I have the Superman Blue Box Soundtrack Collection... I could provide anything from that. The source for the score of "Superman The Movie" in this collection is different to the older release. Better quality.

Thanks Klok,

Really appreciate that buddy!

This art was created by one of the very nice people at supermanfanart.com. That person has allowed me to post it.

I love this kids particular art. Superman The Movie RKC edited

Does anybody know where on the supermancinema site this KCOP edit is being discussed? I can't seem to find anything mentioned involving Alex S working on a restored version. Also, how is this project coming? Looking forward to seeing all these lost scenes!

 Hey Oldfan!

To get info and clips of Alex's KCOP project, you'll need to go here, but remember you'll need to become a forum member:

We're working on a couple of simultaneous projects right now.

Our KCOP project is going in a different direction than his, so they'll be apples and oranges.  His version looks to be quite ambitious!

Funny! Although I was expecting "More Kryptonian council!!!"

Somebody should take all the footage of Otis walking and synch it up with "Staying Alive". ;)

I was out having dinner tonight, and that same song from the trailer and movie starts playing over the music system! And this was the only pop song in a long stretch of Christmas music. Spooky! ;)

The famous and GREAT editor Alex S. from the Supermancinema boards says he is gonna start his restoration of SUPERMAN - THE MOVIE finally. This BIG NEWS comes years after he originally began talking about it.  The word is was that he had heard someone else was doing it and wanted in on the action. He has better transfers (1st gens copies of all the film, Beta transfers, original ABC transfers, etc... etc...etc... ) they are better than any of mine. I couldn't possibly top the great ALEX S. in anything releated to Superman. The guy simply is the number one Superman fan ever and that is no lie. He said to even have an original copy of the master from the Tv cut to use on his restoration. So this will be a true restoration.

However, we are still gonna create ours. We are in this for the fun of it! I am happy that he is finally gonna do it I was tired of waiting.  The wating was the main reason why we started ours.  Good for him!

As far as our edit goes, we are working on it as I type. I am so looking forward to finally having a clean cut of the film. Keep in mind that our edit will be majorily inferior to the great Alex s.

Hope everyone stays interested in our edit. If you are interested, however, in a real restoration head on over to supermancinema and check out Alex S.

Thanks guys.

We will try not to let you down on our edit and will do our best. ;-)  We hope to have an edit that will be a good version while we wait patiently for the greatest restoration of our time. ALEX Ss'

This is the first I've heard of this project, Mitch. I was actually going to start it in '07, but I found out almost a year ahead of time that the complete soundtracks to the films were to be released, so I waited to have a definitive source for the music.

WB recently released a 4 in 1 dvd set of the SM films (http://video.barnesandnoble.com/search/product.asp?r=1&EAN=883929035410&ourl=DVD%2FSuperman%2D4%2DFilm%2DFavorites) which contain the theatrical version along w/ the original sound. It's cheaper than getting the mega sets of STM. Maybe you can use that as your sound source.

Anyways... ummm... yeah.... Keep ut to good work and I'd love to see your edit once finished.

 Hey Alex,

WOW! its so cool to hear from you.  Yourself, Superman homepage, Jim Bowers of Capedwonder and Supermancinema have been instrumental throught the years keeping Superman front and at attention to the Superman community. I am really excited about the top notch project you've got going over on your website (PLUG -  www.supermanii.com) Thanks so much for the little hint on the WB release and thanks for the great comments.

Coming from you, that means a ton.

Stay Super!

As far as I know it doesn't come from CW. The image of Superman I found on someones myspace page through a google image search. And the sky background comes from a stock images site I used. So no "stealing, or intention to steal" from CW went down. I am a big advocate of fanworks getting proper credit, so if any images are ever used, I try to get permission for them.

Hey Ed,  I am sure if you used any of Capedwonders art it wasn't with intention. I know you very well and you are an excellent artist, just make sure you double check on photos you may be using because without proper permission we are not original. Thanks man!

I didn't use any of Caped Wonders finished images, that is certain. My cover is an original creation using a photo of Superman and a Stock photo of a sky. I have seen the image of superman on several different backgrounds on several different websites. I am assuming the superman image is a WB pic? Unless of course somehow CW owns the rights to certain Superman imagery, which I find doubtful.

What brought this up anyways? Was their a complaint? or does CW have the market on fan imagery?

Yeah, no problem.

I just definantly don't want to step on anyone elses toes. I HATE when my work is used for other purposes than intended, and don't want anyone to get the idea that I took any of CW's work.

The image of Superman was created by Jim Bowers of CapedWonder, but it was used in the lenticular case for The Ultimate Collection box set- which he was involved w/ in creating the art design so I think it's pretty much open game.

Hey, this place is swell. I had never been here before... I think. I found it because I was looking at my website stats and noticed links coming from here. I can't wait to see some of the SW edits.

Ya! This place is very cool! I have been a member for several years now and it gets better every year. Some fans have done some amazing edits with Star Wars as well as other fan edits and restorations. Like your site, it's also a cool place to hang out and talk with people who enjoy the same things as you do. Glad you bacame a member!

He created the image? Is it a cgi rendering or a painting? He did a great job if that's the case.

Wait. Your Alex from supermancinema right? Nice to see you again. It's probably obvious who I am.

Too bad the extended tv cut of Superman only exists as a 16mm pan and scan flat print.

I once saw the abc cut up on ebay it went for hundreds of dollars and the print was fairly faded.

I did not bid on the print since it was pan and scan and i would have had no way to get it transfered since it is a copywritten motion picture film.

The guy who bought it if he has a projector must be pretty pleased with his find.

Still even a faded 16mm dupe tv station print is better than a vhs tape recording of 1980s vintage.

Too bad Mitch does not have access to one.

Is saw some of the cleaned up Alex S footage on Capedwonder.

Looks almost like when it first aired on tv.  I wonder if you can ever really get dvd quality from this source?

I myself am still looking for a recording of the supergirl broadcast with those scenes found in no other version of the film.

Years ago i bought my Sister the limited anchor bay 2 disc release.  Which had the international version and directors cut.  Though i would have liked to have given her the tv cut and the theatrical us version as well they are not on dvd.

I find it funny the first time i saw superman was the extended tv cut, it was the same with dune and star trek II.  The dune cut made its way to dvd officially but Wrath of Khan and Superman tv cuts are still only fan preservations.

I was dissapointed when i first saw the extended donner cut on tcm thinking it was a cleaned up version of the salkind international tv cut or kcop/abc version and then i realised the music was different the sound effects were different and it was missing a ton of material.

Too this day this is the only cut available on Blu Ray.  As I believe Richard Donner has come to see this as his finished cut similar to how Robert Wise viewed his own star trek dvd cut.

I don't know why they refused to restore the theatrical sound mix as it was released in six track mag and would have been awesome on dvd.  Even the stereo dolby mix could have benefitted from going back to the master tapes.  It is really a shame the best sound presentation for Superman the Movie was in 1978.  The best it ever sounded on home video was on the Uncompressed PCM theatrical track on Japan Laserdisc.  Which is nearly impossible to find now.

Unless of course you could get your hands on theatrical 35mm film prints and get someone to transfer the audio, lol.  If i remember correctly Donner said the original mix elements were in too poor shape to be reused on the newly created mix.  He obviously meant the original seperate discrete elements and not the master tape derived from them.  Yeah that would have meant a generation loss but better than not having the audio mix people loved in 1978.

Even the super8mm digest version need to be preserved on dvd.  I wonder what scenes are featured in the cutdowns?

I wish i was rich and could somehow Get a hold of a three strip dye technicolor print of Superman with the Six track mag, that and star wars, lol.
