What's wrong about them?  I've never noticed.

How could you NOT notice how different R2 sounded in ROTJ compared to ANH, ESB, TPM, AOTC, and ROTS?

Because I was 6 when I first saw it, and have been used to it ever since.  I didn't know it was that obvious.  Sorry.

The only R2 "line" from RotJ I can remember is after Luke says "I can't do it Artoo" and R2 says what I've always imagined as "what can't you do, what can't you do?" which is a reuse or reused some other time (I can't remember which).  Never noticed that any of the "dialog" sounded different.

Nah, R2 sounds differently in each movie. Most changes pop up to TPM and ROTJ. Maybe some of the odd sounds replaced with some more used ones.

Well, we don't want him using the exact same sounds over and over again, do we?  We don't want another Boussh on our hands.

Yeah and the language of Huttese throughout the whole saga seem to use the 5 words over and over. When Sebulba talks he basically says some of the same crap that jabba says. Why is everybody in the saga Bantha Fodder? Why does Jabba sound completely different in all the movies. I wish they would have made Jabba sound as large in TPM and ANHSE as he did in ROTJ. Why does jabba sound so different when it would be easy to make him sound like the ROTJ jabba if we had the scenes without the music and soundeffects. I mean make jabbas voice deeper ad some breathing and bass. I prefered Jabbas voice in ROTJ and can we add jabbas laugh to the rest of his apperances because Han knows that laugh so their for han has heard it several times. I know this is off subject but do you think we could be george lucas and add a holographic image of jabba talking to boba in his slave one when he is watching the millenium falcon. It would be easy just use the scenes from return and fix it up to look holographic and use some of his dialogue. hoo hoo hoo hoo ho hoo ah ah ah ah ah I love that laugh.

A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Its one thing to have different sounds that are consistent with what came before, but its quite another to have an entirely new type of sound altogether.

Its like if Yoda suddenly spoke proper english, or the Millennium Falcon suddenly started sounding like an airliner.

On that note, even the lightsabers sound a little different in ROTJ. I realize I have issues with the sound in ROTJ....

The simplist way is to cut Jabba out of the other movies.  Ady already did one of them.  Then there is consistency in that we only see him the one time!

The only thing I had against the scene was the voice and how small jabba was. But yes it makes you wonder when you watch it I wonder who jabba is he sounds scary, then return of the jedi we see that jabba the hutt is basically a 1000 pound gangster with a deep voice.

Again, I agree. But I didn't notice this before somebody pointed it out, but once they did, it became very noticeble and annoying.

Watch ROTJ again with this in mind and compare with another movie, ESB for instance. I'm sure you'll hear the difference.

That's awesome.  Seriously awesome.  Both the idea and the implementation.

actually that could be a good idea. Or schematics for protocal droids that the imperials had or something.

It's funny you bring up Yoda, because in each movie he speaks in progressively more broken English.  It's not bad at all in ESB, he only speaks in "Yoda-speak" about 50-60% of the time.  ROTJ it's a little more, TPM about 75%, AOTC even more and the grand daddy of them all, from ROTS:

"Not if anything to say about it I have!"

Ugh.  Shoot me.  If there's any way Ady can re-jig some of Yoda's PT dialogue to seem a little less gimmicky, that'd be fantastic.

But back to ROTJ - there are a LOT of inconsistencies in that movie in relation to ANH/ESB:

- Imperial rank insignia
- Darth Vader's super-shiny suit
- Darth Vader's lightsaber hilt
- C-3PO's midsection wiring
- Boba Fett's armor

And I'm sure many others I haven't noticed, like Artoo's voice.

The rank insignia in ROTJ is a particular annoyance to me, but adywan has sadly said that he isn't bothered about them. Since I have absolutely no knowledge on editing films, and no fate whatsoever in Lucas ever correcting this, I feel a bit bummed that ady won't fix this hugh technical error.

But hey, I still greatly look forward to ROTJ:RE, especially since ady mentioned what he has in store for the final space battle. It will be grand for sure.

in regards to vaders suit I think it should be dulled down a little bit in ESB and ROTJ because a new hope it wasnt shiney at all. one question though seeing as I havent yet got star wars revisited was vaders voice tampered with because in the film i thought it sounded like vader was talking through a walkie talkie were as his voice was crisp and booming in the other films.

Isn't it simply concievable that in the year or so since ESB Vader cleaned his armor, and Fett modified/fixed/upgraded/tweaked/gained-weight-and-had-it-adjusted his armor?

This is way off subject but this is a crude jabba the hutt edit i did. I just did it for fun but tell me what you think I edited his voice to sound bigger and more ROTJish. now that i see it though han sounds too quiet but thats ok seeing as its never gonna be official

Sure, it's conceivable.  That doesn't mean it doesn't bug the shit out of me anyway.  You can either be consistent with sequels, or change something that wasn't fucked up to begin with, letting people come up with their own in-universe explanations as to why it's changed.

Bad example perhaps, but one that's stuck with me since I first saw it in theaters - the neuralyzers in Men in Black II.  Why the hell were they blue?!  Sure, you can say that they're upgraded, a new model, but why couldn't they have just left them red for consistency's sake?

Oh, and Fett's armor isn't an upgrade issue, it's a color issue for me.  There's too much red trim on his ROTJ suit that was a shade of green on his ESB suit.

I feel the exact opposite. For me, it is Vader in ANH that looks (and sounds) a bit dull. TESB is often considered Vader's finest hour and I think his look was a hugh contributing factor to that. I vastly prefer his suit to be shiny. As for Boba Fett, I would prefer him cut from ROTJ entirely.

I agree about the voice, though. I often feel like ANH-Vader is a prototype-Vader that doesn't mesh well with the other films. His voice is poor, his suit is duller, he acts like a lackey rather than a commander, nobody is afraid of him, etc.

As I understand it, Adywan did alter his voice somewhat for the DVD-9. I have listened to a test clip and it did improve things, but I unfortunately think nothing short of a redub would entirely bring the voice quality up to TESB/ROTJ level.

Btw, no critism to James Earl Jones at all. He did a great delivery in ANH, as he always does. It is likely the cheap recording technology that is to blame here.

Yeah. I said dull it down in the others well because adywan already finished ANHR but I guess someone could do something to it someday.

Right, sorry, I wasn't thinking straight. I'm tired, I guess :)

Lucas might fix this in the next release, but that's not much of a comfort since his version will probably pale compared to adywan's in all other respects. Oh well.

i've noticed the difference in yoda's dialogue also, however, i like how he speaks everything backwards. A problem with that you have? driving you nuts am i?
