I know the train thing is still a big stretch but WindWaker was set hundreds of years after Ocarina of Time when the seas have risen and acient Hyrule is buried under water and all that remains are islands.  Link and Zelda get reincarnated in their descendants.

Zelda is a sea pirate. Link is just some boy whos grandma gives him a weird elvish outfit.

In other Zelda games their was an ananchronism in their being a postal system.  They had no such thing in the middle ages, but hyrule is not earth and its all make believe anyway and the games are made for kids and the young at heart.

I agree the train thing is lame, but the demographic being Children who own DS systems and kids like trains its a no brainer for sales potential.

Even being a huge Zelda fan because of Nostlagia even i can admit that the games and their themes are juvenile in nature.  The stories are cool, and the music too, and the games are damn fun to play.  But their are really no adult themes in the game, no realistic boodshed or killing or sex.  A reason why older folks gravitate to the PS3 and XBOX360.

Zelda games are very much made for a pre-teen audience to like 12 year olds.  While the Final Fatasy games are more geared toward young teens to middle teens.

I know of very little adult level fantasy games out there.  Whether for the PC, 360 or PS3.  I mean there is fable 2.
