leading up to the release of the trailer on the 21st May, which is also a Thursday. The first one was posted on a Thursday GMT.

I'm sure there's someone in the UK who would be willing to store the models for you when you're done. Or sell them to help recoup your money...
