wow, my comments really stirred something up with the PT crowd.

I dont think the PT should really be touched that much. If you dont like them then dont watch them let alone re-edit them. It sounds like your planning on sabotaging them Ady.

Obviously if Im saying that he shouldnt watch them if he doesnt like them then Im not going to watch his Revisit of the PT if he ends up sabotaging it based on his dislike for them. If he doesnt like them then why touch them? Its not that hard a concept to grasp I dont think. He just should stick to the OT and not watch the PT just as I wont watch his PT if he sabotages them based on his dislike for them.

Because he sees the potential there to make something decent, via hard work in editing.
"It's not that hard a concept to grasp"
Not at the expense of damaging the movie though. Ripping them apart as he puts it doesnt sound positive. Anyway I was over this 2 posts ago but some of you SW fans can really hold a grudge!! None of this is ESB related.

i just can't wait to get my hands on those PT moies so i can rip them to shreds.
gawd you depress me so much when you say things like that. I love ANHR and ESBR seems to be right on track as far as quality and vision goes. Yet your vision of the pequels seems to be the same as everyone elses and that means gutting them. With everything you've said that you are taking out of the prequels there doesnt seem to be enough material left for one movie, let alone three. Im just sad I wont have a revisited prequel trilogy to go along with the OTR.

I think some people have huge adult egos that when anything slapstick or childlike, their "I'm an ADULT and too sophisticated to enjoy that" ego prevents them from liking it.
Than being said, if you added up all the slapsticky moments in TPM they would likely take up less than 2 minutes screentime.
ok, where the hell does it say that i don't like the PT? i have NEVER stated that i hate it anywhere. In fact i have, on numerous occasions, stated that i do somewhat enjoy the PT but that they just don't fit with the feel of the OT and that they are substandard movies compared to the OT. This is a fact. The PT will NEVER be looked upon as classic movies the same way that the OT was. Adult egos preventing people from liking them? are you serious? i'm totally fed up with a minority trying to make excuses as to why the PT is hated so much. If this was supposed to be the reason why the PT is hated so much and why i think they are bad movies then why the hell am i enjoying the clone wars series so much? isn't that aimed at a younger audience? That threw that crappy reason right out the window didn't it? If i hated the PT so much then why would i be willing to sacrifice at least 6 years of my life to work on them?
There is good in them. they have only forgotten their true self
They are bad movies that really screwed up the Star Wars universe. Its as if they were made by two completely different people. the guy who made the PT would be one that had never watched the OT which caused him to make so many mistakes that it was embarrassing. then he goes back to the other guys movies and changes those so his fit in better even though they were made many years later. It has nothing to do with "adult egos" as you say. if that's the case then why do so many kids love the OT but think the PT is garbage? If i hated the PT so much as you say then why the hell would i have kept the "episode IV" title in ANH? surely i could have changed that to "Episode I" which would have eliminated the PT totally from Revisited.
The two trilogies just don't mesh together. It has nothing to do with visuals but the style in which the PT was edited, written and directed. In the OT the story and humour can appeal to both kids and adult alike. So why doesn't the PT? because the whole trilogy talks down to the audience. Why is everything explained so much all the time. Does he think the audience won't get it unless its completely spelt out at the expense of the movie? Just look at Ric Olie in TPM. he's almost a narrator. why does he have to explain everything that is going on when we can plainly see that?
"there's the blockade"... duh, yes we can see that
"That's it. Tatooine".. why bother saying that at all? we have been told a few times already that they are heading for Tatooine and now when he says this we have seen the planet. yeh so Luke may have explained that what we see was dagobah but it was part of a conversation with R2 and placed as a reply not an obvious and unneeded statement
Courscant. the entire planet is one big city. There's Chancellor Vallorum's shuttle. and look over there. Senator Palpatine is waiting for us.".... Is this one of those read along books or a movie. The visuals clearly show whats going on. talking down to the audience at the worse level here. Chancellor vallorum is introduced by palpatine so no need for Ric Olie to say who it is.
Its all this type of thing that ruins the movies for many people.
Now the humour is again totally different in the OT and the PT. OK ROTJ became a stepping stone for the low quality of humour we were to see in the PT. All the slapstick is too "in your face" and in many wrong places which ruins what is supposed to be a serious scene. Do we see any poop and fart jokes in the OT? No. Why? because the humour was of a higher calibre aimed at both kids and adults. i can almost see Lucas when he was writing it saying to himself.."lets make that creature fart" or " jar jar can step in a pile of crap. that will get a laugh for sure". Again this has nothing to do with so called "adult egos"
Now the main problem, apart from the acting & directing, is the editing. And this is what i meant by "ripping apart the PT". study the OT and the editing is tight. it never lingers on something longer than it should. now we get to the PT and so many times can you see where a scene or shot shout end but it lingers before the wipe or scene cut. You only have to check out the article about the "lost cut" of ANH to see just how different this movie could be if GL had edited the movie to his vision. You can see it HERE. You can also see GL's style when viewing the whole cantina scene that was from the Lost cut on the Behind the magic CD-ROM. The acting wasn't great in ANH but the editing turned what could have been a disaster into the great movie it became. You actually get a PT feel when you watch the lost cut footage or read the article descriptions of the editing. Can editing alone save these movies? no. but it can go a long way.
Now another thing that takes away the feel of the OT is the accents. In the OT the accents were British and American. Now in the PT we have all forms of accents for the creatures. its was as if they were too lazy to design a different sound for a creature that they went with over the top accents. It was obvious when they switched from studio filming in the UK to Australia and that changed the feel even more so. The Kiwi accent just didn't fit in the movies and that is nothing against that accent at all. You have all the clone troopers, who are supposed to be the link between the PT & the OT in that these were the PT's stormtroopers, speaking without an American accent. And please don't get me started on the abomination that was changing Boba Fetts voice in ESB just to try and fix the mess the PT created. Jango & Boba will have an American accent in the PT revisited, along with all the clone troopers but the troopers won't be all from Jango fett so will sound different, again helping the PT to tie in with the OT without having all the crappy EU stuff attempting to explain all this.this is nothing against other accents though. its all to do with what sounds right and what fits in. if i was just changing it because i have a problem with other accents then surely i would change all the accents to British?
If you don't want to watch my Revisited edits for the PT then no one is forcing you too. i certainly ain't going to lose any sleep if the PT lovers think i'm sabotaging their precious movies. GL has already done that for the rest of us. I got enough flack when i was doing ANH:R and then even more when it was released and still get it to this day. in the immortal words of Catherine Tate " Am i bovvered? Am i bovvered though? I ain't bovvered". Everyone has different tastes and i respect that but don't try to tell me that i'm sabotaging the PT by ripping it apart, even though you clearly knew nothing of what i have planned for those movies, or that i don't like them because of my adult ego when you know nothing about me or my viewing tastes and not expect me to defend these accusations, especially when you couldn't have pickled a worse time when i'm in so much agony i just want to rip something apart. lol
Now can we leave all this talk of the PT until i get round to Episode I please. there are already threads where you can discuss this. This is only for EPISODE V and anything that directly relates to this edit
One thing to remember though when making suggestions... Just because something is in the Pt doesn't mean that it should feature in the Revisited OT because there is a good chance that it will be omitted in the PT:R saga. as i have said before its the PT that should be changed to fit the OT and NOT the other way around
Now back on topic.....
I'm working on editing some of the BTS footage of the making of the wampa for the new clip. problem is that with my tooth gone and my voice changed somewhat with it missing i can't do the voice over i wanted to do so i may just leave out the BTS footage and just show the clip. But i did do some voice over while filming the clips so i may just use that. It will only be a short BTS and the full version including the filming of the new model and set elements will feature in full on the DVD-9 of ESB:R .I've got a bit of tweaking to do on the new wampa footage so it matched the original footage but so far it looks great. I've been able to articulate the mouth more than the original and also the face somewhat. But even though the sneak peak BTS footage may not make it to the final clip, you WILL get to see a brief glimpse of the new wampa. I've got to admit i'm pretty nervous about revealing this but i though it best to reveal it earlier just in case it doesn't work and i'm looking at it with too favourable eyes just because i built it. but anyway you'll see soon. hopefully it will be ready & online by tomorrow night and maybe even earlier
