One more question (sorry but I'm curious):

There's 2 burning options in Nero: To burn in DVD5 (default - 4483Mo) or DVD9 (8152Mo).

Obviously I can only burn in DVD5. Is it a loss of quality to not be able to make it in DVD9 (everybody talks about the DVD9 version wich is the best one... If it has something to do with it)?

;)

EDIT: Ooohhh nooo ! Let me guess... I download the wrong file, isn't it ?

Alright, your problem with Nero when it was complaining was that you were trying to author your own DVD using the files you downloaded, which isn't what you needed.  The data DVD is definiately the option you want to choose.

As for DVD5 vs DVD9, its all in what file you downloaded. The DVD9 file is well over the 4.3 GB the DVD5 file is.  You wouldn't be able to burn the DVD9 file on the DVD5, so just burn what you can and it should be alright.

Ok, but what is the difference between the 2 versions ? Is it a draft or compressed version I have ?

Thank you anyway ! :)

If your's isn't something like 9 GB, its the DVD5/second draft, which only has one or two tiny fixes undone and no bonus features besides text commentary.  It is compressed, but not so much that you would notice.  Don't worry about it, just burn a Data DVD with the files and see what comes out of your DVD player!

On Adywan's DVD, the layer break is at the start of the scene when Vader is walking toward the just-captured Falcon.

It is NOT after Tarkin says "Terminate her. Immediately".

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

Yep, I burned one DVD anyway yesterday and as I said it works fine. I notice the picture to be quite better than the SE, however as my eyes are very sensitive to image definition I thought it could have been a tiny bit better... Just a bit.

I won' t insist and will enjoy the one I found, even if I would have been happy to have the isolated score !

Thanks friends !!! ;)

But...

ChainsawAsh says opposite: "Layer break, IIRC, should be after Tarkin says "Terminate her, immediately!" so yours sounds right to me."

Which one of these two is where the layer change is supposed to happen?  Can someone definitively say which one is actually correct based on what Adywan intended?

Does it really even matter as long as the DVD plays through without any crashes?

Or if someone has their burned disc handy:
I load the DVD while ImgBurn is running and the info panel says this at the bottom:
Layer 0 Sectors 2,041,648
Layer 1 Sectors 2,041,632

IIRC, the "Terminate her immediately" layer break was the way the 2004 dvd did it, and right after there is the shot of the Falcon in hyperspace. When I was messing with the layer break settings, it gave me two options for where to place the break- I ignored them both and used the file defaults, but the two options were the two layer breaks being discussed. It is possible that though the default is the Vader/Falcon break, some people's settings resulted in the break being the Tarkin one. Does that all make sense? Or am I reaching a wrong conclusion?

Ah, that's right.  I was wrong, and was thinking about the 04 DVD.  My mistake.

The correct setting for the layer break on the PAL DVD-9 is cell 27 which is right after Tarkin says "Terminate her, immediately". The NTSC DVD-9 also had this layer break set but some versions of IMGBurn reported it as a bad layer break position, even though i was able to burn it ok with my version of Imgburn. So there was a fix posted to solve the imgburn problem that changed the layer break for the NTSC to cell 28 which is the start of the scene that Vader walks to the falcon in the death star hangar.

I actually like the new layer break, since the old one resulted in complete silence while the disk switched layers, then a huge ZHWOOOO as the Falcon shot overhead in Hyperspace. It always made us jump, but the new one doesn't have that issue. In its place, the new (NTSC) break seems to be a split second into the shot, instead of between the two, resulting in an odd pause as opposed to the usual scene gap. :P Eh, what can you do.

Just burnt the PAL DVD-5 version and it is fantasic! I own the 2004 SE DVD also but this far exceeds it. Now I just have to track down the PAL DVD-9 version. I always noticed the layer break after that line, I thought it was just my DVD player but I guess it wasn't.

Dear Adywan,

I made made a Hungarian Dub for the Star Vars revisited version with Sony Vegas, and I want to add this to the film. It's in a Wav format, and I can do it vith Convert X to DVD. My problem is that I want to keep the menu and the extras of the film. With the program, I cannot do it. So, i decided to writte to this forum. Can you help me, for this. With a HunDub much more people would watch your edit in Hungary, not just fans.

Greetings Master,

Like a young Luke Skywalker before he met Obi-wan Kenobee, I was lost in a galaxy; far, far away….. There was a great disturbance in the Force when Lucas released his version of the original trilogy.

The Lucas release of the original trilogy left me troubled and sleepless.  My trust in Lucas only led me to hate and fear and thus I turned to the Dark Side of the Force. I was blinded with anger as the constant red tint in the Lucas’s version was not true to the Jedi ways.  I meditated trying to find the inner peace that I once had when I was just a youngling viewing this movie for the first time. But alas, my meditations were that of falsehoods as even my ears deceived me as the rear audio was reversed and at times out of sync. I was unable to sleep and I was despondent and tortured much like Anakin Skywalker when he had visions of his mother dying.  My young love – my Padame – tried to console me, tried to understand me, and comfort me; but alas I was consumed by darkness that the original trilogy cast over me.

Then the force, in its mysterious ways, brought me to this site.  There was a new hope when you began your arduous journey.  I downloaded and watched your version of the trilogy.  I have not seen such skill since Count Dooku expertly wielded his light saber!

You ARE the chosen one!

The one who has brought me out of darkness and into the light! The ONE that has brought balance to the Force!

The Force is beyond strong in you my Master, as you have fought the dark side of Lucas and won much like the Skywalkers’ were able to slay the Emperor!

I have since exiled my Lucas discs to ice planet of Hoth.  If ever you are in need of a young apprentice, let the force guide You to Me.

May the force be with you always and forever my Chosen One.

Just curious, but has anybody had any problems playing A NEW HOPE: REVISITED  on the Sony Blu-ray players.  I got one for X-mas and popped it in and had a message that came up saying that the disc wasn't compatible, but my regular dvd player plays it with no problem.

That's strange. Does it play any other DVD's you have burned using the same media as you used for Revisited?

It might not be a media problem. I have tried other kinds ROM's (DVD5 and DVD9) that I have burned "FAN EDITS" on, and they don't work on it either. Now when I copy a store bought dvd onto a Dual layer or Single layer ROM it will work. I suspect that it is the mpeg codecs that fan edits use that might be the problem.

I was just curious if anybody here tried playing Revisited on any of the stand alone Sony Blu-ray players, and had any problems.  I guess I will have to do a firmware update and see if that fixes the problem.

So.. I just watched it.  I tried to torrent the Purist version, but I got the full blown 9GB deal... which is fine.  So... just like everybody else... I love, love, love it and yet wish a couple things were different.

1 - Wish there was no prequel music during the lightsabre fight.

2 - Wish the SE goofiness of Han running into a room of 100's of Stormtroopers was gone.

3 - The SE reinserted scene of Biggs in the hanger.  Mark Hamill seems like a really goofy kid in this scene and Red Leader is goofy.  I wish it gone.

So, about 100 fewer grievances than with the 1997 SE or the 2004 DVD... but still 3.

IT'S MY TRILOGY, AND I WANT IT NOW!

"[George Lucas] rebooted the franchise in 1997 without telling anyone." -skyjedi2005

"Yeah, well, George says a lot of things..." a young 1997 xhonzi on RASSM

"They're my movies." -George Lucas. 19 people won oscars for their work on Star Wars (1977) and George Lucas wasn't one of them.

Yeah, I noticed that on the list o' changes.  Unfortunately, I liked the other parts of the non-purist edition too much just to go purist...  I'm so torn.  :(

So get both.  Every time I make a copy of Revisited for someone, I do it as a 2 disc set - DVD9 as the "main disc", Purist as the "bonus" disc.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

Is there a link to find the PAL Purist edition DVD, because the Xvid torrent is as good as dead (sorry if it's been already said)?
