see to me i dont consider the whole getting rid of the reflection of Ford in the glass as a change...
i see it as an enhancement... it never really bothered me before until people mentioned it....

just like the transparent snowspeeder cockpits.... when they changed that i considered it an enhancement...
I dont mind Lucas "enhancing" the OT whatsoever...

the man can go buckwild on it and i wouldnt care... but when he adds in crap which 1 looks cheesy and doesnt flow with the look of the film (ie CG Jabba the Hutt yeesh!) 2 which takes away from the characters and/or plot... then i start to care.

Now, I wonder... in these new versions of Indiana Jones, does Indy still shoot first at the guy with the swords? Or perhaps Lucas has insisted on adding a digital throwing dagger to prove that good old morally pure Indiana was just acting out of self-defence? 'Course, then they would also have to digitally alter his dispassionate, "I-don't-have-time-for-this" facial expression to one showing pain and regret at taking the life of a fellow human being. *chuckle* Hypcrit.

Only problem is that Spielberg directed the IJ films so he would have to make the change, not Lucas. And, at least Spielberg would include both versions when releasing it to DVD.

Yes but the Indiana Jones DVDs don't contain the original versions. Only the ones with the 14 changes. The changes don't add anything they delete things you were never meant to see. All Lucasfilm DVDs have had surprises. With The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones it was new scenes. Indiana Jones it was eliminating crew equitment and glass. American Grafeti digitally enhanced sky. Therefore I am sure he will add a little something for the 2004 DVDs.

I have found one scene that I like better in the SE than in the Original ANH. Has anyone noticed the cardboard cutout or cardboard cutout looking people that you can see in the Widescreen version just after Luke, Han, and Chewie enter the room during the Awards ceremony? They look terrible. I compared it with my SE VHS and saw that they did fix that scene in the SE. It's pretty funny if you see it. Again, you need access to the Widescreen version.

There is one funny thing I noticed. They removed the glass reflection when Indy was facing the cobra, but they forgot to remove it when Marion faces it. I thought that was pretty funny.

First of all if you don't own Attack of the Clones on DVD drop what your doing, quit reading this darn post and buy the fucking thing. It is the best movie of all time in an amazing digital presentation. By the way The Phantom Menace DVD contains one minute to the pod race intro, one minute to the pod race itself, one minute arrival on Coressent. In Attack of the Clones we get an extra 30 seconds to Anakins talk with Padme after terminating the tuskins. This extra dialog helped in my opinion like most of Lucases changes. Also again BUY THE MOTHER FUCKING DVDs RIGHT FUCKING NOW. Pardon my french.

The AOTC DVD basically features an extension to Anakin's confession to Padmé. It supposedly helps sell her forgiveness of him. Personally, while I love Lucas to death, there is no denying that the love story in AOTC just doesn't really work very well. It had to pretty much wrap itself up completely by the end of the film and I understand that, but still...

Anyway, so yeah. As far as I can tell, the other "additions" to AOTC aren't actually additions at all, but were present during digital screenings of the film, but absent from film projected screenings simply because Lucas had time to add in those changes. In the digital version of AOTC (and of course the DVD), Jango's jet packs malfunctions and that's why Mace so easily killed him; Fett was relying on his jet pack to save him, but when it died... well, so did Jango. Moving on, at the end of the wedding ceremony, Padmé grabs Anakin's left hand (his real one) with her right hand and then his mechanical right hand with her left hand. In the film version, she only grabbed his left hand.

Those are all the changes as best I can remember them.

Trent and Jimbo, thanks for the 411.

Jimbo, I forgive your French. I don't know if I'm gonna buy them just yet as I'm still holding out hope on the killer UE in 2007. Then I'll have it all (which will hopefully include the OV-OT as well).

Well, if you don't like the prequels, I wouldn't recommend buying them. I mean, you're just setting yourself up for a disappointment, ya know? If you think you can give the prequels an honest, objective chance, then hey go for it. You can always sell them later to get some of your money back.

I'll make you a deal Kevin. If the Original Trilogy is ever released on DVD as a standalone set (not part of a larger set of five or more discs), I'll buy you a copy over Amazon or whatever and have them deliver it to you. Why? Because your petition is important and I feel that you will have had some influence over the outcome of the release. Not TOTAL influence, but it's tough to argue with 50,000+ signatures along with 20th Century Fox breathing down George's neck about this gold mine he's sitting on.

And, how can anyone who claims to love Star Wars not own the 1 & 2 on DVD?!!!!!!!!!!

And also, not want to own the SE on DVD.
I watched ANH this morning in bed, much to the annoyance of the girlfriend, to find that VHS is shit.
Bad quality, bad sound, bad all round really.
I couldn't give a flying fuck if the SE are the only versions to be released.
I just can't wait to have the DVD, just for the picture and sound alone!!!

You lot are mad I'm tellin' ya!!! MAD!!!!!!!!!

Even if I don't relate or understand, a lot of people don't like Episodes 1 and 2, thus not buying them on DVD is the smart choice for them to make.

Me, I can't wait for Sept. 21st to come around! SE or not, I'm going to geek out about this all day. Seriously, I'm going to skip work and everything to do this, woo hoo!

Yes, I am geeking out September 21st, most of us will. I still hold firm that GL should release the originals and I am going to buy the Faces Laserdisc to make sure I always have them.

But what I liked about the SE.

The new shot of the Jawa sancrawler.
The fixed landspeeder shots
The pan into Mos Eisley, don't care one way or the other about the goofy scenes (The droid smaching and the Jawas falling around)
I like the Wolfman almost gone, both GL and the modelmaker of the Wolfman HATED that mask and would have put just about anything else in IF they had anything left to use.
I like the Jabba scene, not the CGI. I can deal with the stepping on Jabba's tail only because it shows that Han has some backbone after he was neutered with the Greedo scene. (hate Han shooting second by the way)
The shot of the Falcon lifting was good, even with the different geometry.
I liked the new explosion of Alderaan.
The improved matte shots of the Falcon in the Death Star
Threepio's explanation of the schematics of the Death Star, instead of silently looking at it.
The restored Biggs scene.
The new Battle of Yavin, far superior and no more of these repeating shots of things like in the old one, not counting the Death Star turbolasers.
New explosion of Death Star, looks more like a battle station exploding instead of more like a chemistry experiment on film.
The replacing of the cardboard looking soldiers in the Celebration at the end was good.
Liked shots of Wampa, but they need to replace the old head
The new windows are good in Cloud City, but ILM needs to fix the lighting and ABSENCE of windows when you see the shot of the stormtroopers that trap Leia, Han, and Chewie when they are facing Vader.
I don't like the line chance of Luke in Dagobah, but if Ben Burt says the source material was not in good enough shape, I'll believe him.
Mixed feelings about Vader's new lines and getting on the Star Destroyer, could live with or without it.
Mixed feelings about Luke screaming, but considered he has always screamed when his hand is cut off(his father didn't with most of his arm cut off, just an ahh) and considering Luke is still a Jedi Padawan/Apprentice, I can deal with it.
The new addition to the top hatch of the Falcon when Lando goes to save Luke is good.
Didn't like Jedi Rocks as much as Lapti Nek, but I can live with it, it is somewhat catchy I suppose.
The Twi'lek falling in the pit was cool, built up more, "what does this monster look like" suspense.
The bantha herd was cool.
The fixing of the shot of Jabba's sail barge was good, it doesn't look like bad 80's shadow people are walking on it anymore.
Mixed feelings on the Sarlacc. I could live with or without it. It destroys some logic of the sharp spikes around its neck? but also adds more tension to the scenes.
Like Han's new line of "I can see a lot better now," from the old line "Trust me."
The explosion of the Second Death Star was better.
And finally, the new celebration is far better to the old. I like the new scenes and the music. A more fitting end to ROTJ and the SW saga as a whole.

This isn't new though because my original VHS set has him saying both lines. Just at different times during his rescue of Lando.

Jedi Master DJR, I Think that george lucas is a great flimmaker and I like most of the changes in the special edtions except for the greedo shoots frist sceen. I truely hope that mr. lucas would reconsider releasing the special edtions and release the original cuts as well. Besides I agree with lucas saying he was not happy with the original versions of the flims and he want to fix them and have them be completed. I think the special edtion prints look a lot better than the originals and the dvd's of the classic trilogy will look great.

If you'd read the threads, Luke30, you'd know that the 1997 SEs are the ones currently being announced for the September DVD release. But, as we all know happens with LFL, anything can change.
