From Axia Euxine:
I don't know why Ady is against the idea, but there is nothing saying that someone can't revisit EMPIRE:R and add them themselves.
in regards to the Emperor's tower being located in the center of the DS gun, could someone maybe do some mock-ups (you would have to get rid of the center laser, naturally, unless you had it "flow around" the Emperor's tower when it fired)?
That could be an interesting play on the Emperor:
If the Sith don't believe in an afterlife, thus explaining their attachment or love for technology - either for power or to extend life, or the Emperor has been working on a way to blend the Jedi's power into the Sith's so he can have full control over the Force and become "immortal", it could stand that the Emperor has reached a point to where he can derive power from other energy sources, like the DS reactor and gun.
Being that Vader tosses him down the shaft, it would then make sense if his tower was dead center of the DS gun, as it is directly connected to the DS reactor (of course, this would mean that when the reactor is destroyed, an explosion or shock wave should have travelled up the elevator tube). Thus the Emperor could achieve a "high" not just from the deaths he causes from the spiritual shock-wave created from the end result, but from the initial blast eminating from the DS itself.
You know, maybe the Emperor's death (thrown down the shaft) could be used to help Lando and Co. when trying to destroy the reactor - as in: it is the Emperor being thrown down into the reactor that allows Lando and Co. to fire the shots necessary to destroy it (the reactor has its own shielding, which they DIDN'T know about [a safety measure the Emperor created just in case], but when the Emperor hits the reactor, the shield comes down, allowing Lando to fire on it).
In regards to the DS gunners, another idea could be to remove them, move the camera to the right so the "center" wall of the laser is on the left side of the screen (you would have to create more of the right-side of the barrel) and show the outer bands light up or do something in regards to the laser being projected down the barrel (maybe as the lights turn on within the barrel and move down the barrel the laser in the center grows in brightness/strength).
You could add a glass ceiling on the bottom tube with the lights on it to show the gunners working inside the station we see in the earlier scenes (you know, the one with the guy pulling the lever?)
In fact, maybe the gunner's station could get a make-over; the first DS was a prototype of sorts and would be kinda clunky - this one is more perfected, so maybe the gunners would have more displays and less "blinkies" (though I wouldn't add the Staples EASY button as the firing switch)
