Jeez, WTF is that?!
Okay, one last bit and then I'm thorougly done with the Bespin stuff.
Ady: will you consider making the background set area Luke comes from a bit more bluish to match with the bluish area around the carbonite chamber:

I'm a fan of Revisited but it just seems like this is getting out of hand. I'm all for fixing the little continuity gaffs and the horrible tinting but now it just seems like we're looking for things to change just because we can. The Empire Strikes back is regarded by many to be the best film of the trilogy. I just worry that if it's tampered with too much in very obvious ways that it could be ruined. We don't want that do we?

No, and that's why a lot of the changes that seem really big end up being more subtle in the end. Ady usually finds a good balance.

That would be the purist cut. Revisited is like Adywan's Special Edition/Restoration

Monroville said:ImperialFighter said:Monroville - you're not related to someone called 'Kurgan' by any chance, are you? ;)
Yeah, yeah I know... I kinda deserve it.
But unlike Kurgan and the great "blue TIE fighter debate" I don't keep bashing on about something 10+ posts in. Like I've stated before, I will go 3 posts on any subject and leave it at that.
And as far as my previous comments, they are exactly that: just comments. Ady, you ARE doing this for yourself and showing you are a proper fan. You don't do this stuff frivolously nor quickly. It is nice you are listening to others out there to make this the best presentation possible, but ultimately this is a personal project and there is nothing wrong with that. So please don't get TOO mad at me, because while I may not be a part of the choir I still applaud the conductor.
I don't see why I should become some kind of posterboy for "Evil" around here just because I have an opinion contrary to adywan and don't suddenly clam up when I'm shouted at by fanboys. Geez, get a grip!
But I'm sure you both were just kidding around... not serious at all, right? ;)
Blue TIEs > gray TIEs in ESB.
I don't blame people at all for hating the color "blue" after exposure to the 2004 edits, but that's one particular place where the color is good. He's throwing the baby out with the bathwater, though kudos for admitting that he's doing this based on how he thinks the movies should be, not out of some pure sense of "restoration."
It's funny how what I said is now being characterized as "bashing." I don't see where I ever bashed anyone. The main thing I objected to, was the apparent perception of some that somehow Adywan needed everyone to hush up and praise his decisions, and anyone who disagreed must keep quiet.
I too, in most of my posts, remind Adywan that it's his project and he can do whatever he wants, and I know he isn't going to "quit the scene" just because somebody told him he made a bad call.
I also remind people if they don't like what I'm writing, they always have the option to stop reading my posts! People can get mad all they want, but it won't stop dissenting opinions from getting posted here.
Just wanted to clear that up!
Let's think about the Exogorth or Space Slug in a real-life reality. What does a space-slug eat? How does it eat? How does it digest? You could compare the slug to a humpback whale. Let's explore what we know. The slug, hides out in a hole in space waiting for its prey to come to it. If it hunted for food it would have exited the hole while the Falcon escaped. It is likely that passing 'food' does not come by often, so the life span of the slug could easily be thousands of years. It should also be able to survive long periods of time without food. Instead the slug hides, blending into its surroundings, and waits with its mouth open to allow anything to come in. It also slowly closes its mouth instead of snapping it shut, probably so that the unsuspecting victim would remain unawares to its doom, similar to a Venus Fly trap. Its digestion is probably very slow (as we see the Mynocks still alive and flying around). It may have a similar style of digestion as the Sarlacc in the Pit of Carkoon, who digests over a period of a thousand years. Or perhaps it stores its food alive untill it needs it. That said killing and chewing its food probably isn't on the 'top' of its priorities. You could argue that Mynocks and such are too small for the slug and it eats larger things, and wouldn't be concerned with 'digesting' them. However, if that where true, then it probably wouldn't have cared much if the Falcon escaped, as it too is rather small comparatively. So, for arguments sake, the teeth would be used for trapping its food more than it would be either for chewing or killing. Further more they would more than likely look like in such away to not be obvious jaws of death, but disappear, so to speak. What should further support this direction is when Leia say's that the cave is collapsing; it should appear as a 'cave collapsing' and not a obvious mouth with teeth. Our hero's aren’t that 'dumb'. If we can see that it's a mouth with teeth, they should too, right? You could even take it a step further, by Han's realization that it wasn't a cave. It implys he is familiar with 'space slugs', or their like, and wouldn't have been so easily dooped into going in one if it was so obvious as when they are coming out.
If we argue that it eats spaceships as it's main source of food, could only imply that the worm didn't exist before space travel was invented, otherwise what would it have eaten then? So, we cannot use that as a corner stone.
or you could believe what it says on the Wookieepedia http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Exogorth
The space slug looks fine. Why change it? It's a fantastic creature that makes absolutely no sense in real life, so if we were going for strict realism there would be no creature, period. Delete the whole scene and just say they flew out of a normal asteroid.
The only part that needs fixing are the bad matte lines on the teeth in those last shots (and maybe that strange blue effect that everyone mentioned that's now been removed). Everybody knows it's a monster mouth except Leia, so what?
If you really want to improve the scene, turn it into one of the sand worms from Dune, and insert the line where Dr. Kynes is talking about blessing the Maker and his water. ;)

This reminds me of a discussion that bounced around some months back (the nature of which is not for this place).
Star Wars isn't science fiction, it's space fantasy, it's Sinbad with space ships.
While a creature like the space slug might exist out there somewhere it wouldn't look like that and would possibly feed off chemical deposits found in the asteroid field and resemble a marine filter feeder, the teeth make no scientific sense at all but that's ok because it doesn't have to be a scientifically viable creature, it's fantasy.
But for a fantasy story to work it has to make sense within the fantasy realm that the story is set in.
Han flies through the open mouth and initially believes it to be a cave entrance, Leia is still convinced it's a cave when the mouth is shutting and it makes sense to make the creature look more of a realistic (in a fantastic sense) threat.
So changing the mouth to look more like the sort of thing that could be mistaken for a cave and making the creature look more convincingly scary makes sense.
But it is up to Adywan if he wants to do that in his edit.
Thats why Star wars was/is so succesfull. It doesnt explains almost everything. For example: what fuel the ships are using, what food the protagonists/rest of the creatures eat etc :)
So the space worm is just placed here without the audience care what it was before or after this scene

I agree.
I think it's time for me to put in an opinion on things being suggested here. This is not a "LET'S DO IT BECAUSE WE CAN!" edit. At least, SW:R didn't seem to be. Right now, a lot of the suggestions given are leading down that road. Not saying you shouldn't give ideas, but ESB is fine as it is.

Right, and Adywan has stated this himself many times. :) There were a couple of moments in ANH:R that were sort of 'because we can,' but for the most part, the changes are subtle and do not detract from the films.

I think the point of Ady's projects are that they are "LET HIM DO WHAT HE THINKS IMPROVES THINGS!" edits.
All we are doing is making suggestions.
If ESB is as fine as you say it is what would be the point of doing it at all?
ESB is the best of the six films so far and ESB:R (or any other fan edit) will not remove the other versions from history (George's attempts to do that with his re-edits is what prompted the creation of this board in the first place) but there is room for improvement and with this project Adywan has the final say as to what he wants to and doesn't want to do with it.
this is what i see when i look at the slug
i say dump it and go with the alien chestburster mouth if possible

the millenium falcon could resemble a cookie....unless the whole asteroid is infact one massive cookie too?
