i'm surprised no one has mentioned this yet. where has the window that Leia looks out of gone? surely there should be a window instead of a corridor there?

but thats going to be hell, if not impossible, to fix so i may just leave this

I was actually thinking this as I was reading down this page.  Is the window visable in the alternate take of this scene (the one Jambe used in Building Empire from the Empire of Dreams documentary)?

how about to solve the missing window clip we had a blind or shutter come down as she walks off?

Thats an awesome idea.

It proves why leia hasn't any light on her from front, and he closes the window from nervs and because she is upset.

nice one

And I hate to question you Ady, but are you sure that's where the window is:

I mean, the lighting must be all kinds of messed up since the shadows are on the back wall at the beginning, and now on the front or side?

EDIT: It looks like the corridor appeared along the back wall.  If you look at the shadows across the wall decor, they match perfectly with the establishing shot.  Maybe just insert that corridor in the first shot?

I overlayed the later shot over the establishing and confirmed:

I think I have a solution regarding the inconsistency of the roof:

If the green plants were coloured red it might be able to edit around the problem by suggesting that that is the same door Han comes through.

Thats hot!

Also and idea to color a bit the glass statue in the middle to look like the one in the Vader's scene.

yes i'm sure where the window should be logically but its not necessarily as it stands with the whole scene . if you turn that later shot into the same angle as the first one where han enters it creates a huge problem that chewie & Lando would both walk through a door that is at the side of the building which would lead directly to thin air and not to a vast corridor. the door behind han is actually the one that he originally entered from because you can see the plant by the side of the door but other door just wouldn't fit in its placement with what we see from the outside. neither the original or the SE matte helped with the confusion

Well, that ends that discussion pretty quickly. Lol. It's amazing what some good color correction can do to a scene. Thanks for the screencaps, Ady.

You hit it right in the head Siliconmaster482...Ady just solved that argument "with one swift stroke" hehe.

Gracious, this is confusing.  The plants show that this is supposed to be the same door, but the lighting is as if its against the back wall now, with Chewie entering camera left.  I'm going to try to map this all out...

Watch the Building Empire segment with this scene and try to figure it out!

Haha Ady just proved that we were so focused at "barking at the wrong tree" with the lightning issue that we missed this little bit by a mile! and what's being said about Chewie using a door that would lead to thin air is a common mistake in Star Wars I think....doors just open....like in the duel in the abyss....there's no architecture there to support that fight....

yeh its the outdoor matte that is throwing everything out.  I've checked all the interior layout and have been able to map where the door that chewie and lando is in each shot. as you can see there is no way such a vast corridor , in fact no corridor at all, could be outside the second door that lando & chewie enters based on the exterior views. another nightmare. lol

Upon further reflection, there are two sliding doors and one open corridor.  Here's the nearest I can figure out, judging by the location of Han and Leia sitting:

There are numerous problems: The lighting is different in every shot.  Chewie come out a sliding door which should open into thin air, while Lando comes down a DIFFERENT coridor that wasn't there previously in any shot.

Maybe add Lando's corridor to the previous shots, or have a sliding door open as Lando approaches?

EDIT: Looking closely at the items in the room instead of just guessing like an idiot, Ady is right, of course.  Still needs some kind of tweaking to explain the corridor from nowhere, and Han does seem to be looking where I have my arrow even though the items don't match in the alcove.  And the lighting change could be attributed to the rotation of the city, or time passing.  I still don't think there's a shot where the window is supposed to be.

Actually, the hallway IS there in the first Leia shot: it's the darker area on the right side of the plant in the red vase, which (what do you know) is directly behind Han's left shoulder (or would that be his right?).

The camera in the first Leia shot is in front of the room; the second one it is in the back and turned 90 degrees to the right (to face the right-side wall).

Edit - okay, you guys beat me to the punch.  Damn!  I was still on page 290 when the entire 291 page popped up!

Here are a few more suggestions on what to do to "fit in" the architecture:

(1) change the building the Leia window is in to make it bigger (or more like the original 1980 version)
(2) change the sky light to just lights: get rid of the blue and have lights extended above the ceiling framing (like how some houses have vaulted ceilings in their dens, but still have wood beams going across underneath).

NOTHING MAKES SENSE ANYMORE!!!!

And I simulposted with Ady with pretty much the same content.  Awesome.

Scrap the whole exterior and use a different matte altogether.

yeh it would mean scrapping the whole exterior scenes which i don't want to do.  there's also another issue when you see the corridor view that is outside the door that Lando & Chewie enters

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

as you can see there is another apartment entrance  next to leias and the window she is looking out of would actually be looking into the next door apartment. What a mess. i hate continuity issues...lol

so it needs a new matte that shows a smaller window and a matching one next to leias to help fix this issue to make the building look larger that it does at present

either that or just leave everything as it is which i'm more in favour of now.lol

Man, I almost simulposted that too!  So they walk up a few stairs into the hallway, walk along towards the camera, turn to their right, walk down some stairs past Han's corridor, go down a corridor and turn left, past the elevator window, go down some more stairs and meet up with Vader.  There are a lot of stairs.  And Han's corridor has stairs going down into it (meaning that since Lando walked down stairs before he walked past it, there should have been more stairs on his side, or no stairs on Han's).

There is a lot of building around the apartment, not at all like a tower as the mattes show.

EDIT: And what kind of apartment only has one open room?  Maybe its more like a lobby?  And I don't want to point out that Han and Lando switched sides sometime while they were walking.

Just make Leia's window smaller and in the side of a larger building, and replace the blue in the skylight with regular lights, turing it into a normal room as opposed to one on top of a building.

I'll try to whip something up tomorrow...

Vaderios:

Then again, some lighting could be added to the hallway, or some Ridley Scott lighting effects.

Not exactly sure what you mean by Ridley Scott lighting (lack of lighting? lol) but I think this is a great idea, add some sort of flickering light (or would that be too ghetto?) to give some realism (ex. in the hangar bays) when it's an obvious matte. There is a scene in ROTJ which I had in mind.

Ady you just proved what I said in my previous post and what DoubleOfive nailed just a moment ago. The mattes don't add up, in Star Wars that doesn't seem to be an issue of concern (continuity issues) otherwise just try to make spacial sense of the Falcon's interior and exterior....

Angel I would just like to say thank you for everything you do here, I've come to enjoy and look forward to your posts just as much as Ady's. I think your work is simply amazing, if I was half as good at photoshop as you were I'd be making a living off it, but you share with us your amazing work for free thank you.

I don't feel strange saying this because I'm sure I'm talking for everyone who reads or posts here, so again from us all thank you.

From what I've seen, the Vader dining room scene was set on about the same level as the roof lobby/apartment-whatever Han and Leia were staying in, notice those elevators in the still above on Leia's building on the left don't seem to even go to the top level. But yet we see one going up (SE) just before they enter the dining room.

Maybe the scale of the building can be changed to seem larger in comparison to the people? If that's the case I would not be having Cloud Cars fly close by because that messes up the scale and makes the building seem smaller, or I would either keep the cloud cars further away or make them smaller. And don't get me started on all those round windows in and just outside the dining room Where the heck are those from the outside of the building shown in the above still? I wouldn't want the new cloud city fly throughs cut out, because they add to the enviroment.

I realize it's going to be hard or impossible to get all the geography perfect, but just because we can't get perfect doesn't mean we can't make it better!
