Bingowings: Yes, I've got those tapes from the Executor set somewhere too. The simple lightsaber designs were certainly nicer than the new 'paintings' on the individual versions (I guess it was around this time that LFL decided they needed to reinvent the wheel for every goddamn release!)

No idea if that set is worth anything, though as an aside the documentaries - MOSW, SPFX, CC and FSTJ - look far better on those PAL tapes than anywhere else I've seen them...

Ziz: Unfortunately the other UK rental tapes were a lot less distinctive:

I don't even have these tapes any more, though I doubt they're rare if anyone was inclined to rewShork them...

Shit, this brings back some merories. I have all these vhs tapes. I paid (well I say I paid, my mother really) £56 for ESB bak in 84 when it was first released. Man I wathched that tape to death. Still have them, and all the other vhs released tapes too. I think I own the trilogy including dvd's about 8 times. What a mug!!! ha

And this is the Executor box set covers I modified for DVD

I love those, what sabres would you put on a prequel set?

Well, one would be purple, that's a given.  The other two...?

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

Revenge of the Sith would have to be red- Attack of the Clones purple for Windu, and Phantom Menace... Blue again?

Author

The real problem is that in the prequels the Sith got the most distinctive sabres, when you think TPM Maul's double-ender (f'nah-f'nah) springs to mind, Dooku has the bendy one (Pfhhph!) and Sidious has the black shiny one with the gold trim and the sting in it's tail (da-dum-pish!).

I thought that the phantom menace was more Qui Gon's movie so I would make it green

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Could make a little more of the hands holding the sabre too, i.e. a short green one (oof) held by Yoda claws...

I thought it'd be cool to see Vader's hands holding up the red saber on the ESB DVD cover.

"Fuck you. All the star wars movies were excellent. none of them sucked. Also, revenge of the sith is the best."

I'd have to see a larger pic of the covers to tell for sure.

Here's the last phase of my cover design I showed:
http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/9969/jedidvdze3.th.jpg

I have the fronts designed for each movie now.

The Unaltered Originals:

The Prequels:

http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/383/previewprequels.jpg

The Originals:

I wanted the logo a little bigger, so I referenced the Polish cover for some of the novelizations, which had a similar placement. I went against my original decision to leave the episode number off the front (although I still emphasize the movie's title). The back, meanwhile, is being completely revamped to include features and credits and stuff.

The art on the "classic" Empire and Jedi discs are still in progress, because they're being edited from, like, five sources each. I'll patch up some of the seams later.

How's it looking?

I like these a lot, my only suggestions at would be to remove the 'star wars' title from the 'classic' Empire and Jedi covers, just because I think it will look better, also possibly change the Sith logo to reflect the Jedi logo a bit more.

A quick mockup I did compared with yours:

This way it uses the same size 'of the' text as Jedi and moves the bottom line up to the same level, again I just think it looks better but I could be wrong andI know it will throw out teh proportions compared with the other logos.

Here is the full set. Their pretty much done now im going over them to check the spelling in the cast. I really like them because they focus on drew struzan's artwork. and the backs each show a lightsaber duel. like a new hopes got obi and vader in front of the falcon and luke in bespin etc. If you like them ill post the full quality dvd sleeves. the image below was slapped together but its still ok. ENJOY AND LEAVE FEEDBACK

I like those. However, the "Star Wars" logo seems stretched on III, V, and VI. It looks normal on I and IV.

I think your display is set too dark: the top of the OT covers aren't black, and I can see where you painted black on the ROTS cover (top right) because you didn't get it all.

Well I said i was still tweaking them. some look stretched because i slapped it together. that is not what they will look like on the final release. keep up the feedback. I WILL BRIGHTEN MY DISPLAY ALOT THANKS
