That musically journey dvd was awesome as well as dissapointing. Dissapointing because it brought up the fact that Sony won't put out 5.1 audio releases of the soundtracks for all six films.
DVD audio releases could have been done.
All we get are the stereo direct stream digital versions of the original trilogy as a special edition release.
Not everyone likes the prequels or the special editions and people should be able to get just the original trilogy released as two flavors the stereo or 5.1 . Oh yeah and sony has to do remasters of empire and jedi from the original sources that were discovered only after the soundtracks were already done for the special editions.
As it is star wars is the only special edition soundtrack taken from a first generation source and mixed properly.
As it is i just watched the original trilogy segments and skipped the prequels with my dvd remote. It would be even better if a fan could put together a musical journey of the original 3 films using the gout, wait a minute i think that has already been done by editdroid with their isolated soundtracks, before the gout was released, lol.
My soundtrack collection is i listen to the sony or rca releases double disc which i own they are virtually identical. despite the dsd encoding sony claims the discs have, they play on a regular cd player as a regular cd. I made my own 2 disc return of the jedi from both the anthology box and the 2 disc special edition release. I left Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back alone. But Jedi Rocks had to be binned and so did the new end theme, although at one point i considered that as a bonus track but out it went. I put back Lapti nek, and yub nub and tryed to sequence the tracks in film order to the best of my ability following both the lukas Kendal notes and Michael matessino's.
It is no longer on my hard disc but i also recreated the original double vinyl albums using the first cd releases of star wars and empire strikes back and the anthology set and followed the order the tracks were on the original liner notes of the LP vinyl albums. I never did own a rip of the vinyl tracks until much later somebody on these boards posted them on demonoid but i lost them when my hard disk crashed.
I had no scanner and a way to copy those booklets so i just listened to the scores on my cd player and read the liner notes on the lp album.
Much later they supposedly reproduced the original liner notes and disc art on a cdrom bonus on the saga john williams boxset. But i was not going to rebuy the cds again that i already had for the corellian edition cd sampler and the cdrom and new limited vader box. So the cd's look like mini lps with the FOX labels and that rhino records label on empire strikes back. Big deal the music was not remastered, the content was the same. Plus the new release had bad cardboard sleeves that could scratch the discs and no jewel cases. Yes the rca releases (only on the limited sets with liner notes) also were done this way but that is still no excuse.
