Star Wars Saga: Silent Film Edition (Released) — Page 6

This is turning into my favorite edit so far!  I've always had a mental block when it came to the Prequals coming before the Original Trilogy relating to time.  It was two shiny, clean, and modern to actually believe it took place before the events of Luke, Han, and Leia.  Now it is more of a dream or vision, as if this is what Obi-wan is visualizing when he's describing the clone wars.   It forces the issue that this takes place in the past, at least for me, and that short clip proved it.

I do like the colored filter look too, very much.  Just like newspaper changes color when it get's old, black and white is too clean.  In fact, I would not object to the yellow filter, the whole way through, but I know you are planning to change the tint depending on the scene.

Thanks jedi_jra. :)

In fact I'm planning to do the old treatment to the original trilogy, too. Because to me this edit is one big movie. But I understand your feeling about the prequels being like an old dream vision.

As for the yellow tint. Well, it's the same tint as the other test clips and pictures that I posted before. And it is indeed a bit yellow. The real sepia color is in fact much more close to red, and I feel this "B&W/yellow" tint is quite good to be the main color of this version of my edit.  Maybe the clean environment of the Obi/Maul duel gives another feeling to it.

I thought the yellowish color was only because it was setting the mood for the battle. I kinda wish the color was like those old clips you posted, of the ship landing and the viceroy and Sidious... I like it more brownish. The yellowish is ok, but I don't think I'd like it as the dominant coloring.

Mmmm, I think you're right Ripplin... I thought I was the same color but, not. This one is indeed more yellow. The other was too, but not that much. Well, I like this tint, but I think less yellow could be good to be the main color. And it will show more difference with the yellow/orange tint of the exterior scenes of Tatooine.

Unfortunatly I lost my old tint, but I'll try to recreate it. Just need less yellow I think.

About the text cards: I have done a test with the blue tinted scene with text cards tinted B&W/yellow and it don't feel right to me. Maybe a true B&W text will be good.

In a way it makes sens that the world was clean and shiny before the wars. I think Lucas wanted to show us this world at its peak of splendor. Curves and colors of the prequels are replaced by grey tint and flat lines in the OT, once the Empire takes control.

I think I'm going to erase the rapidshare links from my first post. I don't want this site to have troubles like fanedit.org just has... The torrents link will last a few days and I'll close it, too. Then if some wants the clean black and white version they'll have to PM me to get RS links.

I hope Episode 1 dusty version will be finished tomorow. So the work on EP2 can begin!

I didn't know about FE.org until I read your last post. Very sad! At least the community is still alive and well. All work on edits will continue and people will still be able to get them; it will just be different. ;)

Good to hear that you are making nice progress on the dusty versions. :)

what?  Fanedit.org is gone?  Really?  The law is fudcked up here, really it is.  It's not piracy if yo uown the original movie, but - then a gain - I have downloaded a few, ashamedly, that I don't onw the original of.  So, goodbye fanedit.org - you will be remembered.

Episode 2 "Dusty" version is done (I only need a screening to be sure of it). There's no big changing tint in this episode exept for Tatooine exteriors and another little part of the movie.

Work is almost finished on EP3, I hope. Big changing tint from a planete to another, maybe a bit "over the top" by the time of order 66, but for now I think it works.

Next I'll need to learn how to add a choice between two audio mix in a DVD menu.

Forget about my last posts...

I think I will try a new 4:3 version. I know, I change my mind everyday! I think it could work in 4:3, cause I find the way to choose what I want to show on screen:

Notice that in full 4:3, there will be some bluring effect to the picture. But it looks old and that's what I want!

Now I have to deal with the dialogue cards issue...

Just a thought, aren't there already official Pan-&-Scan releases you could use as a base?  I don't know, but merely a thought.

I'm sure there are but I know acquiring them would require money on his part...

When he said "I think it could work in 4:3, cause I find the way to choose what I want to show on screen," I take that to mean that he will crop it the way he wants. if he got a pre-existing 4:3, he couldn't really do anything with it if he plans to show different portions of the picture.

Good to hear, This is kind of where I was hoping you'd go visually, in terms odf an 'old film' appearance.

Exactely, the only problem if I crop one side of a picture would be when there is a camera movement that ends with something on the other side (cause I still did not find a way to animate the cropping, that would add a kind of new camera movement. That would be helpful sometimes, but I think I can do the edit without it anyway.)

Just a thought, aren't there already official Pan-&-Scan releases you could use as a base?  I don't know, but merely a thought.

Aside from the fact that I could not crop what I want, I cuted the original 16:9 sources in 4or 5 parts before integrate them in the montage program (because my premiere pro 2 was really slow when I tried to work on just one full movie video as source.) So if I would use a Pan-Scan source I would need to cut the same exact parts in order to replace my 16:9 sources. And I would need to make new video alpha for my old filter etc... Well, I feel it will brings more problems than solutions.

The wish for a 4:3 treatment always comes first when I talk to someone about this version, so I thought about it and, even if it was not a priority to me, now I think that this version needs to be as different to the clean version as it can. And people that will download the 2 versions would not feel to have twice the same product.

EDIT: now I know how to animate my cropping! So I can add "new" camera movements! Of course it needs to remains subtle, and only when I don't have the choice.
