LOL, The Passion has a recut? Can't even imagine.
Well, maybe the problem is you don't live in a boring enough area. At the time I was living in a very small town where there was The Wal-Mart, and then a bunch of tiny little shops. At the time I lived there, I did most of my grocery shopping at a dollar store, because that was the only real alternative to Wal-Mart within 40 miles.
That little town had a regular full priced expensive movie theater with a whopping three screens. Then they had an old dilapidated theater with a single screen, which got movies a few weeks to a month before they came out on DVD and only charged $2 (and on Tuesdays they had a two tickets for the price of one thing). Even thought the theater was falling apart, their projector and sound equipment was pretty decent.
It was kind of funny, because they used old reel projectors so during each of the LOTR moves they had an intermission to change reels. They even had an "Intermission" card that popped up on the big screen. It was one of those old theaters that had the opera house sort of design to them, fancy pillars, statues of naked under aged angels carved everywhere, weird devil head thingy above the center of the screen, etcs. All that and the intermission thing really gave it a unique experience.
I remember seeing ads for tickets for the big three movie in a row marathon thing at the time ROTK came out. Those took place in select theaters, which always seemed to be in the bigger cities.
