I've just watched the Purist Edition, and this is by far THE version of reference I will have from now on :P

I haven't the means to burn the DVD-9 version so I've had to content myself with the DVD-5 version.

Just getting the DVD-9 version is difficult.

Bingowings - if you need an NTSC DVD-9, send me a PM.

Same for me. The music edits and the dialogue changes in Ben's hut didn't work for me, so I'm glad this version was released.

The only difference between -5 and -9 is a couple of bonus features and the better video quality on the 9 for super-size TV's.  If your set is under 50", the video quality difference is negligble.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

Or if you're a film major, like myself. ;) I can spot quality differences from a mile away. Everyone else should be fine though.

Seconded.  I tend to buy TV show DVDs, rip them to mp4 files on my external hard drive, then sell the DVDs back to Reckless Records or FYE.  I started using the iPod preset, but could always notice compression errors.  So now, to avoid that, I use an insanely high bitrate that ends up making an 44-minute episode around 1.5 gigs.  That's a lot of HD space for 4 seasons of BSG and Lost, 9 seasons of The X Files, 2 seasons of Dexter, 3 of It's Always Sunny, 5 of Futurama, 7 of The Simpsons ... the list goes on (and my free space shrinks).  It's worth it to me, though.  Which is why it really bugs me that most fan edits are only available in overly-compressed DVD-5 copies, and why I'm very happy that Ady takes us sharp-eyed folk into account.

Good luck. It's a lot of fun, but can take a while to gain speed depending on the college/university.

Haha. I do similar stuff, but I have to balance hard drive space with quality. I am definitely glad that Ady takes the time to give us the best quality options. I love Magfan's edits, but the quality always makes me want to cry. Revisited is beautiful all around.

Out of curiosity (and sorry to go even further off topic) - Siliconmaster and JediMasterFisher, what film school(s) are you/will you be attending?  I'm an editing student at Columbia College Chicago, I was just wondering if either of you might be going here as well.

^Lol. It would be awesome if we happened to be going to the same school, but alas it is not so. I'm going to Fairleigh Dickinson University in NJ, which has a mixed liberal arts/film program. I wanted a good balance of both. As a result, the hard core film classes don't really gear up for a year or two, although FDU incorporates them earlier than most do.

And out of guilt for offtopicness, yay Revisited. Ok, guilt gone. :P

I am bummed out right now.

I just tried watching my burned copy of SW AnH revisited on my Ps3 and got a 80029941 error message.

What is weird is I could swear it played before for me as I've had the Ps3 for a while now. I tried burning a new DvD and got the same message. It always worked great on my old ancient DvD player.....so much for "advanced technology".

Is my only choice to try to convert the info on the disc into an avi file?

I have a 3200 kbps H.264 mp4 ripped from the NTSC DVD-9 that I watch in my PS3, and (to me) it's indistinguishable from the DVD.  Granted, 3200 kbps is a bit high of a bitrate for standard-def H.264 (most of my TV shows are 2000-2500 kbps and they look just as good), but I didn't want to take the chance with SW:R.

It could also be the media you burned it with.  I recommend Verbatim - never had a problem with those, and they're the only DL media I've ever had that works.

Hmmm....Verbatim?

Okay thanks.....

(forgive me I havn't burned a dvd basically since AnHR came out, lol)

So did anyone know that the "flipper" was actually originally in there.

Huh. That's interesting -- while I think the way this turned out was for the best, it's interesting to see that GL meant for it to be the flipper from the beginning, as opposed to making what we decided was a continuity error by oversight. Maybe he came to the same conclusion we did, that the flipper would just feel too out of place? In any case, thanks for sharing!

Yup, since about 1997.  I like the flipper better, but it would have been a problem to hold onto the blaster.

Wait, are you saying that this was changed for the SE, and it was the flipper in the OT? I don't have my DVDs here at work to check, but I'm pretty sure it was the hand all along . . .

No.  That is when the rough cut scene was released on the Behind the Magic CD-ROM.  Or maybe it was '98.  Feels like ancient history, when ever it was.

Behind the Magic is one of the coolest things they have ever released! I was going to install my copy again not too long ago, but the disc wasn't in the box. I know it's around somewhere, but...where?! :(

Oh, gotcha. It was 1998, according to Wikipedia. I remember really wanting it back in the day, but I didn't have the money for it, and I don't think my computer was prepared to handle the minimum requirements at the time. :-)

Wasn't there a project to try to extract and preserve everything and put it out on DVD here, especially since newer systems wouldn't play it right? I'd love to have a copy of that if it ever came to fruition.

Take care,
