That is freakishly awesome, Ady. What did you do to the asteroids to make them look so good?
New clip coming soon......
Hey Ady,
I was mistaken about the smaller AT-AT guns not firing. I watched the 2004 box set of Empire and noticed that they did fiire, but it was kind hard to catch. Perhaps you could make them more noticeable.
Btw, you seem to avoid responding to any of my inquiries, what gives?

sorry. I've had a look back a few pages but i can't see them. Can you repost what you originally said because they seem to have got lost with everything that's been posted lately
And here's the new clip. it's only brief but it's a new sequence i've just been working on.
New Asteroid sequence Split Screen Comparison - XVID -approx 17mb
Enjoy...

^Unless I missed something, the asteroids look the same to me, just color corrected.
The thing I get a kick out of is the camera shake. That makes a massive difference. Watch the guys flinging themselves around with no shake and it just looks funny now. It's almost like they meant to do a camera shake and forgot.
Another big difference is when they're going into the asteroid and Leia is saying "what looks pretty good?" Look at the top windows in the cockpit in the original version. It's almost like the windows are greasy and it's making the blue tint more evident. Ady's is cleaned up nicely. :)

you haven't seen the new clip then. thats the old one you mention which was only colour corrected. This one is a different scene and every FX shot is new. The new one i posted up here^^^^^^^^
It looks like the asteroid belt is tilting more - er, the Falcon is tilting more - you know what I mean.
My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

yeh. In the original shot, to me, it looked like the Falcon just bobbed up and down in the cockpit window shot so i wanted to make it look like it was actually flying into the asteroid field and that it was dodging the asteroids.

the whole background asteroid field i had to rebuild from scratch. The original was just a doubled matte and looked blurred. then there is about 30+ different layers of asteroids added on top to fill the background and give it more depth. The on top of that there are all the single larger asteroids added. The each layer has to have a separate motion path given to match the main motion of the shot. all in all the cockpit shot alone had almost 100 different layers to create it. Even my quad core struggled to render all that so i am so glad i dropped the 1080p idea because i now know it would have been impossible.
The whole asteroid sequence is having a makeover so be prepared. lol
I'm not gay or anything, but can I give you a kiss on the Lips! Bloody Brilliant(I'm not even British lol)
That must Have Taken alot Of Work as you said above. Look forward to the changes(For the better I hope lol)
AND HERE IS THE YOUTUBE LINK(May not yet be processed.)
The person your searching for simply does not exist

thanks for putting that up Josh.
I would recommend watching the download version though because Youtubes compression completely destroys the effect.

B'oh! Yes, sorry about that. See, I already downloaded that, then placed it in a folder on my desktop called 'ESB Re extras.' What I watched was an older video called 'asteroid_chase_comparison' rather than the proper one. :p I'm going to watch it now.
*watching it now*
Wawaweewa! :D Now that's a densely populated, sharp-looking asteroid field. Very nice, sir!

I just stumbled across this thread for your revisited version of ESB, and I must say I'm looking forward to it, because ANH Revisited was amazing.
I respect your stance of not wanting to cram your Revisited version of ESB with Expanded Universe references, but how can you say that it doesn't exist to you? There are well over 100 novels, an even greater number of comics, and a smattering of short stories and other various pieces of Expanded Universe literature, many of which show scenes from this very movie.
I think you're selling Star Wars as a franchise short by discounting so much work by talented authors, artists, desigeners, etc, claiming that it doesn't exist to you.
That being said, I hope you don't take this as a personal attack, rather just my concern that making such a bold statement about the Star Wars EU is a little troubling.
Again, I can't wait to see Empire Revisited, and I hope your work progresses smoothly.

I Think you have misunderstood what i mean by that. The EU doesn't exist to me within the realms of creating the Revisited saga. in my personal life i don't discount the EU at all. It was just that there started to be so many suggestions for additions or fixes because it either didn't fit in with or was part of the EU that i had to make that statement before things got out of hand.

Ahh, alright then. =) My most sincere apologies if I sounded like I was attacking your viewpoint, I was speaking as a concerened fan, and I very much appreciate that you took the time to address my concern.
^That's a nice exchange right there, boys. I like to see co-operation here rather than the downward turn people's opinions can sometimes lead to. :p
I must say that I wouldn't really want to see any EU stuff in the Revisited movies either (but wouldn't complain either way), especially as a lot of EU and PT stuff feels like it was just tacked on after the fact to make certain scenes and references more 'convenient.' Know what I mean?
Having said that, I once read 10 Star Wars novels in the span of around a I-have-WAY-too-much-time-on-my-hands month and a half! I do not recommend such a thing. I don't remember any of it, and all the details got mashed together. That was just over 10 years ago and I've read probably less than half a dozen since then. Haha. The prequels (especially TPM) really did kill my love for Star Wars for a long time. Long live OT.com!
Haha. I consider myself well-versed in all aspects (except comics and smaller novels) of the EU and core canon. 75+ Star Wars books. W00t. And no real trouble keeping all the info straight. :D
I just hosted a Star Wars marathon, and when we watched episode V I kept in mind a lot of the changes discussed here. It was incredibly amusing to see glitches and bloopers that I had never noticed before: Luke's bobbing head, the AT-AT issues, etc. And of course the coloring. Makes me all the more eager for V Revisited. : )
^What is this 'Luke's bobbing head' thing you mention? The Dagobah crash?
Ripplin said:^What is this 'Luke's bobbing head' thing you mention? The Dagobah crash?
i think its the carbon chamber scene when Luke jumps down and then you can see his head bob back up
When I was a kid, I had the Special Edition Trilogy VHS box set, with the little commentary thing at the beginning of each movie, and as such, the biggest error I remember about Empire was the transparant Snowspeeder cockpits, because they showed a bunch of comparison shots of that gaffe during the commentary.

Indeed. Thanks for the clarification, Ady.

Oh man- I totally forgot about that- we had the same box set. I remember that segment- they made a big deal about how they fixed all that- did they just do a half-complete job?
As far as I know, the special edition itself fixed that transparacy issue, at least I didn't notice it. The only time it was still there was in that commentary segment, when they showed the original 1980 film.
I miss that set sometimes...i watched it SOOO much...
When we watched V (2004 Edition) only a few hours ago, I did still notice some slight transparency. It wasn't nearly as bad as it seemed to be pre-SE though.

yeh, i still have those box sets. I remember thinking how great it was that the cockpits are no longer transparent. it wasn't until i started Revisited that i realised that what they said was totally and utter lies. All they did was slightly change the black level and didn't re-composite the shots at all. I decided to re watch that clip where they showed the difference before and after because i thought that the 2004 DVD's may have mistakenly used the unfixed footage. but i couldn't believe that , even though they show a before and after comparison and say how they fixed it, that the 2 shots were exactly the same but with different black levels.
Actually, if you look at these comparisons closely, the cockpit is more transparent in the SE version than it is in the Original. You can clearly see the outline of the AT-AT through the cockpit, especially its neck and foot, strut in the SE but you can't so much in the GOUT
i really wish i could get hold of the original elements so i could re-composite them properly but that's never going to happen, sadly.
Are you going to have to isolate the cockpit itself (like with a still frame) to stop the transparency? Of course, there are shadows, so if the cockpit is a still frame the shadows and light would always stay the same, but there must be a way.
