The People VS George Lucas teaser trailer — Page 2

Well, people will have to recreate the OOT from the GOUT, sad to say. I mean, Lucas just ported the 93 version without any remastering, right?

Well, even though the Indy trilogy is rumored for a BD release this year, I'm now starting to wonder whether it'll be a few years before we see Star Wars. The Live-Action show will apparently not be on the air until 2012, which - being the 35th anniversary (not the roundest of numbers, but it works) - might make sense. Heh, that quicktime trailer for the Alien: Director's Cut saying "24 years ago" and the ROTS commercial "for 28 years, the Star Wars saga has blah blah blah" come to mind. Anyway, if they really are going to release all six movies in 3D cinema beforehand, I doubt they can get all of them done by next year. I don't think there are enough digital projectors in the cinemas anyway. Didn't McCallum say they were waiting until there were like 10,000? It might make sense to let the clone wars show run its course in the meantime, and then have a huge year for the 35th anniversary with the 3D re-release, the blu-ray and the live-action show.

What I seriously think we should do is agree on what EXACTLY we want, by which I mean lets all come to an agreement on what should be in the blu-ray set. I guess what this basically translates into is: someone should draft a new petition. If we can all agree on an exact petition, we can then all send our videos to the people making this documentary. Maybe we could even get in contact with them and ask if they could please, please, please emphasize in the doc that this matter of the OOT is a pretty large part of why we're so frustrated with the guy.

Do you really think the petition is what got us the GOUT? I don't. Obviously it said there was a decent sized demand for it, but I don't for a second believe that is what got it for us.

Remember back when LFL said they are waiting for Episode III to come out before releasing the others on DVD, so they could all be released in order? Then, if I remember correctly, I read that the vast amount of bootlegging encouraged them to release it sooner.

I think we got the GOUT because it is what we already had, it is what we were still bootlegging, so they gave it to us legally and they gave it to us in the exact same quality we already had it in. Same print and everything. Only professionally done, and stamped onto a duel layer disc. You've got to remember, these boards are open to the public, anybody in the world with access to the internet can read everyword we have ever wrote on here. I have a hard time convincing myself that there are not any LFL people who check us out every now and then. I think they knew about our policies, that if it is released officially the jig is up and we are to get the real thing. Take a look around, the GOUT put a total and complete end to OT preservation.

No, that's not what I meant and no, I don't think for even a second that the petition is what got us the GOUT. Sorry for not being clearer.

I think we could just have a sticky with the documentary email link, reminding people here to tell them what we still want. Everyone can just send them something simple that says "we want the original versions of Star Wars to be sold at a quality equal to:" and then list the 5 lamest older movies you can think of that have normal current anamorphic transfers. Maybe it's pointless, but maybe it would nicely illustrate our beef if the doc has a scene where the Star Wars dvd and the TEEN WOLF dvd appear side by side and the question is asked "good enough for this...but not this?"

Oh, your post was very clear, I think I wasn't clear myself. Sorry about that.

I was not necessarily thinking you meant that the petition is what got us the GOUT, but you were saying we should make a petition of exactly what we want in the blu-ray release. I meant to say I don't think it will do any good, even if we would have specified "newly remastered" and "anamorphic widescreen" I still think we would have got what we got. There was a lot of talk around here after the GOUT was released of how we screwed up the petition by not being more specific. I am sure it would not have made any difference.

If there is going to be a blu-ray release, I cannot imagine us having any influence on it. We are the scum of the SW fan community after all.

C3PX probably is right and a new petition wouldn't make a bit of difference in the grand scheme of "Star Wars on blu-ray" being all that's really necessary for people to go out and buy it.

However, I am hoping that Lucas - seeing the kind of treatment some of these catalog titles have been getting for their BD debuts - ends up doing the right thing. I think he could AT THE VERY LEAST manage to make each of the original movies a two-disc set with the (hopefully final) newest cut on the first disc and a remastered original cut on the second. I really don't think that's too much to ask and in fact at this point I think it would be silly not to include it.

Unless of course he thinks the money he'll be saving by not having to stamp out that second disc will outway the money he'll be making from all the OOT fans who will only be interested if the original version is included. Otherwise, omitting the OOT makes no sense.

Much of it comes down, I think, to Lucas being jealous of the utter greatness that was Kirshner.

Is that kind of a fluke though?  Because Never Say Never again was utter shit.

The only movie by Kershner i have seen that was good was The Empire Strikes Back.   So i believe it was collaboration more than anything.  You see you had Lucas when he was actually still a good filmaker, Kasden when he still could write, Kersh when he could still direct and Kurtz as the producer.

Plus some of the best work of the Old ILM, John Williams Score, the actors gave good performances.  Some of the best Cinematography in the saga.  They actually put out a sequel that was better than the first film. Something that rarely happens in film.

And Lucas is a guy who had business sense in spades when he was a young man, which means he has the liberty to take it or leave it presently with no ill outcome.

It was collaborative, but you can't overstate the importance of Kershner in making ESB what it is, considering he was the director.

"Don't f*ck with a Jedi Master, son!"

All in all it seems hard to take a lot of these people seriously. I mean how can we trust that certain individuals don't have ulterior motives here? Isn't there bad blood between George and people like Kurtz?

I'm sure this wont get play at my local theatre [They wouldn't even screen Pan's Labyrinth cuz it's in spanish :(] But I'm sure I'll sit down and take a look at it at some point. I honestly hope it turns out well [and well informed].

Really, I think the nail has been struck on it's proverbial head. Strong collaboration made the best Star Warses.

In "Star Wars" you have the collaboration of young excited Lucas directing, an amazing cast, good writing (and script polishing), and solid editing (the then Mrs. Lucas).

"Empire" has Kershner directing (which from a filmmaking point of view is inarguably the most sophisitaced of the OT, as well as getting the best character performances out of the actors), Lucas's best story, great music, and perhaps the best puppet-performance ever captured on film.

Well, at least it's fun and you don't fall asleep after the opening sequence like 80% of the "real" Bond movies!

Never Say Never Again, fun??? You must have seen a different version of the film than I have, or you are using a definition of "fun" of which I was previously unaware of. I had nightmares for weeks after seeing that travesty, kept dreaming Sean Connery's face was falling.

I still think the "I'm not too old for this shit" mood of NSNA is fun to watch. It don't take itself seriously. That's why so many Bond fans don't like this movie I believe (like most of them don't like much R.Moore humor). I am not a real Bond fan (Casino Royal was quite good though) so maybe it is why I like this one!

But... I am french, and very often in the late 70's early 80's the guys who were doing the french voices made crazy stuffs  with the dialogues (most of the time some welcome humor, adding lines when the actors turn their back to the camera, etc... but always with respect of the movies mood) . Star Wars OT in french is almost better than with the real actors voices. I suspect NSNA had a good "french treatment" on the voices.

Now the french versions are quickly and poorly done these days. The prequels with french dialogues are even worse than with the original voices (if you can ever imagine such a thing).

NSNA is one of only two Bond movies I own (the other being From Russia With Love).  I've only watched it once, I was only 14 at the time, and I didn't realize that it was directed by Kershner, but I seem to remember enjoying it.  I should probably watch it again to find out... but I don't feel like it right now.  Maybe later.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

I have the DVD of NSNA too, and I like the film. I saw it in the theater when it came out, & I saw Octopussy in the theater that same year.

I think NSNA is a fun movie, and better than some of the lesser Moore films (like Moonraker).
