Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Edit Suggestions — Page 26

Hey ImperialFighter,

You seem to be suggesting that you have your ideas written down by hand. If that's the case, why not scan them and post the file rather than waiting several days before you can retype them?

Just a suggestion.

Take care,
Ryan

Just caught your post HeKS before I gotta go.

Unfortunately that's not ideal, as it's a slightly incomplete jumbled scrawl over several pages at the moment, that's pretty detailed, that I have to refine into something more straightforward for everyone to make sense of.  I was rushing to get through as much as I could, so my writings are all over the place at the moment.

Thanks for the thought though.

Hey ImperialFighter,

I get ya. If you've glanced at any of my posted edit plans from a few pages back you will see I got VERY detailed, so I understand how time consuming it can be to organize your thoughts and post em.

Take care,
Ryan

I also hate how Indy rubs Mutt's head - very cheesy.

Wow, you just summed up the whole movie. ;)

...yeah. Sorta did huh?

Well, lets hope we can at least KINDA save the movie with this edit. Looking forward to hearing Imperials idea for the climax. Also interested in what the rest of you have to say also regarding the climax - if you have any ideas (Laser, Topdawg, Heks, etc) Tough one I knowm, but its the only thing holding up the edit.

I'm Still waiting for InfoDroids edit of Crystal Skull to be released.

He has scrapped the project as far as I know.

Nope, not scrapped.  It's halfway done.  Just trying to get inspired enough to finish it.  :)  What a dog of a movie.  Depresses me really.

But, I must say, I'm extremely proud of Jones1899 here for taking it upon himself to learn how to do all this stuff so he can finally make a version of the film come to fruition that he'll enjoy.

Thanks ID. You've been a hell of a lot of help though. Several of you have.

ID, any thoughts on the climax? You had a lot of good ideas on your edit - what were your plans for the climax?

Sucks. It's the ONLY thing holding me up now. I'm really anxious to let y'all see it.

My plans for the climax?  I didn't have any.  That's why it's only halfway finished.  ;)

No, seriously though, I hadn't planned to do anything drastic to the end, even though it needs it.  Not sure there's too much anyone can really do to make it like it should be.  That's what's so frustrating.  The very concept itself is flawed.

I was going to cut out Indy trying to help Mac, which was lame.  And anything else that was truly offensive.    I wanted to add some Temple music during their escape through those water wheel things.  Didn't know what the hell I was going to do with Spalko's death and the UFO.  ...sigh...And the wedding I had planned to cut completely.  I wanted to end it with "Somewhere your grandfather is laughing."  Cue the music and credits...THAT's an Indy ending very reminscent of the ends of both Temple and Crusade.  Plus, the wedding reminded me too much of the end of Attack of the Clones.  What is it with Lucas?  Everybody's gotta get married!  It's so cliche.  Indy is James Bond.  He never gets married.  I love Marion and all, but no.

So, sorry I don't have many gems to fire at you there, Jones.  Now you see why I wasn't too excited about finishing it.  It's a blah ending to a blah movie.  We need some inspiration here on how to really, truly make it a worthwhile climax with the existing footage or even footage from another movie!!!

MTHaslett is a genius when it comes to this kind of thing.  He really is.  Where are you, Mark?

Well, Bond did get married once but it didn't end so well.  Maybe if they did another it would open with Marion getting shot on their honeymoon.

I don't actually see Indy as James Bond. That was the direction that Lucas wanted to go, but Ford wanted him to be a bit more everyman than that. So I don't have a problem with the wedding scene (especially since it's Marion at the altar). What I have a problem with is the way it was handled. Like everything else, it was just goofy. It's like they weren't confident enough in their abilities to make a good movie, so they just made one that NEVER takes itself seriously. Like a shy guy who asks a girl out in a joking manner. If she says no, well, i was just a joke anyway. So while I am considering possibilities of recuting the wedding a bit, its not near the top of the list of things I wanted to change. Although I do agree it is similar to previous endings in the OT.

Meanwhile, the climax is KILLING ME! All I can think is to hire someone to digitally cut the full bodied alien from the scenes of Spalko dying. Like I said, as it is, the only scenes of her dying WITHOUT aliens in the shot are too few to create a meaningful climax. Like its over too quickly.

I also REALLY WANT to cut the Indy saving Mac scene. How were you going to accomplish this? I though maybe have Indy go for the whip, but the place quakes, Indy falls onto the steps whip in hand, then we see Mac flying away. Not SURE this will work, but I'll look. Any other ideas?

I really wanted to give this to my mom for Easter next weekend (aw, how sweet, I know) so I was hoping to get a copy burned by then. Not looking good though.

I think the "I dunno, it's just a story" line should stay. Maybe it trivializes the relic or the pursuit of it, but I think it's classic Indy skepticism.

Hey Jones,

Any chance you can post some stills from the scene you think you would need to have digitally altered?

I also like the Indy skepticism, but he says the SAME thing later to Spalko. What makes that line interesting is we get the feeling that Indy MIGHT have a SLIGHTLY more open mind now after all he's seen so for all we know he may just be telling her this to mess with her hopes. So now we don't have the repeated line AND it helps establish motivation for Indy. He is STILL skeptical about the aliens though as these are a bit out of his realm of knowledge and experience. Thoughts?

Heks, I'd be happy too post some stills... how do I do that again?

Just upload the pics to Imageshak or Photobucket; hit the button on the reply box with the tree and paste the still's url in the box that pops up.  Easy-peezie.

I just had an idea for Spalkos death that you might use

instead of having the crystal skeltons turn to the one alien you could have the skeltons start to spin faster and faster and the force of the spining creates spalko catching alight. You could use the shot of the skeltons spining just before they morph and by finding the right frames you can make a longer spin. It is possible ive try it of windows movie maker i can send you the edit if you like

jones1899, I've frustratingly been unable to get the time yet to cover some various possibilities that I recently worked out. (I'm currently painting/decorating a big house after work)  I'm trying to get the time to organise certain screenshots to better show what I mean along the way, as I have a lot to post here, concerning potential variations for both the beginning and the ending of the movie, where things can be tweaked very differently from the current version.

There are plenty of other moments I've reworked in ways that I'd have preferred in the first place too, but i'll concentrate on the 'beginning' and 'ending' stuff first, as that is what you are most interested in, at this point.

As far as the movie's climax is concerned though, the current theatrical one is just so unsatisfactory in so many ways to begin with....  However, just to let you know, my alternative sequence for Spalko's demise DOES involve using some of the actual 'alien representation' shots, along with a way to streamline some of the more excessive CGI moments into something far tighter, using existing shots, without the need for any digital alterations along the way.  (Except re-colouring perhaps)  That wedding scene can be reworked quite nicely too, into something that outstays it's welcome less....

But this will all take a little more time to put on here unfortunately.
