I'm not quite sure what I think of the addition of Hayden, though I fully understand why Hayden was added.  I mean, the thought that Anakin 'died' when he turned to the dark side makes alot of sense to me.  At the same time, the shots of Shaw have sentimental value in my mind... and they arent a reused screen test.

I don't think Shaw or Hayden need to morph either way.  Neither one of them will be recognizable to Luke anyway and the audience should assume he aged as opposed to wondering why Anakin got to keep his young body in the afterlife and Obi-wan has to be old.

Unless everyone morphs from their old versions to their Episode III versions.  That sounds like something Lucas would have done, and I'm honestly surprised he didn't.

Again, I think adding Qui-Gon is adding things for the sake of adding them.  If LUCAS showed enough restraint not to do it, I think we should also.

He didn't show any restraint when he added Hayden.

Yes, but he did show restraint by stopping with Hayden.  It could have been worse.  So much worse.

(Yeah, I made it delibrately look bad.  Sure.  That's it.)

It wasn't just the inclusion of Hayden it was the choice of shot of Hayden.

He looks much more sinister in that shot than he ever did as Vader in ROTS, at least Seb Shaw looks benign.

He looks like he's interested in killing all of the Ewoks. Kind of dampens the effect of Anakin's redemption.

Vader and ObiWan both say that Anakin died, but they're wrong. Luke is right. "It's your true name, you've only forgotten it." He redeems Vader because Anakin was never really 'dead' in the way Vader and Obi and Palpy thought he was.

I'm all for the morph effect. I do not think his ghost should be young Anakin, but I also think he should have some resemblence to Hayden. If it's a totally different person, it wouldn't be a good flow. I know everyone changes as they age, but Im sure if you had a picture of a young Sebastian Shaw for example, you would most likely be able to tell that it's the same person. So, unless Ady is going to change Anakin throughout the prequels (Pretty impossible), the morph is the best route IMO.

I think it's simple enough to give him Anakin's eye scar, since he got that long before he was scarred anyway.

Though that begs the question - why wouldn't he have the OTHER scars?  (Note that I'm NOT suggesting we add burn scars to Anakin's ghost, either)

If you're going to have Hayden as the ghost, he should at least wear the same Jedi robes he wore while he was a Jedi, and not the old man garbs!

And....

How often does Chewie wash?...cos man, that Dirty Wookie must stink!!!

Another rough sketch variation of a tarted up briefing room now with an open roof (coming from Disney's wonderfully designed but otherwise mostly awful The Black Hole).

It might look OTT but some of the original designs were rather similar to this.

Hopefully when Vaderious gets his new PC we will get some nicer versions of these ideas (or if anyone else out there wants to give it a spin that would be great).

Why the choice to make the chamber so dark?

A number of reasons really.

The original set was blanket lit which highlights that it's largely made up of bits of other older sets and makes even a large space look smaller.

I'm also thinking that any alterations will need a bit of shadow to hide the join and if you are to have a nice open roof bleaching the set in light will detract from that.

My main reason was the element from The Black Hole was dark and I wanted to illustrate an idea without access to 3D modeling skills and it wouldn't work as an illustration if the bottom half was bright white and the top was dark and slightly red.

It's just a mock-up people with better skills and equipment may be able to take the general idea and match it closer to the orignal lighting scheme but I never bought into the Rebels all having white ship interiors and the Imperials all having dark set up.

The control centre in ANH was dark and it added movement and drama to those scenes by having the lights and displays in motion, the white briefing room in ROTJ just looks like a boring set filled with bits and bobs from elsewhere (more Star Trek TNG than Star Wars).

The Black Hole wasn't that bad.

It's one of those films like "Lost In Space" and "Hellraiser II" that feel like 2 different films glued together (one rather good and one really awful).

I loved the sets and models and Maximillian is a really scary robot, especially when he drills into Perkins (why weren't the battle droids in the Star Wars prequels that menacing?) but it seemed to want to be serious science fiction (2001 style, only without the actual science) one minute and Buck Rogers (minus the fun) the next.

There are also some brilliant performances mixed in with some terrible ones.

The USS Cygnus deserves to be in a better film (it's so beautiful) and the whole idea of the humanoids was real horror show for a nine year old.

I'd recommend it for a fan edit, someplace else naturally.

I've actually been thinking about picking that up as a project.

Um...

Back on topic.

There has been much debate on the Yub Yub song (which I personally loathe) vs the Special Edition (which I think is a much better improvement).  The ideal fan edit ought to have both available through seamless branching.

How about "Yoda." Or "The Saga Begins." <grin>

"White and Nerdy" better fits this topic.

I believe various versions of the Force theme have been experimented with already with some success (using it creates problems though particularly what do you do with Vader's cremation which already has it).

I for one love the Yub Yub song, but one possibility is to have 'The Immolation Scene' music from ROTS play during the pyre, and Force theme during the end.

But yub yub rocks.

Or maybe the Qui-Gon cremation music from TPM.

No offence, but those briefing room mockups are WAY too busy.

During Vader's cremation, it could transition into the music from the ceremony at the end of A New Hope. Except the version heard during the ROTS credits.

None taken, how would you do it?

Bear in mind it is a mock up and not a screenshot and remember most of the time you would be seeing something more like this (not that much more busy than the original shot):
