Possible Star Wars Holiday Special screening in NYC!

Author
Time

I voted for A Charlie Brown Christmas, its my favorite! ;)

Hmm, looks like our boy is kind of low in the polls at the moment. Bing Crosby looks like he's got this one by a landslide...

This is something. Surely they would not be offering to show this, if they did not have a master. Unless they just assume that it will never win, and don't realize that if it does win it will be impossible to get. Could have just been all the staff coming up with every Christmas special they could think of. Doesn't sound very professional to do something like that though.

Let's assume they do have it, and enough of us vote for it that it wins, where does that get us? Other than a chance for those who live in New York to see this one time on the big screen, preservation wise, where does it get us? I guess somebody could do a cam of this?

If we find out for sure that they do have it, I propose a bunch of us meet in New York, map at the Paley Center, and make elaborate plans for an infiltrate and snatch operation... okay kidding, kidding!

The rankings are above the titles - Charlie Brown is winning.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

The top five specials with the most votes will be screened at the Paley Center in New York and Los Angeles between December 10 and 24, 2008.

That is what it says on that site.  So  Unless the holiday special can win the bottom 5th spot i doubt it will be shown.  And if by some miracle it does they will get a c&d from Lucasfilm or Lucasfilm confiscates the print and has it destroyed.  If lucas does not allow screenings of the original versions of the star wars trilogy you can well believe he won't allow a showing of this.

Besides it is up against charlie brown, rudolph, santa claus is coming to town, the grinch who stole christmas cartoon, frosty the snowman.

All those rank and bass cartoons are considered classics.  I even have a soft spot for the God awful garfield christmas.

Asking for a screening of the holiday special is like asking for a screening of howard the duck, the world should be spared such an abomination.  Next you will want a screening of more american graffiti.

I'll get behind a petition to have the 1977 star wars screened, but the holiday special is the worst moment in star wars history.  Far worse than the special editions or prequels, worse than ewoks or droids or ewok tv films, worse than 2008 clone wars.

The only good part was the nelvana cartoon and even that looks cheasy and dated.

Lumpy is almost as bad as jar jar binks, the whole special looks like everybody but harrison was high on drugs.  and princess leia singing the life day song, horrible.  This was before the days of jar jar the worst thing next to Jaxxon the Jedi bunny.

The HS exists on videotape, not film. There is no "print".

At least Howard has a decent chance of being released in the US, as it's out in Europe.

Jaxxon was a smuggler/mercenary much like Han. Not a Jedi. And the fact Lucas allegedly hates Jaxxon makes me happy! ;)

i like how people retroactively look back at things and hate them..

i've never seen the special until a couple of years ago, and

thought is was fun and cheesy.. i certainly don't 'HATE' it..

i'm sure if i had known about it when it originally aired,

i would have been really looking forward to it....

obviously they wanted a tv tie in boost ratings, and have

something for people to watch during the holidays, so why not?

maybe now people think its so bad, that its good (kinda like 'plan 9',

'battlefield earth', and other cult classics)...

i'm sure kids nowadays would be bored by some of it,

but is it any worse than the ewoks or droids movies/cartoons/shows?????..

(which i STILL haven't watched yet...but am planning too)

I just couldn't bring myself to vote for the SWHS - LOL!

I voted for John Denver & The Muppets.

Paley Center would never get a C&D from Lucasfilm.  If they have a copy of it, it's probably because they own it from CBS.  They're extremely well-respected.

Can you vote multiple times? If you can, if we each spend every waking second voting and refreshing from now till the end of this thing, I bet we could sway it.

I live nowhere near New York, but how awesome would it be to subject many people to this horrible thing, and add to the histroy books the fact that this thing was screened in 2008 for the first time since it aired on television. Will be the greatest thing to happen to the HS since rifftrax.

Can you check the results now?

I vote for "Imperials who stole the X-mas Special"

I saw the original theatrical release of the Old Trilogy on the big screen and I'm proud of it...
How did I accomplish that (considering my age) is my secret...

Wow.  It's at 89% right now.

It was just posted to the force.net.  I'm sure people are going to vote now.

I've been able to vote multiple times.....

Merry Christmas, Mr. Lucas  ;-)

I'd like to see the John Denver & Muppets special be in the top 5 too. That was a great show.

Wow, never under estimate Star Wars fans in large numbers.

Gotta keep it up there! As long as it gets within the top five... as much as I hate the HS, for some reason I can't help but be slightly disappointed I wont be in New York during that time.

Never underestimate even a single SW fan... gee, people, do I need to tell you explicitly that it took ~60 clicks? Darn, this poll script is really lame...

So if you want it to stay up, keep visiting that page... and keep clickin' till they ban your IP :D

Yesterday I clicked it more than ten times and the numbers never changed.

Hmm, I wish it was because of many fans voting. I am afriad they will realize that a bunch of people who wont even be able to see what is being screened have been screwing the numbers by voting like mad. If they catch on, they will likely kick it out, as the point of this is to screen what the most people would like to come and watch.

If this thing does win, I foresee Lucas sending thugs in wookie costumes to rearange the place, and make the tape disappear. Once it is returned to his possession, he can pull out the old hammer ;)

why does this mean they have a master?

can't they just pull out an old copy of it?

and why would Lucas care? there's another screening of

it going on for charity somewhere else (bowling alley)..

why would this be any different?

You clearly don't know anything about the Paley Center or what it stands for.

information..

You're right. My guess is they will just use one of the many bootleg VHS copies that are floating around out there. The quality on that thing is plenty good, ought to look just find on a big screen...
