Are there any Hayden lookalikes on this site? Maybe, we could put the good Hayden bits with the lookalike.

The good anikin died is what is implied. Or the good man who was Lukes father, is what I think Obiwan said. Consumed by Darth Vader.

I remember the date: September 21st 2004. The Trilogy arrived on DVD. As a 13 year old, I eargerly waited in line to get get my beautifuuly embossed silver widescreen box...fast forward to a few hours later. I felt like I had been gut punched. I didn't know that these were the SEs. I would have been happy with the 1997 SE-the versions I grew up on.  We were all cheated into buying these travesties called the Star Wars Trilogy.  I absolutely refuse to watch these, and I feel sorry for the guys at Lowry digital who did an amazing cleanup job. If only they could have been given the originals. Apart from Empire of Dreams, I have still been watching Star wars on pan and scan VHS (the agony!!) and whatever letterbox vhs I could get my hands on. Then we were stabbed in the back again with the GOUT dvds. We now had to buy the atrocious discs we were already tricked into buying in order to gain the originals ripped from a laserdisc! I for one refused. It took all of my effort to keep away, and this killed my interest in Star Wars for a long time.

The GOUT DVDs are the best way to see Star Wars-just throw out the first disc. I hope to find a good laserdisc player soon so that I can enjoy Star Wars the way I love it, whether it be original or 1997 SE.

2004's release is the one that should never have happened. It was a betrayal of cinematic art that turned what was once a masterpiece into a degraded schlock of bantha fodder.

The 2004 release was utterly disappointing. Even as soon as I got the boxset out of the plastic I was taken aback. Indiana Jones had just been released a few months prior as I recall and was in this really nice collectors case. Then I unwrap the star wars trilogy, the MOST WELL KNOWN AND RESPECTED TRILOGY OF MODERN CINEMA, only to find a folded cardboard box that looked like something a 12 yr old would put together. A millennium falcon here, throw in a couple TIE fighters. It was rediculous. I was flat out pissed.

I start watching A NEW HOPE and I get an even crappier Jabba then I has seen before in '97. First off that scene does not belong. It just reestablishes what Greedo already told us about five minutes ago. Secondly if it is forced in there then what happened to the digital Jabba from TPM. Did ILM lose it and have to come up with a new one?

Then I put in Empire. Palpatine bugged me, mostly because they changed the dialogue which flowed so well before but now seemed jarring. (not to mention it messed the flow of the music up) But what messed with me the most was replacing Boba's voice with Tumeara Morrison (SP?) Unneeded.

Finally I get to Jedi. The ending has begun. Luke burns the shell that has encased his father for decades as he stands alone in the woods. This is just as stunning a visual as when he watches the twin suns set. You can trully see how this young man has grown into a hero. Then as I'm immersed in movie magic I get a flash cut to Naboo where I hear and all-to-familiar voice shout WESA FREE!     Wesa Free? George are you serious? Now I'm already upset when I get the mother of all face slaps. Hayden (I couldn't act if my life depended on it) Christensen's head covering up Sabastian Shaw. Shaw, a man with enough talent to make me feel for his plight even thouigh he's barely on screen even for five minutes.

Prowse is the body of Darth Vader

Jones is the voice.

& Shaw is the heart. He IS Anakin SKywalker.

Christensen doesn't even deserve to watch ROTJ let alone be in it.

But it could have been worse.

We could have seen Jake Lloyd standing there.   YIPPIE!

"The only decision made here today was one of cowardice. They’ve placed the burden of this war on the shoulders of one man and thus appointed a dictator. No honest man pines for supreme authority. All good men know of their own fallibility." -what Mace Windu should have said in Episode II-

Immediate revulsion and disbelief. I printed out the news story I first read it in (I think it was CNN), and I complained to anybody who would listen.

I can't say it much better than that. Revulsion and disbelief were my first feelings as well. It was like some kind of internet photoshop spoof. That's when I knew that Lucas' mind had wandered off somewhere far, far away.

My first reaction to Hayden in Return of the Jedi?

here's a little reenactment.

I'm watching the thing with my sis. We get to the final scene with the ewok celebration.

I see Christensen.

ME: .... What?

SIS: 8-|

ME:......................That can't be real. ...........That ain't real.

SIS: Dude, that's Hayden Christensen!

ME: No way

SIS: That's him all right

ME: No freaking way

SIS: Rewind it and see it again.

I hit rewind on the dvd player

ME: 8( ....... That's not true....... that's impossible!!

SIS: Search your feelings, you know it to be true.

---------------------------------------

but seriously, it was puk-a-rific. Horrifuckus, like all other SE and revisionism crap.

No words can describe how much I despise this change. To me, the hayden insertion at the end of ROTJ is the worst, the crappiest, and the stupidest movie change/edit in the history of cinema. An abomination is an undertatement. To this day, just thinking about it gets me miffed! It, along with the treatment of the OOT is the height of Lucas's inexcusable actions to the fans. It's absolutely contemptible. Sebastian Shaw as Anakin's spirit all the way, forever.

Sorry about the small rant.

I was never a big Star Wars fan but when I first saw the new scene it just felt off. You got old Obi Wan and a very young Anakin.

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't crazy about Sebastian Shaw as a force ghost. I always thought that had Darth Vader not become a robot, he would still look like a tough old man.

If they were going to put in young Anakin, they should have took out Obi Wan and put in Padme. I know it makes even less sense, but visually, it's smoother.

I only gave in to the OOT side of the Force after the GOUT DVD's came along.  It'd been forever since I'd seen the OOT but watching it again, man, I get it now.

When I first heard about Hayden being tossed in to ROTJ, being the pro-SE/revision guy that I was, I didn't have a problem with the fact of Lucas doing it.  I thought the integration left much to be desired though.

Nowadays, I wish it'd been left alone.  It's a moment that Anakin has earned.  He was born as a slave.  Then he was "freed" and became a slave of the Jedi.  Then he was "freed" by Palpatine and became a slave of the Sith.  Through out his whole life, he's been a slave to his emotions.

Death was his only escape.  An act of love, heroism and self-sacrifice, for the first time acting on someone's behalf strictly for their good, was probably the one wholly decent thing he ever did his entire life.

Reunited with his mentors and surveying the hero and Jedi Knight his son has become, Anakin has every reason to feel pride and joy...

... all of which is completely thrown out the window when Hayden is thrown in there.  I dig the prequels and everything but Hayden simply has no business in ROTJ.  None.  Zero.

Worse, it's pretty obvious that Lucas didn't actually shoot him specifically for ROTJ.  Most likely, Lucas took some random footage of Hayden from the ROTS production, maybe Hayden between scenes, and then had someone badly paste him into ROTJ.

All in all, I wish Lucas had left Shaw where he belonged.  Old Man Anakin has earned that moment with Luke; Young Anakin hasn't... which was sort of the entire plot of the prequels.

All I really want is each film as it was originally seen and heard in theaters; no fixes, corrections, "improvements" or modifications necessary.

My old buddy Bruce called me last week after he had just seen the cut and paste job for the first time.

This is our conversation:

Me: "This is Mark"

Bruce: "Mark, what in the H-E-Double Hell has George done to my movie"

...

I talked him off the ledge and pointed him to some good sites like Zombie's one and Confused Matthew on the Youtube.  He's taken his first step into a larger world.

Is there a chance in hell that old Anakin would have even been replaced if a more famous actor had been used back then? Like, say, Peter O' Toole or Richard Harris or whatever. (answer: hell no, sorry Shaw. Stay classy, Lucasfilm)

Heres my take on the 2004 Special Editions i bought the Original Star Wars Trilogy on DVD the day they came out for the first time ever on DVD thinking they were the original theatrical versions however that was not the case Lucas changed the whole trilogy this is not the trilogy i grew up with adding Hayden Christensen in Return Of The Jedi was an insult to Sebastian Shaw but i do own the Original Versions on DVD the 2004 special edtions are great transfers and they look like new films but i wont watch them have the theatrical versions on dvd there for i like them better now we can watch Star Wars they way they were meant to be seen.

That may be the longest sentence on the entire forum.  Oh, and I agree with you.

It was horrific. I seriously couldn't believe me eyes. He looks so out of place it's just plain embarrassing...This was one of the most sinful changes to the already altered SE release of ROTJ.

Beyond just hating it, I just realized that they have Hayden wearing an outfit he was NEVER seen wearing in the prequels.  He's essentially wearing the same outfit as Obi-Wan, but Anakin only ever wore the full dark brown outfit.  So, it's another piece of continuity messed up.  I also contend that Anakin was never at peace with The Force until after he killed The Emperor in ROTJ.  Before his full Sith turn, he was always conflicted, angry, frustrated, arrogant, lustful, or asanine.  'At peace' is not how I'd ever describe Hayden's Anakin.  So, I don't see Lucas' argument that Anakin reverted to the form he had when he was truly at peace with The Force.  That doesn't happen until he's turned back FROM the Dark Side, not on his way down into it.
