I know I sound like a broken record, but I still think Fett has absolutely no place in ROTJ.

A very interesting comment Adywan has just recently made on his EMPIRE:R thread is this -

The whole skiff battle will have some re-edits done to it, and I want to change Boba's death if I actually keep him in the movie, but using Jango for footage just isn't an option.

Without Ady having to elaborate on his JEDI:R edit too much at this point, with this open-ended acknowledgement, it seems he plans to do something to change the existing scene.

While I'm not sure yet if I prefer the idea of no Boba in JEDI, as opposed to a better-edited version which includes him (i.e. perhaps without the ridiculous screaming and less 'flailing' arms and legs when his jetpack is set off by Han, and without a 'burping' Sarlacc), I'm just pleased at this point that Adywan will be improving things somewhat from the way things currently are, no matter what he prefers to do.

Personally, I always wished that the great character of Boba Fett had originally been given some sort of possible reprieve in JEDI, and would have liked him not to be shown to fall into the Sarlacc's mouth at all after he crashed into the side of Jabba's Sail Barge (or at least have exited thanks to his jetpack just after), but had instead been then glimpsed being caught up somewhat in the Barge explosion blast as our heroes escape on their skiff...with a question mark about whether he may have barely survived (although taking a good blast) by flying outwards just in time...

I'll restate my opinion of Fett here:

Boba has been hanging out at Jabba's palace just standing there next to Han in Carbonite for no reason really.  No more bounty hunting for a year?  Sure, he probably got tons of cash for bringing Jabba Han and an art piece all at once (the only thing I liked about Shadows of the Empire was Fett twisting Jabba for more money, and that only in the comics), but why would he stick around and not spend the money, or if he lives for the hunt, you know, hunting?

Every shot before he leaves Jabba's side because he senses Luke is going to try something is an insert shot with no other characters in it except for the SE shot of him hitting on a dancer for absolutely no reason.

The only things he does in the movie (not including the SE) is raise his gun at Boush, nod at her afterwards from the same position, walk up to the deck of the sail barge, fly over, shoot and miss at Luke two or three times, get hit in the jetpack (accidentally), scream (not sounding like either the original Boba voice or Temura Morrison), slam against the side of the sail barge, and roll down into the Sarlacc's mouth.

I think Fett should show up in ESB to do a bounty hunting job, catch Solo, then leave.  He did his job, its nothing personal.  He doesn't need to stick around, and he definately didn't need to be killed off, especially if Lucas says that he intended to have a shot of Fett crawling back out.  The easiest way to have Fett not be a threat in the rest of the movie isn't to kill him, its to not have him in it at all.  Maybe have him be a looming threat, because maybe he didn't get paid yet and now wants revenge on Han, or something.  Lucas should have thought of that, but he changes his story all the time, I'm sure Fett was meant to be dead in the Sarlacc when he filmed it.

But that's my opinion, of course.

Another RotJ question though:

Sarlacc, with mouth or without?  I know it looks kind of like Audrey II, but I honestly think the mouth thing helps with the danger instead of being just a hole with teeth.  Did it need to be done?  Of course not.  Do I think it improves the scene?  I think so.

EDIT: I forgot that Boba tries to tie up Luke with some rope, then gets knocked over.

Yes doubleofive, he was criminally mis-used overall in JEDI.  It will be interesting to see what everyone says about Boba's inclusion or otherwise when it comes nearer the time, and especially interesting to see what Adywan eventually decides on.

I can go either way with it at this point, but if he's totally removed, it would mean losing some neat footage of Boba's abilities where his jetpack and attachments are concerned.

Time will tell.

In the meantime, let me wish you and everyone else a very Happy New Year.  I look forward to many other good suggestions here in the future. :)

I can live with the addition of the beak, just change the sound FX.  We're talking about a critter than can swallow human beings the way we swallow peanuts.  Its vocalizations, such as they are, should sound a little more threatening than a pissed off seagull.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

why does everyone care about a minor character so much. Please just keep him there. He was put there for a reason to complete his saga character (which is minor)

You obviously care a lot about him. Otherwise you wouldn't mind if he was taken out. But he was originally put in there to please Fett fans; it had nothing to do with the story arc of his character (there was none at that point).

I think we all like Fett, and we want him to be treated respectfully. If he has to die, we want it to be a good death. If necessary, someone with an accurate Fett costume could act out some bits (I know some people in the 501st).

Regarding the Sarlacc beak, I could live without it, but the beak version might be necessary because of the poor quality of the GOUT.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

Adywan I thought you said that the OT only needed minor fixes, taking Boba out of Jedi seems to me a major change. (yes he himself is a minor character but his impact on star wars is huge)

I just dont want these movies changed in ways they dont need to be. Taking Boba out is pointless. Who cares if he goes out like a punk?

Many, many fans do. Boba fett was never supposed to have been in ROTJ. He was only added because he became a fan favourite. The thing is GL didn't know what to do with him. At the time, in '83, everyone i knew hated the way Boba died. It just seems a childish slapstick moment. If GL didn't know what to do with him then he should have left him out. Having Boba in the PT was the same thing. The whole jango/ Boba storyline was only put in because he was a fan favourite. Lets not forget we were to have originally seen a young Han solo and we saw a young Greedo (TPM deleted scene) plus a few other things thrown in for nothing more than fanwank.

Jedi was the weakest of the OT and almost on par with the PT in my books. It was just a rehash of ANH for the most part so that one i have always said needs the most work done on it. Even the opening is a clone of ANH.  The PT will be ripped apart so PT fans i would advise you to stay well clear of my Revisited edits. ;)

i would like to see boba given a new death, decapitation in the heat of a battle would be awesome but really difficult i could imagine.

on a metaphorical level one could see it as boba recieving the same fate as his father as he didnt change his ways, as luke runs the danger of perhaps?

I like that. The shot of Luke cutting that guy's weapon after he says "get the gun" etc. would be great for decapitating Boba instead. (how you do that and how you get Boba onto the barge I have no idea!)

I agree RoTJ needs loads of work.

The Starkiller Ranch thread has loads of ideas on how to deal with it ranging from returning it back the way it was meant to be with multiple Death Stars and involving Coruscant and all kinds of stuff.

Now if only we could get wookies ;] haha

I have a feeling ROTJ:R will be a very divisive edit ...

I'd even be happy if Ady left ROTJ alone except for the STUPID belches and Tarzan yell! Those bug me to no end! Leave Boba as-is for all I care as long as those moments are excised from history. Haha.

Those moments sort of indicate how the PT was going to go, kinda like the first track on Van Halen's album 1984 ("1984") indicated how they were going, whether Dave had stayed or not. :p But who knows, really? Sammy is as Sammy does.

I just hope Ady keeps the SE scene of Boba flirting with the chick. Seriously, that was cool.

Hey, even bounty hunters get horny.

What really needs to be fixed is Boba's range finder on the wrong side of his helmet in Jabba's palace. It annoys me beyond belief.

As for his death, I think I agree with ImperialFighter:

No ridiculous screaming                                                                                                                                                                                                         Less 'flailing' arms and legs when his jetpack is set off by Han Solo on the skiff.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              No No 'burping' Sarlacc

Do this and I think a large majority will finally accept the scene.

Before Jedi I thought Fett would work for anyone if the price was right (something that Kenner played on when introducing the action figure to the ranks of their plastic people collection).

It would have been much more interesting seeing him working with the Rebels and getting them the Death Star location information instead of the unseen Bothan spies, that would have created a bit of tension between Leia, Han, Lando and whoever hired him which would have added a bit of depth to story.

But doing that would take a huge amount of work if it was even remotely possible.

I'd much prefer to see a more dignified death for the guy than have him removed entirely.
