Wait a fucking second are you telling me they did not even bother re-Hiring Darren Dochterman back to redo the effects in 1080p, wtf.

I also heard they did not even bother doing any full restorations of the movies.

They had Lowry do partial restorations on only Star Trek IV and VIII First Contact.

So they probably did not even bother going back to the negatives.  Same film prints with all the dirt, and problems.  You could already get these in 720p from the microsoft online service a while back.  Yes they look stunning when compared against their dvd counterparts, especially II wrath of khan.  But the higher the resolution the more noticeable the flaws.

I personally would rather have a little dirt and all the real film grain rather than having them all digitally scrubbed by Lowrys algorithm which has ruined so many films in the past.  Also i hope to god they did not do DVNR.

Hopefully this means we get the Theatrical Star Trek II without the re added back in scenes, or the utterly rediculous Redo of VI with the scooby doo reveal.  I am kind of torn on what earlier version of VI i want though,  because i want the theatrical without the major west revealed as disguised as a Klingon.  and The other added home video scenes.  But i would also like to see that cut as well.  The only version i hate is meyers third cut.

Sound to me they are going the bare bones route when they could release all the tv cuts of the films, theatrical cuts and directors cuts.  And they could have done all new versions with redone new age special effects for those who wanted them.  The films that had a low budget like II that used unused trims of the motion picture could finally get a full budget for special effects.  The film desperetely needing to be recut and reditted from scratch and could use better special effects is V.

This would not be the same as pulling a lucas because the older cuts would also be restored to the same state as the new updated versions.  My example would be the ridley scott blade runner boxset with 5 versions of the film in 1080p.   Still in the case of scott i find it a bit sad that only the final cut got the 4K remaster.  as I like the theatrical cut and the international cut (criterion) better.
