The Clone Wars (2008 animated tv series) - a general discussion thread — Page 12

Further rewatching of the Clone Wars eps. You know, I find myself looking at this thing very differently depending on which of two ways I view it -if I view it as supposed to be Star wars canon or if I view it as just an insignificant piece of expanded universe. As the first it's criminally shallow, like the later two prequels, and annoys in various ways. As the second I don't mind it and feel it has its good points if judged as a non-serious animated show. The problem is that Lucasfilm seem to be pushing us to go for the first.

Even the prequels wouldn't be quite as bad as they are if they weren't meant to be serious canon Star Wars. They fail utterly as canon Star Wars. They're really in reality no higher than expanded universe spinoff material, but alas Lucas isn't go to agree to calling them that any time soon. I guess the whole of modern Star Wars is just an exercise in expanded universe.

Anakin in the show is better than the Hayden Christensen version, but he's still not a very believable Anakin. In the show he's basically an anonymous sort of ordinary joe shmoe. But Anakin is supposed to a Jedi hero who turns into a forceful iron-willed villain and then into the wise benevolent old guy Sebastian Shaw played at the end of ROTJ. I just can't see the show's Anakin being/becoming all that. He's too much of a limited bland joe shmoe. And there are some hints of the whiney Anakin.

just started to catch up with the show again..

i REALLY liked the two parter with Dooku, lots of premonition

for episode 3 going on,

and the banter/friendship between obi-wan and anakin was great....

YES, there was some jar jar slapstick going on, but it wasn't too bad..

good to see the show is off to a strong start this year..

can't wait until there are more episodes coming to watch...

The show can at least proudly boast of being significantly better than the last two prequels. They were barren and empty and soulless and numb, with a supremely unlikable main character. The show isn't like that. It's got a fair amount in common in spirit with the cheerful but shallow antics of The Phantom Menace.

Are you starting to like it then???

I think you are.....Don't be ashamed....embrace it man....embrace it and enjoy it!!

:-)

I'm still digging it. Shame Ahmed Best didn'r reprise his role for Jar Jar, but the new voice sounded pretty good!

Wait, he didn't?  Hadn't he been up to this point, though?

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

lol Yeah, I think I would've liked to see Ahmed best do Jar Jar. Hell, he even did it for robot chicken, not sure why he didn't reprise the role.

Just for the one Jar Jar centric episode it seems.

And I agree with -1......I'm loving this show. So far it's far exceeded all my expectations.

Sorry, but it kicks ass over the old Clone Wars cartoon!!

Great stuff!!

I wouldn't go that far. And there are still seriously annoying things in it. Like how the Jedi are often portrayed as a bunch of posers. So far Fisto, Luminara and Aayla have been portrayed as posers.

Are you guys ready for the old dvd triple dip.

Lucasfilm is releasing 2, 4 episode compilations and later a full boxset of the first season of clone wars.

Instead of just putting out a complete boxset of all the currently aired episodes, or just waiting to put the rest in the same boxset.

If you can get clone wars for free streamed on Lucasfilm.com and also by less reputable methods while would you pay like 40 bucks for a boxset?

I mean the commentaries on the official site are all awful, In Every one Filoni is a total fanboy who worships at the altar of the almighty lucas, lol.

I may get the set eventually.  Still have not seen the Episode where Jeniffer Hale aka Bastilla Shan, voices Aayla Secura.

Another Lucasfilm Bioware connection.

Also i read that one of the upcoming Episodes was scripted by Katie Lucas.  That is right you guessed it Lucas daughter.  Apparently she has been on the writing staff as an intern for 2 and a half years and now is a permanent member of the writing staff, and is working on star wars.  Clone Wars.  Still could she direct a star wars movie in the future?

I hope her writing skills are better than her dear old dad's on the prequels and indiana jones IV.  He did some good writing with a lot of help on the original star wars trilogy, so i guess the other half can be forgiven.  Too bad all we got to remind us of the past greatness of star wars and george was the gout in 2006.

Katie Lucas. Here she is in the role she played in ROTS:

She was most prominent in one of those awful scenes with Padme's pals trying to start the rebellion. She was really bad in that scene. As such, I'm not terribly enthusiastic about her input into the show.

Writing and acting are two very different skillsets. Her acting abilities tell nothing of her writing abilities, and it is her writing that will be in the Clone Wars series. Hopefully for the sake of CW fans she is a good writer. Even if she isn't, the chances of her NOT writing another episode are pretty nearly zero, what with her being the great bearded ones daughter and all.

thats good, because as you should appreciate, not everyone liked EVERY episode,

this way they can just pick and choose..

If you can get clone wars for free streamed on Lucasfilm.com and also by less reputable methods while would you pay like 40 bucks for a boxset?

if you can get it for free, you would already have the superior 720p HDTV rips, which

the dvd's will never be able to match, and you wouldn't bother buying the boxset, so

why even make this point?

I may get the set eventually. Still have not seen the Episode where Jeniffer Hale aka Bastilla Shan, voices Aayla Secura.

well they just showed it, and she did a very good job... try it, you'll like it!

I like Jeniffer Hale, she was great in Mass Effect...but I didnt really like Secura, maybe it was the accent.

Bringing out mini volumes of a few episodes at a time on DVD would be a great idea IF reasonably priced, but seems they wont be.

do you guys buy everything on the first day from the most expensive stores?

ever heard of promo sales? ever buy stuff from amazon? ever get stuff off ebay?

there are plenty of sale/promotions for people that are patient and wait instead

of buying them on the first day from 'overpriced retail seller'....

c'mon, i know you guys know all this stuff...

you could 'rent' them you know, there are other options..

at least complain about other things, the price is hardly the problem at this point..

by the way, i stand corrected, they'll also be in blu#**$#*&ray format...

So your stance is "I'm fine with the ridiculous cost because i intend to pirate them anyway" ?

[for the record I don't intend to purchase these, just making an observation.]

Yeah, you can pick and choose within four episode blocks. What if you just like one out of the four episodes and dislike the other three? I just don't see much to appreciate there. Really doesn't bother me because I'd have no interest in buying these anyway, but it is an obvious double dipping.

yea, i finally caught up. i forgot when the new episodes started again. last episode, the battles were breathtaking. i wish they did aayla secura's voice different. i imagined her as more of a teenager when reading the novels. like seventeen or something. awsome start to a new year.

Writing and acting both depend on the same personality and attitudes. Like her attitude on what's fit for Star Wars. I hear she's supposed to have written Jedi Crash and I found that episode annoying, with those annoying little alien twerps with their moral posing and Aayla being annoying.

I did not want to see the movie in theater but I must say that I like the TV series. It's a cool show for kids and it is, more or less, smart enough to please the adult fans too. I even laugh at the "Jedi Jar Jar" episode, that's saying a lot... (I also kind of like the rodian "Lando-like" character in that episode. Nice reminder of the OT.)

From time to time the show even takes the worst little irritating things that the fans hated in the PT and turn them into good fun. Of course it don't turn the PT to gold, but making interesting little stories in the PT world is all we can ask from a show like that.

All in all, a nice surprise.
