But that's my point: they wouldn't be ordered to DESTROY the MF, but to herd it to the Executor. The whole idea is that Piett and the Executor crew are so determined NOT to screw up that they overkill the situation and as a result the TIEs that are herding the MF to the Executor get in the way of making a tractor beam lock. The TIEs would fire but wouldn't have to hit the Falcon (just shoot around it), much less hit it at full power.
