X-Wing Mechanic said:Question:
After the Battle of Hoth Han must break through the imperial blockade of the planet, but when Luke leaves in his X-wing there is no blockade in sight. Any solution to this problem?
Thanks
I never thought this was a problem, because I imagined that, as Luke was left behind (having to WALK back, exhausted, from his crashed Snow Speeder), by the time he got off the planet, the Imperial fleet was long gone, having chased in hot pursuit after the bulk of the fleeing Rebel ships. Even if they had noticed a sole fighter straggler, would they really have considered it important enough to divert their ships to go after it? Ironically, Luke was the main reason Vader was there in the first place (to locate him PERSONALLY before the Emperor sensed him).
If we see any Imperial ships in those shots, it should be off in the far distance, I would think, unaware of Luke. Otherwise, what is ady going to have to do, make a whole scene of Luke's death defying run through the Imperial blockade? At best they would have only left a few ships behind anyway, but why bother when they could just bombard the site from orbit (since the shield was down) to kill any stragglers? But then I guess they wouldn't do that because if Luke was still on the planet he'd be killed, and Vader's whole point was to capture Luke ALIVE (I've come to think the killing of Admiral Ozzel was more of a ruse than any actual mistake on that guy's part, because Vader wanted to forego the bombardment and capture Luke intact, which would have been difficult if the Rebel base was a smoking crater). At this point in the series, only Vader knows that he has a son... the Emperor and everyone else just wants revenge on the Rebels for destroying the Death Star, and to put a permanent end to their plans against the Empire.
