My problem with usenet is usenet itself. I gave it a go, and got several useful things out of it, but it wasn't worth the hassle, even after the initial learning curve. As a totally separate issue, if I'm going to have to pay someone for Adywan's work, why should it be some random corporation instead of Adywan himself?
For the record, I have donated more to Adywan than it would have cost for me to get usenet access for the releases I'm interested in. I make no demands regarding buses or strippers, just a simple request that someone provide the release in the format requested by 50% of the members in Moth3r's recent survey (as opposed to 12.5% who requested usenet). I don't think that's unreasonable, as Adywan, while expressing his personal disinterest in torrents, has never said he doesn't want people doing it.
If it becomes clear that usenet is the only way to get Adywan's releases, I guess I'll have to suck it up and deal with the crappy interface, the corrupted downloads, the wasted disk space, and the fact that I'm paying someone else for Adywan's work, but I'd much rather send another fiver Adywan's way.
