Something that always bother me in ROTJ is the same DS matte.

Not only is awful but in some cases it doesn't fit with the perspective.

I made something quick:

I like the first one, but not the second one so much, as it sort of looks like it's about to leave...but never does. :p Know what I mean?

Yep. I thought a rotation would be cool. Maybe from the o ther side :)

how about under the moon with a big shadow on it? the when it is revealed at the beginning the shadow can be lifted for a big reveal?

Interesting...interesting. Don't know if fits to the Star Wars feeling. But hell. In ROTS the battle are revealed behind the Venator. So It can work. Plus a good establishing shot of millions of ships constructing the DS.

Maybe i ll make something on this.... :)

Endor as the moon of a blue ringed gas giant (like Neptune) with the back of the Death Star crude mock-up type thing :

Very Cool! Still if the planet is the gas giant it should be bigger that its moon :)

I like the extreme perspective of the shot!

I feel a Father Ted style explanation of perspective coming on.

I wanted it to look different from Yavin so I put the moon quite far away from it's parent.

The Endor is 3d model?

The forest moon is the original matte, the gas planet is a painting of Uranus, the Death Star is my own attempt to simulate the back of the thing (rather slapped together as can be seen in close up).

The perpespective seems a bit odd. From far it works.

Why you don't use a 3d model? :)

I haven't ever tried 3d modeling, for one thing I haven't the software on this Mac thing and for another I'm not even fully competant at working in 2d.

I'm terrible at cutting around edges (even with real paper), too many late nights doing tiny patterns with white ink on black ink drawings in a candle lit room does terrors to ancient eyes.

Very nice work there, very nice indeed!

I cobbled together this view of the Executor dropping Vader off with a hint of contruction around the Death Star.

Executor Endor

Why do I get the feeling you're going to be the death of me?

Where did you get this executor pic?

Is one of the star wars exhibitions?

Good job :D

"Don't say that master, you're the closest thing I have to a...3D modelling expert type thing...mmm."

It was taken at an exhibition but I did just google it.

So I can't claim to be responsible for taking it (i'm a terrible Magpie).

Obviously I still had to put a light to the engines.

I'm starting to think we could (between the people posting here) produce virtual storyboards for alternate ROTJs with all the extra trimmings.

It would be a great resource for anyone doing an overhaul of Episode VI.

I'm not sure that angle works best.  It makes it look like a strange alien ship, like one of the Rebels', instead of the Executor.

I think Boba should be left alone in the OT. I actually liked him better before I knew he had a name.

A few suggestions for Jedi -

-Others have been talking about distinguishing the shuttles more - I think that's a good idea. Someone was experimenting earlier with turning the Tyderium into one of the Revenge shuttles. Maybe give the Emperor's some special markings like we see on ships in the prequels.

And I know audio can be a bitch to edit, but since I got the soundtracks to the trilogy a few years ago, a lot of edits in the movie have bothered me. Empire's not so bad, the edits in Jedi are more arbitrary and annoying.

Empire -

-The original cue "Snowspeeders Take Flight" is replaced with an arrangement of "Hyperspace" with an awkward sort of cut towards the end (it's passable, though - the original sounds a little goofy)

-The first reveal of the Empire's fleet - the standard Imperial March works pretty well here, but there was originally another cue supposed to play here (continuing unused music from the probe droid scene)

-A bit from "Yoda and the Force" is reused to lead into the finale, but since it doesn't really replace anything, BFD

Jedi -

-When Leia first enters as Boushh with Chewie, the beginning of the cue is replaced with an excerpt from when Luke confronts Vader on the landing pad.

-In the scene when Luke enters Jabba's throne room, the middle of the cue is replaced with an excerpt from the duel later (The "You have a twin sister!" part).

-The beginning of the scene when Luke and Leia are talking on Endor tracks music from Empire ("Yoda and the Force")

-When Luke tries to kill the Emperor, a clip is played from later when the Emperor orders him to kill Vader

-When Lando and Wedge are about to enter the core, the beginning of "Through the Flames" is replaced with more music from Empire ("Losing a Hand")

Boba's name has been said on-screen in the OT twice, by Han in ROTJ: "Boba Fett?  Boba Fett?  Where?!"  Immediately after, Boba is accidentally killed.

I think if you remove him from ROTJ then his OT story is perfect - hired by Vader, captures Han, gets his cash, and he's out to catch more fugitives for more cash.  That's it.  I don't understand why people are so attached to his consistently-awful depiction in ROTJ.

Since the Jabba's palace scenes aren't nearly as offensive to his character as the sail barge scenes, my second choice is to simply remove him from the sail barge scenes and show Slave I taking off in the exterior shot of the palace.  I could live with the whole thing about him selling the Rebels the Death Star II's location, but I'd honestly rather not see that.  It's not needed.

Since I'm probably beginning to sound like a broken record (*cough*Kurgan*cough*), I'll shut up about that now - my feelings have been made known on this subject, and it's Ady's decision from here on in.

Here's my first stab at beefing up the crawl :

Oh I agree but finding a shot of the wedgeee angle has not yielded any catches for me yet.

Shadows Of The Executor

I'd rewritten the crawl based on some of the ideas presented in the "Fan-O-Matic" thread.  Note that this crawl assumes the movie plays out in this order:

1. Vader arrives on DSII
2. Leia delivers Chewie to Jabba
3. Luke is on Dagobah, Yoda dies, Obi-Wan tells Luke of Leia (which works well because the next scene is...)
4. Leia frees Han, is captured
5. Luke arrives on Tatooine.
6. Droids attempt to deliver message, but are taken captive

The rest of the movie pretty much plays out as before.  Anyway, here's my new crawl:

STAR WARS
Episode VI
THE RETURN OF THE JEDI

The Rebellion stands on the
brink of destruction.  While
Han Solo is imprisoned in
Jabba the Hutt's Tatooine
palace, Luke Skywalker remains
on Dagobah to complete
his Jedi training.

As Leia and Lando put into
action a plan to free their
friend, the GALACTIC EMPIRE
has begun construction on a
new, far more powerful DEATH
STAR.

When completed, this ultimate
weapon will spell certain doom
for the small band of Rebels
struggling to restore freedom
to the galaxy. . . .

And there's something that definitely NEEDS to be fixed: "Jedi" is the ONLY film where the opening crawl has three dots at the end.  Every other one has four!  It's bothered me since I was about 8.

I don't know about showing Luke on Dagobah before we see his entrance on Tatooine. The way the new and improved Jedi Luke is presented is pretty effective.
