Thanks for the update, it's gonna be great.
As for that 'gantry' duel shot, that's amazingly beautiful work....
Wonderful, once again Adywan. Thanks for sharing.

Ziz said:Bingowings said:I read it (after ROTJ but the signs are there) that Vader is sensing Leia and mistaking her for Luke, knowing Han helped Luke escape the Death Star and shot up his ship adds to the assumption that the person strong in the Force in that ship is Luke (when he finds he isn't there he improvises the trap at Bespin knowing that Luke will feel the pain of his friends).
Dude, that's just Lucasizing.
Vader had no way to know where Luke was during the battle, so failing any hard evidence that he was fighting the walkers, the other logical place for him to be would be on the Falcon during the escape. And from a "capture the Rebels" perspective, he figured that's where Leia would be too, so it made sense to chase the Falcon instead of worrying about individual X-Wings.
I'm not sure how much was happy happenstance and how far ahead at that point things were being planned but Leia/Sister thing isn't as far fetched as it may have seemed back in 1983.
Vader knows Luke is on Hoth as soon as he sees the probe droid data, (the connection seems more than just instinctive and if the Force is leading him Leia is there too), Leia's dark side manifests in choking Lando by proxy (just like her dad), when Luke reaches out to Leia while hanging off the antenna she picks up his location instantly.
I know Gary Kurtz insists that the other/sister was originally meant to be a totally different character but the only things getting in the way of the link are those retroactively rather uncomfortable snogging scenes (and in the real world attraction between seperated siblings is a well recorded).
So if I'm Lucasizing, so be it (not every Lucas idea is a dud if that was the case none of us would be here would we?).
Vader sensed Obi-Wan in ANH so why shouldn't he sense the child (which he didn't know he had in ANH) on the Falcon in ESB?
He just didn't know there was more than one (even Padme didn't know that until they hatched).
Nice work, Ady. Man, I'm excited.
Just caught the new ION Cannon laserbolt!
Marvellous colouring, just marvellous.
Can't wait to see that sequence in motion.
A couple of last things for now - I remember vaderious mocked-up a 'reflective' glow effect on the ION Cannon (and some of the snow too) when it fired. I know this is only a single frame, but will you be incorporating a little of that at all, or not? A little would be neat perhaps. It's already neat of course.
Same question about a 'build-up' of 'arcing electricity' as it prepares to fire. Is this something that there could be a subtle hint of too?
By the way, I'll miss that Turret Gun in this shot, but that sure is a terrific background and sky....and pure white too. I sure wonder what those AT-AT shots are gonna look like now....

Agreed. Lovely stuff there Adyman!
Nice going ady !
Many pages back I suggested or asked if you were gonna do something about the ION gun and you said no as that was more EU related, good to see this happen..makes for a more dynamic flow :)
thank you !
You are doing good work and I try to get every sci.fi lover to see your clips, because this is truly going to be epic !

Nice work Ady! You did a good job cleaning up the sabers and reinserting colour in the background of the gantry shot. However, is it just me or does the bottom of the shaft look too bright blue?
What really blew me away, though, was the ion cannon shot. Not only does the new bolt effect look terrific, but the new sky and horizon elements are stunning (the dark blue/bright white contrast looks very Ralph McQuarrie-ish). And hey -- the snow is white!

I missed that ion cannon shot. Holy crap, thats so clear! Are you going to be using Vaderios' element in these scenes?

Why did you remove the little laser cannon on the ground in that shot?

I would keep this shot clean of any added SDs, being that the IMperial Fleet would be "behind" the camera view.
This is where I would add the rest of the Imperial Fleet in the background, about half the size or smaller than the Avenger (since the Avenger was rushing to make the first kill).
I would add the background fleet in the later part of the camera pan here, to show them closing in.
You could maybe add some tracks here to show that Luke has at least walked from over the ridge (from the center to the lower left). I see now that there are tracks directly behind him (so this is a very minor alteration suggestion), just a suggestion so we can better see the tracks.
Could improve the background sky area.
I would replace the Executor with two or three disabled SDs off to the right background, to imply that the path the rebels took (and the previous location of the Imperial Fleet) was way off to the right.
I would keep this shot clean, as of by now Luke would be far away from the main rebel escape point and the ion battle. You could possibly show the stars start to speed up as Luke increases speed to prep for the hyperspace jump.

as for the blockade i will be adding a couple of extra stardestroyers to the initial approach and a disabled stardestroyer in the background during Lukes escape but what i was saying was that Luke could easily slip away unchallenged because its just one fighter and a transport did leave just before he escaped so any remaining stardestroyers (which would only be one or two at the most) would be concentrating on the larger ships, so no need to add loads of stardestroyers for that scene. After all Luke is going in a completely different direction than the rebels so he most likely leaves in the opposite direction so you wouldn't see all the disabled stardestroyers which seem to concentrate above the rebel base on the other side of the planet. When the rebel transport escapes the stardestroyer is now firing upon the ships and destroys one x-wing and after the stardestroyer is disabled you see the transport and remaining x-wing jump to hyperspace.
Those shots look fantastic, Ady. Love the fixed lightsabers.

Agreed! It all looks incredible.
Wanna trade fan edits?
I am constantly amazed by the work you put out, Ady. How did you get the video information that the glow concealed? Vader's helmet was nearly invisible in that shot, but in your version it is clear as day. I also love the new ion cannon shot- the clarity is breathtaking.
I think Imperial Fighter mentioned this above, but I too was wondering if we would hear a pre-electrical energy charge sound with the new electrical ion canon blasts? Those shots are great as usual....love the new mountain in the background of the ion canon shot, and that white snow is popping off the screen.

All of that does look great, I was wondering why he got rid of the turret (Granted it is small in the pic) to the right of the ion cannon?
Also on the gantry there are 4 squares on the floor where Vader stands Asking Luke to join him, in the above frame those are not present. And I hope all yellow lights on the gantry, and vane on the right flash as they should.
ADYWAN-
I have some questions for you, although not 'Edit' specific. If you have time, consider this kinda an interview.
1- What change have you made (Star Wars or ESB) that you liked the most?
2- Has there been anything you wish you could edit, but never found the best way to fix?
3- Have you ever found yourself opinions swayed, or been particuarly surprised at the suggestions or comments of the boards?
4- Have you ever gone about fixing something, only to decide after you liked it better before, or instead that afterwars you liked the new way it was so much you felt like you wanted to do more?
5- If you could have a beer with George Lucas, what would you say to him?
ThanksMan! i'm just about out of ideas on Empire. all my new questions are for ROTJ. of all the updates that will be done there, i can only imagine. its march though, two months until the final trailer. :)

REPLY - I absolutely agree! This was just originally a rough indication that the Planet could have been 'surrounded' to a certain degree, as I thought that there was going to be quite a large Fleet perhaps, and that it would be interesting to show that they would spread fairly wide around the Planet. However, having thought about Adywan's intentions today for a more modest amount of ships, I think you are definately correct that the fewer Stardestroyers that the ION Cannon fires towards here (and that the 'Transport' heads towards too), WOULD be 'behind' this P.O.V. shot!
This is where I would add the rest of the Imperial Fleet in the background, about half the size or smaller than the Avenger (since the Avenger was rushing to make the first kill).
REPLY - Again, I think this would be a great addition here. You have the possible placement and 'scale' spot on here, and think their addition into this would tie-in VERY well with some of the previous Stardestroyer positioning we see!
Note: Is it really the 'Avenger' that is the most foremost Stardestroyer here? The foremost one (seen in this shot) is the one that gets disabled isn't it? The 'Avenger' is another one that eventually chases after the Millennium Falcon, isn't it?
I would add the background fleet in the later part of the camera pan here, to show them closing in.
REPLY - Again, this would be a great addition at this point!
You could maybe add some tracks here to show that Luke has at least walked from over the ridge (from the center to the lower left). I see now that there are tracks directly behind him (so this is a very minor alteration suggestion), just a suggestion so we can better see the tracks.
REPLY - Trivial and unexciting. But a really nice subtle spot, and I'll take it!
Could improve the background sky area.
REPLY - Absolutely! Especially when we see how great Ady's 'ION Cannon' background looks now....
I would replace the Executor with two or three disabled SDs off to the right background, to imply that the path the rebels took (and the previous location of the Imperial Fleet) was way off to the right.
REPLY - Absolutely, once again! I've previously flipped between whether I thought a disabled Stardestroyer would be better added to this shot OR if it should be added to the next one with the receding X-Wing instead. In the end I suggested adding one to the next shot. However, I now clearly see the better option of showing something along the lines of what you've suggested here, that would look terrific if added into this shot instead, especially when taken in conjunction with your next comments!
I would keep this shot clean, as of by now Luke would be far away from the main rebel escape point and the ion battle. You could possibly show the stars start to speed up as Luke increases speed to prep for the hyperspace jump.
REPLY - Agreed! It does make sense from a positioning / distance aspect, that we see the disabled Stardestroyer(s) on the previous shot instead, and in the position you describe....
Adywan, as far as I'm concerned, this particular post by Monroville is a gold nugget!
I REALLY dig these suggestions of his here, and feel that taken as a whole, that they are a BIG improvement to this sequence in general! Certainly something for you to consider.
Monroville, nice one! I'd happily see these ideas realised, as they would enhance the existing shots wonderfully. Well thought out indeed. I've just copied your comments (as the shots are nearby here already), and added some of my own for you, beside each one.
Of course, I'll take whatever excellence Adywan comes up with, and like it! But I certainly like these proposals....a LOT.
Adywan uve done it agen, those new pics look amazin. Just gonna say that new ion pic looks waaayy better. Must admit i had never noticed the turret before and can totally understand why it was deleted. Just gotta ask Adywan, did you use Advanced lightening in After Effects in that scene? (Sorry if i repeatin an answer someone might of already said but. Why cant alot more ships be hit with the ion canon?
Simple answer being that an Ion canon needs time to recharge, says so in Empire at War which i know isnt really G-canon but makes alot more sense).
The Vader vs Luke scene looks amazin and I always got annoyed with the over all brightness of lightsabers in some scenes. Just a quick question while im here lol. U fixed the Vader helmet wobble during the "I am your father" bit?
Thanks for the kudos, Imp Fighter.. <:)
Ady: I understand that if anything is to be changed or added, it has to fit the logic of the situation (I can see why you would go back to 5 AT-ATs, being that Veers is essentially the "shock troop first wave" sent quickly to punch a hole for the main assault, which would come AFTER the shield generator was destroyed). Regardless, everything is looking fantastic and it is just making it even harder to wait for the end result. You know, it's almost like 1980 all over again waiting for EMPIRE to come out for the first time (and sad as it may be to say, I am looking forward to this more than WATCHMEN)

I believe it is the Avenger, being that it is Captain Needa that is saying: "Good, our first catch of the day". Man, what did Lucas have against poor Captain Needa? First, he gets hit right in the face with an ion cannon blast (imagine him looking out the front window when that second blast hits the bridge square on), then he almost WRECKS a Star Destroyer trying to get the MF, and then he loses a head-on confrontation with a ship as big as the SD's nose (as in "tip of").
And to top off his illustrious career of losing, he gets dragged off the Executor bridge (and no doubt dumped out an airlock) after Vader force-chokes him to death for simply being himself.
And to think: he could have been a moisture farmer on Tatooine and lived a much more peaceful life... well, unless he had some droids the empire wanted...

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.
@vbangle: The thing about that is a public answer would be more interesting! I'd like to know the answers to these now that they're out here.
