Just watched most of the 1080P AVCHD Adywan made for Episode 4.
No thanks, the small jump in quality isn't enough for me to part with his EP4 Revisited.
All I do now is look at all the mistakes in the SE now.
Spoiled am I..hmmm?

couldn't tell you exactly.. all i know is that windows media player has a huge
amount of overhead..
i use an older version of VLC (the new one has too much overhead), and
other players like smPlayer, and an older version of media player classic
work fine..... even on a regular core 2duo, i'm sure if your computer is
powerful enough to decode it, its just a matter of finding a player that
can play it..

are you looking at the same picture? there's 4-6 times the resolution difference..
i understand its the modified SE vs modifed OT version difference...
but to say that it's small jump, is wrong.
i'll take the 1080p SE modified version ANY DAY over the Adywan revisited version
for the opposite reason (the changes jump out there to me).. the added resolution
is icing on the cake.

Ok, what kind of screen do you have?
If you sit back from where I am standing it counts.

good point, and very true observation..
i've watched it on a 60inch screen at a friends,
and my folks are getting a 52inch REAL SOON NOW (This week),
and i have watched it a 40inch (my parents), and my own 32 inch
widescreen..
so i've seen both versions modified SE, and the ANH:R (9gig version) on all types
of screens, and the big quality difference jumps out to me...
i'm actually wondering if the 15gig version of the modified SE will be
even better quality (it should be)...

I have to agree wholeheartedly with Negative 1. I love the 1080p Adywan transfers and am continually amazed at new areas of detail that I see every time I watch them. I have a 46" Sony LCD and am blown away by the quality compared to a regular DVD, even when upscalled on my BD player.
I too am eagerly awaiting the 15G version that Ady is going to release and suspect that there will be even higher image quality. It's a real shame that his 15G of ANH won't be available...
Cheers,
WL
well the 14bg version won't be coming any time soon. my bloody ISP has just changed its policy and lowered the usage limit to 7GB per month and my speeds have gone down from 8mb down 1 mb up to just 125kb up so it would take me forever to upload 14gb plus i couldn't possibly do it with those limits. Guess i'll be looking around for another provider.
That's insane! I get the opposite with my ISP: I started out with a speed of 5MB and they've gradually upped it to 8MB for free. 60GB usage (combined up/down) per month, too.
You really do need another provider, it seems. That's incredibly restrictive, especially if you're paying for a decent plan. I bet they're going to lose a lot of customers.

yeh. they actually didn't even announce what they were doing which many were annoyed about. people started complaining about severely low speeds and the customer support just said it was a problem with their line. It was only when one of the ISP's resellers, who i am with, leaked out the memo from my ISP that things came to light. lots of people are leaving for other isps its just that we don't have a great choice in the UK of who i could go with. I've been with many, double figures now, in the past few years and i'd hoped these would have remained as good as they use to be, what a great new years gift this was. :(
The first ISP I had was run in a messy little office in a back alley by a couple of nerds. But it was great! Maybe you can find a non-corporate-type place to go with, too.
UK's at least got better choice than here. Here you've got Verizon, Time Warner, or dialup. :/
"Right now the coffees are doing their final work." (Airi, Masked Rider Den-o episode 1)
Ady, did you manage to find another ISP with better limits?
Also and at the risk of sounding too eager; are you working on your next AVCHD release?
Hey Ady,
I know you're knee deep (or possibly neck deep by now :) ) in ESB:R fixes right now, so I don't expect it any time soon, but, do you have an ETA on the ROTJ: SE AVC, or is it coming out post ESB:R?
To paraphrase the golden arches, and in regards to the all the work you've done on these HD releases: I'm effin' lovin' it! :)

Just spent the last hour going through EMPIRE on my 120" projector screen. Its breath taking. The colour correction makes a huge difference from the quite excellent WG version, too. Thank you, sir!
But, damn, I'd forgotten about the horrible 97 SE 'scream'. I guess its a trade-off between that and getting old Boba's voice back.
One question, however: is that just the DVD audio commentary? If so, I'm kinda thrown by its inclusion since its quite readily available. Surely the video could have used the extra bitrate? But anyway...
Bring on JEDI (sans Hayden) !

I know what you mean, it's the only thing keeping me from enjoying watching this.
Can anyone tell me if the PS3 verisons are still available on the Usenet? I've finally got everything working as far as the premium host, newsreader, ect. is concerned, just having a hard time finding the proper files in the group... Please respond in a PM, since I suspect some of this can't be posted on the forum. An idea of where I could find the NZB would be awesome! Thanks.

self-censored, don't want the forum to get into trouble, sent a PM instead

It plays blu-rays flawlessly, as well as 1080p .movs and .mkvs. However, the dedicated blu-ray player (Intervideo BD, I believe) cannot play ESB (I haven't tried ANH). Neither can mplayer. Windows Media Player can play the disc, but the audio will not stay in sync. Are there any other additional codecs/programs I need to get the disc to play correctly on a PC?
You can convert the files to MKV really easily. Install Daemon Tools and copy the m2ts file as mentioned in previous posts. Then follow this guide from step 4 taking care to note the audio timeshift in the ts file:

The best software for HD files on Windows IMO is Media Player Classic Home Cinema, it use the graphics card (Nvidia 8000 series and above, RadeonHD 2000 series and above) to accelerate HD content. The technical term being GPU offloading. It plays MKV 1080p files flawlessy for me, no dropped frames or tearing. A must for computer based HD playback, and its free and open source software too.
Just burned it and plays perfect. Looking forward to those !

I just renamed the m2ts file to mkv... works fine for me.
Has anyone figured out a way to burn a standard DVD from these files? I know the whole point is the HD but I wouldn't mind having a decent color corrected copy to watch while I wait for revisited.
Ive read speculation that the ps3 will come down in price sometime this spring so im hesitant to drop 400 bucks until that is confirmed or denied...
cheers
I got a PS3 on eBay for $250. It's an older 20GB model, but that model has 4 USB ports (new ones have 2), FULL PS2 backwards compatibility (new ones have NONE, older 80GB models have SOME), and I bought a 320GB notebook hard drive for $70 on Amazon and upgraded it. The ONLY thing mine doesn't have that other models do is Wi-Fi (would be nice, but don't really care), the SD card readers (don't care), and chrome trim (really don't care). If you want those things, get the 60GB model (but those go for quite a bit more on eBay than any other model, since those are the most fully-featured models).
Just finished burning ESB, and boy, great job Adywan, by all means release the other ones ! Those are my prefered versions of choice now regarding the original or not so original cuts. Amazing clarity.

downconvert the file to a DVD-resolution and then burn it, there's a lot of freeware
converters (or commercial ones) if you prefer... go to http://www.videohelp.com
and search under tools.
i've already made my own 720p, and dvd-resolution versions using all2avi (freeware).
