Long live YIYFLBC!!!! Whooohooo!

One of the most useful threads ever! Not sure how we managed over a whole year without it.

I am extremely tired, but I don't feel like sleeping since I don't have to work tomorrow, so as a result I am pondering many of the mysteries of the world.

And one that's really bugging me at the moment is this: I was just thinking about The Lord of the Rings movies, and there is a rather interesting scene where Gandalf and Bilbo are smoking pipeweed, and they both look a bit spacey, overly happy and mellow, etc. Yet, in the books Tolkien makes it perfectly clear that pipeweed is tobacco. In fact, I think it is exclusively referred to as tobacco in The Hobbit.

So why does Hollywood muck around with stuff like this? Surely by tabacco he means something other than tobacco. wink, wink. Does Hollywood have to ruin everything? (Sorry, been reading some Alan Moore interviews, and besides being a total freaky ass hippy that all freaky ass hippies ought to aspire to be like, this guy fucking hates Hollywood, and I think it has temporarily rubbed off on me.

No, Tolkien was a long time pipe tobacco smoker, and I have no doubt he was always refering to tabacco.
