I'd recommend downloading the DVD-9. It's ready-to-go DVD files, you just burn to disc and you're set.
Problems with that: It's an 8-gig file (ballpark), and if you don't have a dual-layer burner and dual-layer media it's pointless.
If that's the case, get the DVD-5, which is around 4 gigs and is a single-layer DVD, but again, all the files are ready to go.
Converting from a low-bitrate (compared to the DVD-5/DVD-9) AVI to DVD will yeild substantially lower quality than downloading either of the two DVD versions.
