It's the Trade Federation all over again.... :p
ImperialFighter said:adywan said:This is how it will look in ESB:R. Taken from my colour corrected version:
I think this is the best possible look for the Executor - make all the side lights blue and make the ship blue-grey. That way it stands out but doesn't STAND OUT (though, Ady, you may want to add some blue lighting on the concave underbelly area, since those look a little dim in this shot).
- A suggestion for everyone: to help Ady when it comes to perusing our suggestions, highlight the suggestion so he can skim the message and see the main point quickly.
Also, have you thought of adding an underbelly docking bay to the Executor ala the regular Star Destroyers? I know that the underbelly opening we see could be accessible to fighter bays and the like, but at the same time it just looks like an opening (and a way for the Empire to save money by making the SSD look bigger than it really is).
Not that you would put it into EMPIRE or JEDI, but wouldn't it be cool to see a Star Destroyer leaving the underbelly docking bay of the Executor?
Also also, have you thought of adding more shadows (if needed) when the SDs and SSDs intermingle (didn't I learn about these in sex ed?) to help better give a sense of scale? For example: it is hard to tell just exactly where the three SDs around the Executor are as far as foreground, above and below or behind. I know this could get tricky in that it just may make things more complicated than what they're worth. Besides, I don't know what else you could do other than have the Executor shine a spotlight on the lower right SD or darken the lower 2 SDs to have them in the Executor's shadow (and now I've gone crosseyed). Again, not a biggie, just something to tinker with and think about.
Also also also, are you going to make the SD engines blue again? In ANH, they are blue, yet in EMPIRE (not sure about JEDI) they are white.
And you know, that could completely ruin the movie.
All these damn colors... maybe you should just color everything plaid...

It was never like this with ANH:R. People just accepted what Ady was planning to do, and went along with it (well, apart from the great flipper debate that is).
Now every other monkey wants it 'their way'.
Oh, how I miss the good ol' days of 2007.
It's the Trade Federation all over again.... :p
Hello people
I've been following this topic for a few months, even let a post (which no one obviously noticed but never mind :D), and I've got to say that for the people who read the post it's REALLY BORING that some continue to question Adywan's choices again and again, it's a real pain so there's something that should be done.
He explained his choices so what? (yes, I know, I don't come to give any ideas in the topic :-))
Thanks for your understanding
Good day to you.

The great flipper debate? What was that about? R2's arm on the Tantive IV?

I think it was about that aquala who had a flipper thing instead of a hand in that close-up of his severed arm, after Obi-Wan dealt with him.
In my opinion if people want green lasers and different coloured ships then go off and do your own versions but leave Adywan alone to do what he wants with his.

whats the point of this thread then?
if you can't talk about things you want changed, or fixed,
what would you prefer? just tell everyone to look at this
thread: (which is buried 3 pages back)...

or this one:

i like ALL the arguments / discussions / etc... it's very entertaining...
it's nice to get away from the technical only stuff once in awhile..
if adywan locked this thread, and said he didn't want to hear any more
suggestions, and said that when its done, its done.. and you don't
get any more updates, clips, or have any idea what changes went on..
would you prefer that instead?????????
ok, now get back to arguing about green lasers, blue tie fighters, etc...
or if you have some better ideas, why dont' people bring up something
that HASN'T BEEN TALKED about already, and then maybe the older
discussions you find so boring would go away..

Good point, negativeone.
It was never like this with ANH:R. People just accepted what Ady was planning to do, and went along with it (well, apart from the great flipper debate that is).
No offense, Hotrod, but if adywan had wanted that (and I know you don't speak for him), he should NOT have come to the forums and opened a feedback topic for his edits.
He should have just ignore the forums, and released it. No fuss, no muss.
Rather, he ASKED for feedback and took an INTEREST in what people were saying about this. Otherwise, why bother... it's not as if 99.99999% of the people here are doing jack squat to help him with his edit (apart, from I guess the people who sent him money to buy new hardware).
So it's his fault, for asking, and he should take the "good" (praise) with the "bad" (questioning, criticism).
And Bewy you wrote:

THEN STOP READING IT? The point of this thread isn't to entertain you personally, it's to discuss and give feedback on this fan edit that Adywan is working on. And I beg your pardon if your post was directed at me (since I'm the just latest person to question one of adywan's decisions, which there's no rule against), but I'm not just questioning his choices "again and again," I'm giving reasons for why I think there's a better way than what he's said he's going do to.
To another person, if the point is that it's just his edit and leave him alone, then there's no point in discussing it at all. He should NOT explain why he's doing something, just do it. Instead, it seems he genuinely wants to justify to the public, why he's doing this or that. Again, if he didn't want anyone to express disagreement, all he had to do would be to just keep it "secret" until release time and then just put it out there, take it or leave it (like Lucas did with his Special Editions).
Adywan himself doesn't have to listen to anything anyone says here, or he can listen to it and not do what people say, or (as in the case of the "great flipper debate") he can change his mind and come up with a NEW solution that ends up being even better than either his original plan OR what "people wanted."
Just think, if nobody had said jack squat, he'd have had that first painted flipper in ANH:R right now. I personally think the severed human hand (his own hand) looks fantastic! So the "Great Flipper Debate" had a positive outcome, which probably wouldn't have happened if we'd all followed the mantra of "don't criticise or question, don't tell him what to do, it's his edit, blah blah blah."
I've seen projects END because the person creating it was doing it purely for fame and praise, and when the "heat" got to him from people making requests or not agreeing with him, he pulled the plug and went away sulking. I think because of that fact, some people are scared that Adywan will do that, unless they're super nice to him and agree with everything he says.
But we've already seen PROOF that ady is NOT one of those types of people. He went through how many years of feedback with ANH? And he released it! He's still here. And unless tragedy strikes, he's going to be doing ROTJ:R in 2011-12!
So please, don't be afraid to make a suggestion or criticism, because you fear that he'll quit, or that it'll "delay the project" while he argues with someone. These projects take years to complete, so his interacting with us isn't going to signifcantly slow him down. If anything, he should have ignored us, because we've pointed out stuff that he now wants to tinker with, that he might not have, had he not talked to us! So all our suggestions (even the good ones) are slowing down the project! Relax.
If you can't handle the "drama," log off and come back this time next year to download it and be surprised. ;)
I don't have a problem with Adywan, just the people who think we should refrain from posting, for fear of offending him and jeopardizing the project.
There's a difference, Kurgan, between constructively offering suggestions, ideas and criticism, and repeatedly trolling with the same argument after Adywan has made his decision.
I GIVE UP!!!!
Kurgan, you are a two-faced asshole. First you come in here forcing your "blue TIE" argument until everyone gets up your ass about it, NOW all of a sudden you're defending Ady's decisions to do what he wants in the first place?
MAKE UP YOUR FUCKING MIND!!!!
Jezuz-Tap-Dancing-Christ! You gotta find a way to be right no matter which side of the discussion you're on!
Pick a FUCKING SIDE and STICK WITH IT! If you wanna be an asshole, be an asshole. If you want to sit back and have fun, sit back and have fun. But DON'T keep switching back and forth depending on which way you see everyone else going at the moment.
My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.
Part of me just wants to keep out of this completely, and not say anything, but I do enjoy taking part in this forum, even if I am quiet much of the time, and I try my best to keep up with it, even if I do fall behind now and then. I just can't believe the harsh criticisms and language going back and forth here lately. I have been following the whole Kurgan blue-Tie_Fighter debate, and although I may not agree with his tactics, I also do not agree with how it has been handled, and I do agree with much of what he said in his above post. This is indeed an open forum, which Adywan has allowed us to use to share and bounce ideas off each other, because it is obvious that Adywan is interested in hearing our ideas and feedback. Of course, in the end, it is Adywan's edit, and I'm pretty sure we are all confident that he will again astound us with his next chapter in the Revisited saga. But that doesn't mean that we can't voice our concerns and opinions about the ideas being brought up in here. I, like many others here, have ideas which would be nice to see Adywan take into consideration. And what isn't a big deal to one person might be very important to somebody else. If Adywan states matter-of-factly that a certain idea will not come to fruition, then so be it, and once that has been said, I don't think it is wise to continue to badger him about it. It is his project. But if somebody here in the forum wants to diplomatically discuss certain ideas with other members of the forum, I don't think it is right that anybody should verbally attack members just because they are tired of hearing about it.
Now, again, it was obvious that Kurgan was starting to get on Adywans nerves, and there's a point when it should stop. But please try to remember that we are all fans of not only the original trilogy, but especially Adywan's treatment of it, and I am rather turned off lately at the hostility being displayed here. We are all here for the same thing, people. There are lots of newcomers lately, and they may not yet have a feel for when "enough is enough", as some of the senior members do. I hope everybody here remembers that the next time they see a post they don't like. There are obviously times when something is so negative, and so un-called for, that somebody should say something. But the angry, snappy, profanity-laden posts that have been appearing here lately is not being constructive in the least. This project is still over a year away. There's PLENTY of time to spend discussing all kinds of little details and big details, and if something drags on a bit longer than some would like, ignore it, and it will go away soon enough. Let's all try to keep this forum a friendly and welcoming place for all.
This thread is finnaly getting fun! :D
I for one will take whatever Ady gives us because I dont have the talent to do something like this myself. I'm just appreciative of his time and effort, and accept his vision of how EPV looks.
Looking forward to the finished project very much!
Flan
Well I was here to read your ideas and perhaps find and give some, but Kurgan is too fucking aggressive so damn him,you DO keep busting Ady's ba*** by questioning (yes, questioning) again and angain (yes I do think so) his choice of grey Ties. There's a difference between busting people's balls and defending one's point of view.
Bye and good continuation
Okay. I haven't posted in like 4 months but I'm not new here. You people need to take a chill pill for the sake of all that is holy.
Anyway, trying to move the topic elsewhere, I too got shot down a long time ago about a clip I posted. I personally LOVE the clip I put together and Ady didn't. Ce' la vive. I moved on. My intention is to wait until his edit comes out and then edit THAT for myself. This isn't Ady's movie, its his EDIT. We all can jump on the bandwagon and clip clip clip away until our heart's content. (I'll let him do the hard part of color correcting though). I've already done a few modifications to ANH:R and I'll do it again to ESB:R because I like certain things that others do not.
Anyway, here's my clip from a long time ago that a lot of you new guys haven't seen. PLEASE..... TURN YOUR SOUND DOWN!!!! I didn't edit the audio because my computer has a F'd up virus and won't let me! It ruins the whole idea if you don't TURN DOWN THOSE SPEAKERS. Let me know what you guys think. I think it solves the whole 2 probes or 1 probe different timeframe issue.

EDIT: I'm throwing this one in for shits and giggles too. I did this this morning just to see what I could come up with. Just for fun and nothing else. Hence the differences of what's out the window of the Star Destroyers and whatnot. The different quality between Ady's ANH:R and the GOUT sticks out like a sore thumb. Remember....TURN OFF THE SOUND or it REALLY REALLY sucks balls.

^I like that a lot! The sequence of events is quite good. You can take the difference in timing to be the probe droid's pod opening and such.
I thought it played very well, DarthStewie. The sequence definitely works, imo. The only thing I found a bit jarring is the new transition from the atmosphere to the surface of Hoth. Though it looks really good, somehow it seems out of place, perhaps because I'm not used to seeing a transition within the very first moments of a Star Wars film. Love how the probe droid shows itself after Luke is dragged away by the Wampa.
Oldfan: I didn't have much choice there really. It was that or a completely jarring cut to the surface and that was worse. Gotta work with what ya got y'know.

Interesting choice, but I think the mysterious feel of the opening sequence is spoiled somewhat by the immediate introduction of Luke. To leave the audience hanging, if only for a moment, works I think.
Also, here's something I brought up a while ago. C-3P0 chattering away during the carbonite scene. It's always bothered me. First of all, he's chastising poor old Chewbacca excessively whilst far more important things are happening around him and he then (rather redundantly, considering we've been told as much by Boba, Vader and Lando) explains that Han will be well protected if he survived the freezing process. His chirpiness is in-character and humorous in other scenes, but here it's just distracting. I'd much rather soak up the emotional severity of this moment than have it ineffectually narrated by 3P0.
That's just about the only thing I'd personally change in Empire apart from some visual alterations.

That's the thing, if 3PO is on and in a scene, its out of character for him not to talk, which is why they shut him down for important scenes that he is in, so he's not jabbering during Obi-Wan's speech to Luke in his hut and commenting on Bespin as a refuge choice. Unless we add something that makes it obvious that he is off, he needs to be talking or it will be out of character.

Well, personally I think the good of that particular scene overrides the need to be to-the-number on the resident protocol droid.
In any case, it's not like 3P0 is exactly as chatty when they discover the crashed speeder in ROTJ. In fact, all he says is "Oh, master Luke...", pauses and only speaks again to inform them that R2 cannot detect Leia. So it's not like 3P0 can't recognise a distressing moment when it's starring him in the face, even if he's not exactly tactful. But, hey, I can definitely see your point...
I wouldn't take any lines away from 3po.
