In real life it would happen so fast so you wouldnt be able to catch it all. It makes rewatching it so much more fun!

Yeah, but were watching a movie here not reality TV.

I think it's perfectly fine.

It could be improved. But this all depends on Ady, If he wants to change it up great, if he doesn't it's no big deal.

I like the scene, everything looks very good. Very natural. However, I don't like the "lightning" effect on the ion cannon. It makes it pretty obvious what software you used and distracts from the scene.

Only if you know what software was being used (most people wouldn't), I'm sure the guys who work in the industry are incredible jades when it comes to viewing special effects shots but the majority of the paying audiences wouldn't give a monkey's as long as it looked good at helped propel the story.

Yeah, I've an amateur interest in graphic design and typography. Just like it's obvious that someone used Powerpoint to make his presentation slides, if someone uses a Pages template for a poster it distracts me. If I recognise a typeface I know that instantly colours my opinion of a work — Arial = lazy and uneducated, Trajan = fashionable/cliché, Gill Sans = British (don't ask me to explain that one), Optima = subtly stylish, Gotham = trendy, etc.

After using Warner Bros./Lucasfilm/Fox/Universal/BBC's various sound libraries for my editing classes, I can't tell you how many times I watch a movie or TV show and hear sounds I've used in my student projects.  It took me out of it at first, but I'm so used to it now I think it's kind of cool, like "Hey!  They used the same bone-crunching sound in 'Watchmen' that I used in my arrest scene for my Production 2 final!  That's kind of bad-ass!"

Things like that are just a fact of life when you get more involved in the process.

I noticed something, when we 1st see the destroyer shoot towards Hoth you can see some squares and some odd shadow on the command bridge, copy paste!?

Perhaps this will be smoothed out?

I didnt post this to bitch and moan, I love what has been done so far...and I am sure it will be delt with, after all it is Adywan we are talking about. :D

Yeah, he said that this was an unfinished/rough video, but it's good to point things out anyway. Look how many suggestions he has used already!

That's because Gill Sans is the BBC font, and Twinings Tea uses it too.

And yeah. Arial is nup. Use Helvetica instead.

What does the typeface University Roman tell about a guy??

Do you mean USC Roman or Berkeley Roman?

If you mean just plain University Roman (a very nasty letroset advertising typeface from 1972 designed by Bruce Rogers, the better half once knew him) I'd say you are the type of person who likes really tacky romantic novels or low price chocolate selection boxes (Terry's All Gold or Milk Tray).

Now that Ion Cannon sequence was simply beautiful!  But I'm feeling a bit hyper today...

Maybe add... a few TIE fighters coming from the star destroyers and a bit more battle from the X-Wings and Transport, possibly even a bit of damage on that transport as well.  Make it seem like the Imperials really do want the rebels.

That would make everything so much more exciting than it already is :D

the shots are all very quick and adding too many elements into them would turn them into a mess.

The X-wing being blown up does look just a tad dodgy.

After watching the clip a few more times, I think I know why; it's because there are no evasive maneuvers or any sort of reaction to being shot at -- the X-wings just fly in a straight (or slightly curving) line and there's no return fire or anything (I know that there's not much point in shooting at a Star Destroyer if you're in an X-wing, but it still looks odd).

Otherwise, it looks really, really good.

As you said any returning fire would be pointless. as it stands at the moment the xwing is racing to get in front of the transport so would take a straight line but also  adding any manoeuvres in such a quick shot wouldn't really be noticeable anyway.

Just watched the new clip ady, brilliant Job! My only concern is that the X-wing that gets destroyed; I had to play it a couple of times to catch it. The problem is that the x-wing and it's destruction is somewhat hidden amongst all the ion cannon and star destroyer fire, and it doesn't help being so close to the rebel transport ship either which is titanic in comparison. I showed it to a couple of people an they didn't catch it at first either.

Its actually the kind of thing i am going for with revisited. many of the additions you won't notice on first viewing. There is a tendency in many films that all the fx seem to be in your face when it doesn't need to be. i always loved watching the OT and noticing different things upon each viewing which is something that the PT seemed to be lacking.

So right after the generator is destroyed, when Han and Leia are running through the passage ways to the millenium falcon shouldnt the hallway lights not work? Or are we assuming that this generator was only for the shields protecting the base?

the generator is the shield generator only so not the bases main power supply. we do see the lights flickering so i don't think anything needs to be done here.

Ok, i've just got to call you on this one. lol. So what software or plugin did i use for this effect then? and don't just say after effects because i clearly stated that i used this program for many of the fx shots from the start.

Ok a few updates...

The fur for the wampa came the other day. I was so excited to be able to start work on the new puppet but that soon changed when i opened the package. The fur looked perfect in both the description and the photos on ebay. this wasn't the case though. It was supposed to be white fur but instead it turned out to be white with deep black roots, so totally unusable. gutted. Luckily the seller refunded all of my money without question. I've ordered some more and i'm hoping that this batch is going to be ok. I can't believe just how difficult it is to find white fur with a decent pile length and that even looks like real fur. I'm working on the design at the moment. I will be going for something between the original first seen wampa and the SE one. After seeing some close up pics of the SE wampa I'm surprised that the face was very close to the original puppet but that it looked so different in the movie. The main differences between the two are the head shape. the original has a short brow and flatter skull whereas the SE wampa has a larger skull which was possibly due to accommodating the actor inside the suit. Plus the original puppet had a very short neck

I'll post a sketch of the new design once i have completed it

Woah. Nice comparison shots of the wampa suits. Also, it's always nice when you take the time to clarify on everyone's posts. Thanks for the effort. :) Hope the next batch of fur turns out better.

For the head and claws I'd go for theatrical wig and beard hair suppliers (if I could go back in time to the early nineties I'd know just the place to get it too...darn).

The original puppet looks more like a shaggy misshaped human than a polar bear and the face is more hairy than furry, you might be able to massacre several out of season Santa wigs and beards, (a bit of spirit gum, morticians wax and razor blades can do wonders).

For the body, most of these suppliers are outside the UK but they might help.

if it's horns you are after this might help too.

They sell products made from horn but I'm sure if you contacted them they could get you some untouched samples.

I just noticed something about the interior of the SD shot. The two officers standing that much apart... dunno if that really works. Somehow the way they stand just feels like they should stand closer together. you know people restrain their body movements more, the closer they get to others. I am aware that in the military this is standard protocol, but something about those two officers just doesn't feel right yet. What was your reason for putting them further apart?

I've been watching some of your updates on youtube and I'm pretty impressed as usual. And I got to see the entire Star Wars Revisited on youtube. It was interesting seeing my name in the credits, even though I don't remember giving any suggestions for that edit.

If you do the same thing with Empire, do you want our real names?

Adywan, I'm just grateful that you didn't choose the original 'cave lunge' suit design route, in the end....  ;)

(I'm surprised how different that previous shot of the 'SE' head seems to look in the additional footage, too)

The downwards-pointing, 'gnarly' horns are the only thing I really liked about that 'SE' version personally, but would like to see them added to something resembling the original 'puppet' design.

Can't wait to see whatever you come up with eventually, and will look forward to that sketch!

I seem to remember reading somewhere, that Adywan added the names of whoever had commented in the ANH:R thread, by the time of it's release, regardless of whether you actually suggested any ideas or not.

I myself only found out that Adywan had done this amazing work to my all-time favourite movie, JUST AFTER it was finalised....and so missed out on proposing a suggestion or two.

If you've only watched it on YouTube (in the wrong 'ratio aspect' I seem to remember someone saying), wait till you actually see it in all it's DVD glory, with it's terrific accompanying sound!  PM me if you have trouble sourcing it yourself.

Ady, I'm happy that you're taking the best of both Wampas to create the ultimate Wampa prop.

I'm curious as to what aspects people like from each design. I never really disliked either Wampa. I have to say that I did like the horns, claws, and non-flat head of the SE Wampa, but for some reason it just looks more fake than the original IMO. But it never posed as a huge problem for me.

Here's how things currrently stand at the moment between the looks.  The bottom shot shows an early (abandoned) version that tied things together a little better.

I wonder if the slightly 'lop-sided' ears of the 'puppet' version will be part of Ady's version or not?

I always liked them, myself.  :)

By the way, I'm still hoping someone will be able to PM me with a step-by-step of how I can link comments/shots from 'more-than-one' previous posts into a single post.  Thanks.
