Okay folks,

I'm going to create a list ala the ESB:R list I have regarding the Prequel ideas.  I will separate them by movie and scene (just like the ESB:R list) so as to better keep track of ideas and suggestions.

Good luck with that.  I can't imagine how you'll organize it.  Keep your eyes open on the front page of ESBR, as Ady is replacing his change list with one I made to match my ROTJR list.

i quite liked the way he used the gun, but the whole grevious bursting into flames was a little over the top. could have been better perhaps if grevious just violently hit the floor after being shot. anticlimactic end of the war.

It might have been better still if Grievious fell to his death (don't all Star Wars villains take a tumble?) to create a degree of ambiguity over who Vader really is.

I think Obi-Wan should have been a Knight/master at the start of TPM and Qui-Gon either be a friend he went to Naboo with or ran into at the temple and make the story of Obi-wan in the PT flow more accurately with what he says in RoTJ: "when I first knew him he was already a great pilot.....I took it upon myself to train him as a Jedi" if we picture this line disregarding the PT, it would appear that Obi-wan met a young hot-shot pilot (18 or 20 years old) in one of his adventures and and was impressed with Anakin's ability and Force attunement, and he "took it upon himself" to train him disregarding what Yoda said, which in turn makes him more like Qui-Gon in certain ways. If we follow this train of thought the rebelious "hot shot" attitude of *that* Anakin would make him more suitable to the phrase "Vader was seduced by the dark side" as in Anakin would exhibit rebelious and adventure-seeking behavior and be seduced by the promise of more power. This scenario makes it difficult for Padme to appear as well as other things in the current PT, but makes the whole saga flow as a whole, without white lies and racionalizations. And by training a 20 year old Anakin Yoda and Obi-Wan realized it would be dangerous to disregard what they usually did with the younglings, hence Yoda's resistance to train a similarly aged Luke in ESB. It all ties together. What do you think?

anyone ever thought of redubbing jake lyod's lines to feel better

Author

I think there have been calls to redub many of the performances in the prequels. The OT used redubbing as a tool to improve the final cut, just look at the lost cut of the Cantina scene from ANH (it's like Eastenders on acid). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxXormkENVI

REGARDING DARTH GREVIOUS:
regardless of changing him to a rebuilt Maul, could we at least have Obi-Wan kill him by force projecting an object into his guts, as opposed to shooting him with a gun?  Didn't Obi-Wan have a general disdain for guns anyways (ie his conversation with Han in ANH)?

I think Obi's disdain for guns is evident in the scene, and gives it a little humor. "How uncivilized."

UGH!  I would still ditch the gun; I would rather Obi use his skill in the force to take down an enemy dependent on technology than have Obi ditch the Force to kill him in not just a boring fashion but in a way that negated the entire fight before it.  As in: why didn't he just pack heat and do an Indiana Jones and shoot him to begin with?  The really bad pun-ny one-liner just makes it worse (especially with the way Ewan says it).

In fact, I would be for getting rid of just about ALL the stupid one-liners, as in: Hayden glowering at Ewan is enough to show me he hates him as opposed to him actually having to SAY "I hate you!"  It's as if half the script is needless exposition that tells us what we can already figure out.

in the ROTS comic, obi wan says "I love you anakin, but i don't have to save you."

i quite liked that, if it was a cut line it wouldnt surprise me if they took it oout as it is quite similar to batman begins.

Ok, so I posted this in my edit thread (since it's a part of my fanedits of EP2/EP3), but since this thread is about changing the fundamental nature of the Prequels, I thought it'd be a good idea to post this concept for the Count Dooku character:

- turn Dooku from an evil Sith Lord into a rebel Jedi fighting against the Republic to bring down the mysterious Darth Sidious.

Yes, and let me tell you why I think this is a good idea...

As posted at FE.org:

I also really like JasonN's idea of Dooku not being associated with the Sith whatsoever. Granted, Christopher Lee makes a great Sith Lord...and it has been argued that making this change would diminish the extent to which Palpatine has manipulated things, BUT...I think MORE importantly, having Dooku as an enemy, seeing what "a Jedi" is capable of, it causes Anakin (and the audience) to get more comfortable with seeing a Jedi as the bad guy. And it plays right into Palpatine's hand. Especially in ROTS. After the duel, Anakin hasn't beheaded a Sith...he's killed a Jedi. This Jedi was the enemy. And later, when Mace stands in the way of Anakin's needs to save his wife, it's much easier for Anakin to make the mental transition that Mace - a Jedi - is now his enemy too. If Dooku could plot to overthrow the Republic, then certainly Mace or Yoda are capable of that as well.

Anakin doesn't live in the same black-and-white, good-and-evil world Luke was born into. Anakin exists in much more of a gray area, where people aren't necessarily what they portray themselves to be. Making Dooku a "good" Jedi who feels he's doing the right thing but still happens to be an antagonist to our heroes, is much more interesting than this Sith nonsense. Lucas' idea of "twists and turns" are much more akin to the scripts of professional wrestling, where a good guy will turn sides and go bad just for the shock of it all. A month later, he recants and gains the love of the crowd again. But it doesn't work in a movie like this. Not when you're trying to portray realistic characters in an unrealistic world, at its core I think that's what Star Wars (at its best) has always been about.

The viewer's mindset should always be the same as the main character's. Like Anakin himself, we shouldn't know who to trust...the galaxy should be off-balance in a way...and the only character who we should trust implicitly and feel 100% comfortable with is Palpatine...at least we know HE'S a good guy. (and here's where your improvements in securing "Sidious' secret identity" will come in handy) Good thing he's in charge. Too bad the Jedi are trying to buck him at every turn. Why don't they like him? We do. The only thing made to feel appealing should be his singular vision of "peace". Until we find out in Episode III that Palpatine has been the villain all along, but by the time we realize it, it's too late to stop it. We have to witness and participate in the fall.

If this is the way you've approached it then I think your sensibilities on this are well-founded, JasonN. It will definitely be an improvement to the credibility of the storyline.

Addtionally, on the subject of the purple lightsaber:

Color has always been important in the Star Wars Saga. I always thought that it would make more sense to give Dooku the purple blade to signal that he's a turn-coat. I mean, if blue = good and red = bad and you're not sure if Dooku is good or bad, then purple makes perfect sense for his character. Additionally, purple has always been associated with royalty, and Dooku IS royalty.

I remember there being a lot of speculation after AOTC came out on whether or not Mace would turn bad, suggesting the purple saber was a hint to the audience that he would enact some kind of betrayal in episode III... But like so many other things in the Prequels, Mace's saber color was actually void of any meaning at all.

Anyway, unlike some of the other attempts to re-color Dooku's saber, MagnoliaFan's in particular, your version has no hint of red bleeding through. It looks really good. You should be proud. Up to this point you've made a lot of really good changes. And I'm actually glad there's so many different edits of these movies, because I think the community keeps building and improving on what has come before. It seems to be a collective experience.

I'm waiting for the DVD's. :)

There is a lot to like here, while some people just don't like purple lightsabres, it creates the impression that before going off the rails (and Sith or not this Dooku is off the rails, he's killing Jedi when he doesn't need to, he could get into his ship with Obi-Wan and Anakin disabled with ease but goes in for the kill giving Anakin a chance to keep the duel going) Dooku held the same position on the council that Mace does.

When Anakin executes Dooku instead of securing his arrest he steps over the same line (not yet a Sith but no longer true to the precepts of the Jedi Order).

It's much more subtle than just having him a Sith Lord (though I could still see if Anakin didn't go to plan Palpatine would continue to work on him, thirteen years is a long time without a direct apprentice).

It would be nice to add this to the idea expressed some pages back of introducing Dooku as an outsider at the funeral of Qui-Gon (perhaps if he hadn't died at that point he might have joined Dooku or brought him back into the fold).

Dooku with a purple saber.  I likes it.

While we are exploring this, we also need to be mindful that Dooku has an alter-ego in the movies.  Tyranus needs to be dealt with as well if we are making Dooku a rogue/fallen Jedi.

What say ye?

if dooku isnt  sith aswell, i guess the CIS could be more like a proto-rebel alliance, as if the saga switches sides from PT to OT. also if he is a jedi in AOTC, then the sith wont really feature in the film atall, which would make it more like a harry potter III film, almost a breather from the 'main threat' (no voldemort in HP III if you didnt know).

it would be good in ROTS when the sith show up again (in the form of palpatine) that our reaction could be 'oh those guys, for got about them' and maybe as ID speculated (i think) that 'hmm, wow, that nice old man is a sith, i knew they were the good guys really!'

jedi dooku though wouldnt that require not having jedi killer grevious? grevious could just be reduced to a backseat general if his lightsaber bits were cut off.

Tyrannus only gets a mention in a few scenes which perhaps Jason has snipped around already.

I actually tried to rework the scene so that the reason why Dooku goes in to attack Obi-Wan is because he grab his lightsaber back using the Force, indicating that he's still continuing his fight and giving Dooku no choice, but to strike back.
(hopefully that came across to the viewer, but like a lot of fanedited scenes, it's subjective, though)

Yeah, I removed all mention of Tyrannus from my EP2 edit.
(so now when Obi-Wan asks Jango about Syfa-Dias, Jango says he's never heard of him and then just asks Obi-Wan if he likes his "army")

Syfa-Dias...there's a bit of a drag it might be possible to slip in some reference to him actually being a Council member during TPM (only to die under mysterious circumstances by AOTC).

Maybe just sticking a quiet line of dialogue having Obi-Wan address "Master Dias" when he thinks the meeting about Anakin is over.

So instead of implicating himself Dooku's references to the archives are now hinting that something is going on in the council that he doesn't approve of.

JasonN, I thought you were making Qui-Gon the one who ordered the clone army...oh, wait...maybe that was Type12point.

Oh Belgium!

That has to be one of the (if not the) most bizarrely disturbing sentences ever written in any language.

It would possibly create the impression that in the whole Star Wars galaxy there are only about three or four tunes though.

maybe they could be slipped into jabbas palace too? it would be a cool cameo group.

I like the idea of the Bith band playing on those "intergalactic sports" screens.  In my Reborn edit, at the Coruscant nightclub I had added a few shots of the Bith/Rodian band from Jabba's Palace SE redux (since I wasn't planning to use them in ROTJ) and of course added new music.  I might try putting them on the screens.  That's an interesting suggestion.

I also added "Jango" hurriedly leaving the club after Zam gets her arm cut off.  As if he was supposed to be meeting her there.
