Not that I'm trying to bug anyone (especially now that I realize what goes into an edit) but is anyone else still planning on doing an edit at some point? Or are we putting all of our sankara stones in my inexperienced basket? :)

I still plan on doing something

Maybe some clever CG work can make Spalko kill more people... or do it in a more, um, evil manner?

I just noticed that this movie won the Razzie this year for worst sequel.

Just a quick update --

I finally got the 6 audio tracks working properly so I can finally start editing the audio and getting this thing finished!  Once I do that, I'll put in Marion's gunshot edit into the cemetery scene.

Just to get a head start --

Has anyone here tried to take the "Part time" and "Not as easy as it used to be" audio from the trailers and put them into the film?

Is there any way to change the font on the title at the beginning? When it says "Indiana Jones and the...", it's in the Last Crusade format, and it looks so bland! Is there any way to have the title posted up like in Temple of Doom? Big red, yellow, and orange letters?

Also, if you're thinking of putting music from the originals, the music that plays after Belloq says, "Do as you will" in Raiders would play really well as Indy asks, "What is this thing?" in KOTCS. It'd be a nice transition to him and Mutt walking up the steps.

Or maybe just "Kingdom of the Cristal Skull" without "Indiana Jones and the..."

I remember really liking the 'Indiana Jones' logo appearing in 'Temple of Doom'.  I love interesting movie-typefaces, and wish it been used for ALL of them!

By the way, I really wish this latest entry had been less of a mouthful, and been simply called either 'Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull' OR 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of Skulls', to make it 'snappier' like the other 3 titles....

I do wish the movie was called simply "Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull" but I want my edit to be totally seamless and having a different title on the movie than I have on the DVD case, etc. would remind me of all the crappy parts I edited out. I want those long gone from my memory. :)

IJATKOTCS is a mouthful though...

I've always liked "Indiana Jones and the City of Gods"...

I'd have been happy with that one too, as it's just as 'snappy', and certainly fitted just as well, although I like this variation better -

'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of Gods'

Looking good. It will be a hell of a lot of work to paint out the exisiting title though. If we had a clean version of this shot I'd even have the car go in front of the text, just like Willy in TOD...

I understand that you want to keep "Indiana Jones and the..." for continuity. No problem, it's your edit.

My guess by naming it just "Kingdom of the cristal Skull" is that it would be more like "Raiders of the lost Ark", before Lucas renamed it "Indiana jones and the raiders of the lost ark" on the cover of the DVD.

It would be a way to tell the audience: this edit try to stay as far from Lucas bullshits as possible.

Damn Laser. Thats nice as hell. Though I do like the title, I just have to keep it KOTCS unfortunately.

TMBTM, point well taken and anything I can do to make this more like Raiders I'm up for, so I'd consider it. Of course, I have no clue at all how to even begin to do that technically. I'm surprised I've even managed this much of an edit.

BTW, a little progress report: The audio is coming along SLLLOOOWWWLLLYYY but surely. My 6 audio tracks are not as neatly seperated as I'd hoped, so I'm having to use some tracks from the Soundtrack CD to cover certain edits. So fae so good though. Seamless. Of course I AM only to the shotgun shells in the warehouse part... It's fun though and looking good.

Nice pic Laser (although I still prefer the 'City of Gods' title myself - 'city' is a lot less cumbersome than 'kingdom', in my opinion).

I always wanted to see the title-cards unified for all the Indy films - the Raiders and Last Crusade title-cards did look similar, but of course the TOD one broke that style. So I'm either way on changing the title-card text - at present, it harks back to Last Crusade, which harked back to Raiders, so there is unity there. But also, if the style was changed to the TOD text, it may probably balance the title-cards out more, and make TOD's title-card seem less random (when compared to the others in the series at least; I for one did like that typical Indy font). Also, a very nice idea on having the car appear infront of the text, ala Willy in TOD - just how feasable it would be, of course, is a different matter.

And looking forward to your cut of this film jones1899! Resurrecting some old Indy themes for certain sequences of the film could be very effective in tying KOTCS to the OT.

I guess the title won't be changed that easily anyway, as it's virtually impossible to paint out the original text.

It's not that hard, you just have to do it frame by frame. The title's not on screen that long anyway.

It can be done, someone just has to be willing to do it.

Well, maybe I'll try. It's "only" 110 frames... but the car and people getting covered by text? Nightmare to restore those parts!

Thanks Topdawg,

I'm trying my best on it and enjoying every confusing, difficult second of it :)

I just want it to be 100% seamless. No edit is worth it (even to cut the WORST part of the film) if you can tell it was edited. So far, at least, I haven't run into that save for the few digital changes that only someone like Laser is capable of.

If you're thinking of changing the title at all, I think "Indiana Jones and the City of Gods" is nice. I've gotten used to the title now, but it does foreshadow how much of a stitch-job the movie is, i.e. Lucas liked "Kingdom", Spielberg and Koepp wanted "Crystal Skulls".

Whatever you make the title, please at least keep "Indiana Jones..." at the beginning. Raiders is a standalone film, it would just look weird if after two sequels, the format went back.

Another gripe: in Jones's introductory shot, I thought the music was a little subdued. In general, the scores for the three movies immerse me all the way through, even on the 1,000th viewing.

Remember his introduction in The Last Crusade? Williams' score was way more trumphant. Does anyone else think that would fit better?

Laserschwert, nice work on that mocked-up 'City of Gods' title variation!  I wasn't expecting that, lol.

Seeing the 'Indiana Jones' logo superimposed over that screenshot makes me realise how much I wish it had been used in the actual movie itself....

Just for the record, out of the various shorter title possibilities, my personal favourite by far is -

'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of Skulls'

(Just because I remember always thinking that anything to do with 'skulls' was cool, when I was a boy!)

Unfortunately, I also remember thinking that it was a mistake to preface it with 'Crystal' in the title in the first place, as this gave away just a little too much information at the time....  I'd have preferred that this particular detail had been kept as an intriguing reveal during the movie, because most people would have naturally thought that the shorter title above was alluding to 'Human' skulls....

jones1899, we're rooting for you!  And I commend the fact that you're going for gold, where a 'seamless' edit is concerned.

Thanks Imperial. I appreciate it. Tomorrow night I'm planning on hitting it HARD. Looking forward to it.

As for the title, I've decided I like the Indy logo look better as well, but I still can't bring myself to change the title. As I said it would just constantly remind me that this IS an edited version of the movie and Iwant to forget the original completely. But I think seeing the title in the Indy font would better set the tone for the movie that follows.

It depends what is your goal with this fanedit.

If I'd want to have the best title for my vision of the movie I'd call it "Kingdom of the crystal skull", or maybe find another title without "Indiana Jones" in it. "Kingdom of Skulls" is quite good indeed. The audience will learn soon enough about the crystal thing.

To me a fanedit is more or less always a standalone project. No matter how you try to be as close as the other movies of a series, at the end it will be your vision. That's why I personaly would have no problem to cut "Indiana Jones and the..." out. Because, as I said, it would be way to tell the audience: this is my vision.

But, once again, if the goal is really to be as close as the others (meaning that all the cuts and decisions are made with the other movies as references, and not only the taste of the editor...) then, yes, keeping "Indiana Jones and the..." would be a good choice.
