Okay I don't know if it's too late to make these revisions or if they could even be done at all but I finally got a chance to record some stuff off the Empire dvd. Here are my pet peeves none of which were fixed in 1997 or 2004.

That lame symettrical ceiling. Yeah I just don't like it. This is supposed to be in a hidden base that I assume was hastily assembled. It looks too well made and professionally done. And I don't like the design either. Boring!

The wall behind C3P0. It seems like it's supposed to be a cave wall carved out of ice. Instead it looks like a cheap set of prefabricated plastic molded to look like a cave wall. Would there be any way you could make the wall look more like ice instead of shiny plastic?

And this one really gets me. When the Millenium Falcon is inside the asteroid worm it displays this unbelievable ability to shrink itself. This also happens when they escape the mother ship from Independence Day. I just hate how the audience is basically told "from this scale there's no way they can escape *wait* the scale has been changed and the ship is a lot smaller in the next shot. They're going to make it after all." It just seems like it's cheating.

In other words the scale of the cockpit window to the worm's teeth does not match up with the exterior shot scale of the ship slipping through the teeth.

Well it appears I'm having trouble getting the images to show up (again). Hopefully the images can still be accessed. If anyone could offer some pointers they would be appreciated.

The Falcon scale thing is a matter of perspective...literally.  It's hard to tell just how far the Falcon is from the slug's teeth from just the cockpit shots.  There aren't any exterior shots until almost the last second, at which point it's a matter of a few feet away.  Without knowing where in the slug the Falcon is at a given moment, it's hard to say how close or far it is from the teeth.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

It looks like pre-fab construction.  If anything, that's exactly how a hastily put-together base would look.

The wall behind C3P0. It seems like it's supposed to be a cave wall carved out of ice. Instead it looks like a cheap set of prefabricated plastic molded to look like a cave wall. Would there be any way you could make the wall look more like ice instead of shiny plastic?

This one I can kinda see where you are coming from.  It never bugged me, since it looks like someone did some carving with some sort of tool (laser or otherwise) and it looks good enough I never really noticed.  Even then, not sure what you can do with it other than add some slight texturing (like how light glitters off of snow: a good example would be some of the Jor-El Krypton scenes in SMALLVILLE of all places to see what I mean.

And this one really gets me. When the Millenium Falcon is inside the asteroid worm it displays this unbelievable ability to shrink itself. I think the problem is that (without seeing the footage in motion) the mouth is closing too much in the 2 earlier shots compared to the speed the MF is moving towards the teeth.  Either the mouth shot in the 2 first images should be bigger (ie the MF is closer) or the mouth needs to be open more (so when we get the 3rd shot above, the MF speed matches with the mouth closing movement).

If you go by the mouth movement in the first 2 shots, by the time the MF closes the gap it would have hit the already closed mouth and exploded on the inside of the teeth... unless it used its guns to blow one of the teeth out to create an opening for escape.

Thanks for posting those. What did you do to make them appear? I think for the worm it would be better to focus on the frame of the Millenium Falcon cockpit. That's too big to match up with the next exterior shot. So just changing the grid outline (which I think someone has already done in another part of the trilogy) I think would be the easiest way to fix that.

On a totally unrelated topic, that's a bad matte line around the MF in the above pic.  Also, why is the MF's engine white, and the stars blue?

Actually, an even easier way is:
when you post a message, do you notice the grey area above the message area (where the B I U are?)?  Over on the right side you will see 3 symbols: an upside U, a green screen and a blue box.  Click on the green screen (when your mouse cursor goes over it, it should say "insert/edit image") and copy and paste the web address of the picture on the top line that says "Image URL".

All I did was copy and paste each image web address onto that top line with my post, and WALA!  The pics appear!

Also, when you want to break up the grey box that contains a quote from a previous poster, using the "-double quotes character that highlights as "Blockquote".  If someone has a REALLY big post and you want to comment on one thing at a time, you can break up the quote this way and insert your answers so everyone can tell who is who.

On the subject of the base walls looking too shiny or plastic or false...if you compact snow enough, it will turn to ice or become the shiny, plasticky stuff you're seeing on the walls, albeit less plasticky looking. Yes, it's also likely to be due to the restrictions of the time - snow is never the easiest thing to simulate because it is wet, dry, shiny and fake looking all at the same time - but this sort of thing isn't the sort of fix I'd imagine Ady has on his fix list (if it is, then I'll shut up!) but to change the look of the entire base is going to be difficult.

Pre-fab construction is how I'd imagine a small guerilla group creating their base. Dig a hole, drop some container boxes into the ground then cover it with the dirt. This is also witnessed in Terminator 2 when they head to Mexico and also in T3 (I think).

Anyway, back to normal programming....

in regards to that Worm

is there any way to get rid of the teeth?

the line "oh no the cave is collapsing" bugs the crap out of me, its obvious to everyone that its not a cave so why say that line?

Perhaps if the cave had sharper more jagged teeth it wouldn't be so obvious.

Probably because they didn't have Adywan on the case.  This shot will no doubt look terrific in his Empire:R edit!

No I just hate the fact that somebody says "the cave is collapsing" when it is extremely obvious that they are not in a cave.

its just one of those pet peeves I have with it is all

I didn't mean to sound so harsh there BarBar, lol.

I do know what you're getting at, but I've always liked to think that although Han realised that there was something amiss, Leia (who said the line) had never encountered such an entity as this in her experience before, and simply didn't really register / comprehend that those were actual gigantic teeth in the distance, of some monstrous worm they were now inside of, rather than just the asteroid cave they initially entered....

Hope that helps a little.  I'd rather keep the teeth though, than have a 'gumsy' worm, regardless of that line.
