I agreed with you in the first place... The Phantom Menace is still a very good SW title, and it fits the format, and is relevant in IMO. You should just simply call it Star Wars: The Phantom Menace: The Darth Godbold edit.

just finished watching your edit btw, very well executed. clean cuts and i honestly didnt feel as if i was watching an edit. i think what someone said earlier was true, which is that it wasnt anything too original as far as TPM edits go, but still a dramatic improvement on the original!

As to the non-dubbing route, one of the best example I've seen recently are the Slumberland Edits.
Jar-Jar is still Jar-Jar (not a foul mouthed wise cracker or a Jedi) but he actually made me laugh for the first time in almost a decade.
I still think there is a really good hybrid of all the different edits already done to be made.
I've yours up to breaking the blockade and heading for Tatooine.
Some of the sound editing is similar to Slumberland (though he manages to make the Gungans even less annoying), there are a few breaks which hang in the air a bit (almost like the commercials are about to kick in) and there is a very uncomfortable cut during the blockade sequence while R2 is fixing the hyperdrive. I can't quite see the point of the shot of the bigger fish eating the big fish staying in (it sees to be setting up a bit of danger for latter which doesn't actually happen).
But overall for a first go it's looking fine.

Slumberland and others get around this by removing all mention of the planet core.

Sure the scene is a bit silly and useless, but I like Qui-Gon saying, "there's always a bigger fish", it always makes think of Palpatine and rings a bell to the title of the movie.

I was saying that in the context of Darth Godbold's edit (he takes out most of the Bongo scenes but keeps the long necked fish chomping on the other fish only without it attacking the ship).
i suppose its in there for a kind of look at that moment

Shadows (plural) being the two sith i.e sidious and maul
Shadows Of The Jedi being the darkside of the jedi i.e. the sith

My only advice would be to watch as many other edits as possible and make an edit that takes from the best of what has already been done, also check out the various threads about prequel edits and see if any of the ideas click with you and try them out.
I have now made many alterations and have finished my edit i have authored a dual layer dvd
with new menus ect,
all i need to do now is put it up on fanedit (i need some help doing this)
and could use some help creating a dvd cover
