Good point, negativeone.
It was never like this with ANH:R. People just accepted what Ady was planning to do, and went along with it (well, apart from the great flipper debate that is).
No offense, Hotrod, but if adywan had wanted that (and I know you don't speak for him), he should NOT have come to the forums and opened a feedback topic for his edits.
He should have just ignore the forums, and released it. No fuss, no muss.
Rather, he ASKED for feedback and took an INTEREST in what people were saying about this. Otherwise, why bother... it's not as if 99.99999% of the people here are doing jack squat to help him with his edit (apart, from I guess the people who sent him money to buy new hardware).
So it's his fault, for asking, and he should take the "good" (praise) with the "bad" (questioning, criticism).
And Bewy you wrote:
I've been following this topic for a few months, even let a post (which no one obviously noticed but never mind :D), and I've got to say that for the people who read the post it's REALLY BORING that some continue to question Adywan's choices again and again, it's a real pain so there's something that should be done.
THEN STOP READING IT? The point of this thread isn't to entertain you personally, it's to discuss and give feedback on this fan edit that Adywan is working on. And I beg your pardon if your post was directed at me (since I'm the just latest person to question one of adywan's decisions, which there's no rule against), but I'm not just questioning his choices "again and again," I'm giving reasons for why I think there's a better way than what he's said he's going do to.
To another person, if the point is that it's just his edit and leave him alone, then there's no point in discussing it at all. He should NOT explain why he's doing something, just do it. Instead, it seems he genuinely wants to justify to the public, why he's doing this or that. Again, if he didn't want anyone to express disagreement, all he had to do would be to just keep it "secret" until release time and then just put it out there, take it or leave it (like Lucas did with his Special Editions).
Adywan himself doesn't have to listen to anything anyone says here, or he can listen to it and not do what people say, or (as in the case of the "great flipper debate") he can change his mind and come up with a NEW solution that ends up being even better than either his original plan OR what "people wanted."
Just think, if nobody had said jack squat, he'd have had that first painted flipper in ANH:R right now. I personally think the severed human hand (his own hand) looks fantastic! So the "Great Flipper Debate" had a positive outcome, which probably wouldn't have happened if we'd all followed the mantra of "don't criticise or question, don't tell him what to do, it's his edit, blah blah blah."
I've seen projects END because the person creating it was doing it purely for fame and praise, and when the "heat" got to him from people making requests or not agreeing with him, he pulled the plug and went away sulking. I think because of that fact, some people are scared that Adywan will do that, unless they're super nice to him and agree with everything he says.
But we've already seen PROOF that ady is NOT one of those types of people. He went through how many years of feedback with ANH? And he released it! He's still here. And unless tragedy strikes, he's going to be doing ROTJ:R in 2011-12!
So please, don't be afraid to make a suggestion or criticism, because you fear that he'll quit, or that it'll "delay the project" while he argues with someone. These projects take years to complete, so his interacting with us isn't going to signifcantly slow him down. If anything, he should have ignored us, because we've pointed out stuff that he now wants to tinker with, that he might not have, had he not talked to us! So all our suggestions (even the good ones) are slowing down the project! Relax.
If you can't handle the "drama," log off and come back this time next year to download it and be surprised. ;)
I don't have a problem with Adywan, just the people who think we should refrain from posting, for fear of offending him and jeopardizing the project.
